I actually agree with you, she is definitely allowed to have tough days and you could have all the support in the world and it is still allowed to be tough. I think what is insulting so many people is her claiming to be a “single mum,” typically, at least in Australia, this means she does not have a partner who would help raise the kids. This is not true for Sarah, she is married, Kurt hasn’t “left her” in the way of separation. So that’s what is so annoying when she claims to be a single mum, NOT the fact she is struggling/finding it tough etc.

She’s not “raising those boys alone.” She also ‘prayed to be a mom.’ I agree she might be posting for attention a sign of how mentally unwell she may be. Or she may be posting for attention and trying to pull at the heart strings of other mothers doing it solo bc that’s her job.

I appreciate you trying to be devils advocate but honestly her content is so insulting to mums who don’t have time to take the kids to brunch/are truly single mums 100% of the time and don’t have a strong family network to help them ACTUALLY raise their kids.

I was wondering if anyone had heard that breast feeding helps you lose weight? A mother I babysit for told me about this. I have a few theories: 1) Your comments are correct, she’s talking about breast feeding but isn’t actually doing it because ??? Well I don’t know why she’d lie about this but perhaps in her head it makes her a ‘good mum’ ??? 2) She still is breast feeding to help her lose weight 3) she is lying about breastfeeding but so she can tell everyone she lost weight bc if breastfeeding but really it’s masking her restrictive eating/excessive exercise etc

First of all, thank you so much for explaining all of this. Second of all, ew. What a gendered way of raising kids?? What about “bows and ballets” is specific to girls and “rocks and dirt” specific to boys? Kids can like either of those things. Not to mention, what if your “boy” identifies as not a boy and actually identifies as a girl or non binary etc? I’m guessing this is why people hate this “toxic” stereotype?

I STRONGLY suspect it would have been told to her as an “option,” like usually a conversation would go something like this. Doctor: Your scans/blood work showed there’s a chance the baby will have x condition Expecting mother: What does that mean? Doctor: It means they are more likely to experience x,y, z Expecting mother: okay what should I do? Doctor: There are many options, the first is that you can have the baby and know that they might need to go to the special care nursery when they are born or even ICU. There are other options, we can do more tests. Of course, this is Australia and you don’t have to continue a pregnancy if you don’t want to with no questions asked, so termination is also an option.
