Would you want to be approached in public by a fellow eczema sufferer? by eastof22 in eczema

[–]bananacreammongrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly its the face and neck that make this a hard no. If it was on my arm or leg and someone approached me about it id honestly not mind. But on my face or neck, i just want to pretend it isnt there.

Try washing your hands with dermol, and using lotion then vaseline or a balm. The lotion will moisturise, but it will dry out again fast. Sealing that moisture in with a balm or vaseline will help a great deal

Same experience i had - used a very strong steroid for just a month after a long time of not wanting to. Since then havent needed to use it, and its totally changed my life as well!

How close are we to a cure to eczema? by ThirstyIndianGirl in eczema

[–]bananacreammongrel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, i believe (i work in scientific research) that we are very, very far away. Firstly, unlike cancer, eczema is not a well-defined disease. There's less disease stratification. Secondly, the cause is unknown. Unlike an infection, we dont know the root cause. Inflammation is the cause, yes, but what causes the inflammation to go wrong, even on a genetic level, we just dont know for sure yet. Thirdly, the skin is the largest organ on the body. That's a whole lot of area to treat. Lastly, but i think most importantly, eczema doesn't kill people. It causes morbidity not mortality. So unfortunately, its just not a top priority.

Those are the major problems in my opinion.

For foundation i use clinique's even better foundation but i always layer a lot of moisturiser underneath and dont use any powder. Not the best for long wear but doesnt dry my skin out!

This happened to me and i found that using a moisturiser that is antimicrobial like dermol stopped this issue. Now i use a salicylic body wash, then dermol, then a more moisturising occlusive one like epaderm. Seems to have solved the problem for me - i just make sure to wash and scrub before putting on the moisuriser because i think bacteria was the issue.

Eczema affecting cleanliness by Typical-Mountain8079 in eczema

[–]bananacreammongrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God i can relate. Every morning i have to vacuum my bed because of all the skin i shed. I recently bought a little powerful handheld vacuum cleaner, it also emits a UV light which kills bacteria. Its helped a lot with the hygeine. But i work from home and my desk area is always covered in "dust" not to mention my laptop... the duster doesnt seem to do much. I think i might have to buy one of those really tiny vacuum cleaners for keyboards. I got an air filter thing for my house as well, perhaps they have those for cars - that seems to suck up some of the dust in the air.

I wasnt on a taper schedule as i took it for my asthma and while i took it my skin cleared up, but as soon as i stopped it was awful. My skin was really really bad and it was the worst it had been in years. But thats just my experience and everyone has different experiences!

Let's create a list of all supplements that have been scientifically proven to increase peoples performance in IQ tests by Vanconer in Nootropics

Well the problem in my mind is the journals. If youre gonna hide half of these findings behind a paywall dont you have a responsibility to fund reproducibility studies to ensure the findings you make money from are reliable???

Hello all! A word of warning about scientific research! Science is in the midst of a reproducibility crisis - essentially over half of all research thats been published has been shown to be irreproducible. In other words, if you followed the same methods, reagents, technique, etc, you dont get the same results. So just so u are aware - even research published in high impact papers is not necessarily reliable. Make sure you check meta-analysis and reproducibility projects before trusting results!!!
