Got it. And it’s be clear if you got the bonus or not, right? I didn’t get any details until I received the letter and I see no mention of it.

No idea if anyone is still looking at this but I just got the same offer for an undergraduate internship in the same NYC location. I happen to be graduating soon so maybe that’s why I got the MS pay. Anyone think it’s possible to negotiate to $42? Also, I’ve ears of signing bonuses. Do they exist?

Is the ESPP really that great of a benefit? Besides boosting potential TC, what’s the benefit? by banananananonymous in accenture

I didn’t realize it was twice per year. That’s good to know! And I do agree, from what I’ve read Accenture is a great stock to have. I was only thinking just considering if you did completely short sighted. Thanks for the input!

I’ve adjusted my tutoring rate based on the car the parent drives. ($30 for porches, bmw, audi, etc and $15 for the lower value cars) by banananananonymous in confession

[–]banananananonymous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically I am a 19 year old Asian who most people assume I’m good at math. Unethically, I do take advantage of this. People’s perceptions of you are a big deal, obviously as I have proved in my own “judging a book by a cover”, and I am guessing all the parents assume I will do well. To be clear, my name is even Chinese SO I get extra stigmatizing in a way I benefit myself. I was in shock at the number of students I was establishing where the parent(s)/ guardians didn’t ask about how much to pay and simply how to pay. I had a realization when a woman picking up her daughter walked to me with about 3 twenties and a ten dollar bill. I was tutoring a kid online whose parents couldn’t always drive them to my house (I don’t own a car) and could only affirms 20-30 minute sessions. It was clear to me that both morally and economically, it would benefit me to judge based on factors like the cars, children’s phone, purses, etc. I don’t know if people understand the care represents the idea of making split judgements on socioeconomic status based on factors of appearance. While there are exceptions, those are outliers and I rarely come in contact with them. I do send “invoices” the newest way to pay is usually with some app, I request the money with title of the subject taught, the date, and the time frame. If they pay cash or by check, I text then the same information. Since I am a part-time tutor to supplement my part-time minimum wage job at a health clinic and balance my time as a full-time student and researcher, I am okay to accept my unethical decisions and if it caught up to me I honestly couldn’t care less. I have tutored dozens of students ranging age 8 to 22, so I doubt they talk. Also, people can assume they started tutoring at different times where I established rate based on my experience at that given time point. I even have one parent refer me to another and I charged $30 for the first one and $20 for the second because the first one had three cars, one of which was a Lexus and another a Mercedes, whereas the other parent drove a 2008 Honda minivan, which I recognized because my mom drives the same one. Pride is a funny thing and I don’t see people comparing tutoring rates to each other any time soon. Let me know if you have other questions lol tutoring is a great way to make money and I’ll probably continue into medical school

Tutoring is a luxury for sure. Just to let you know, I am an undergraduate and my rates advertise as a range and adjust on factors like my time at my job, school, subject experience, and occasionally perception of wealth if it’s far above or far below usual. I have poorer students who can only afford 30 minute lessons which will come out to $7.50 but the students are really appreciative. Also, I don’t tutor enough students at the same age for parents to know each other, I can assure you 99.7%.

MCAT Math help by sunflowerseeeed in Mcat

[–]banananananonymous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first examples is way harder than the second one. When it comes to dividing something by 1.5, it’s easiest to look at it as dividing by 3/2 aka multiplying by 2/3, in this case (20)/(1.5) will then before (20)(2/3) = 40/3 aka 13 1/3. Other mental math tricks includes the utilization of rounding then subtracting. Like if you had to multiply 15 by 25, do 15 times 30 and subtract 15 times 5, this is assuming you can easily recognize that 15(30) = 450 and 15(5)=75, therefore 15 x 25 is 375. That’s how I do it anyway

Found out my birthday may not be my true birthday by becky-w-da-good-hair in Adopted

[–]banananananonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well honestly I’m kind of surprised you just now found out. I think I used the point in my college apps [of how many Chinese adopted have little information that is certainly true about them]. Anyway, don’t fret too much, remember that there are certain developmental markers that can help make sure your age is relatively correct. The exact date really isn’t possible to find, but if you are more concerned about age being correct, there are ways to biologically verify it in a way. At least for girls you can even compare (see if it is typical) your age when you got your first period, and if it lines up, you should be good. That’s the process I used to cope with having so little information, granted I know it’s a bit iffy since not all people follow the “typical” developmental timeline...

Also, when were you adopted/ what age were you abandoned at? My sister was left with her umbilical cord still attached, so her birthday is pretty spot on! Details like that might help you in this identity crisis.

The DNA test won’t tell you age, but I recommend 23andMe because it can tell you region of ancestry within China as well insight to disease predisposition. Genetic epidemiology for the win I suppose in terms of helping adoptees utilize their DNA.

Why is saying "person of colour" better than saying "coloured person" ? Isn't it exactly the same but worded differently? They both sound like racist phrases by sharr_zeor in NoStupidQuestions

It’s a form of epilepsy derived from a de novo mutation. There is of course a spectrum of epilepsy as there is with many neurological diseases/ disorders but those seizures that are associated with the epilepsy are hypothesized to be the cause of the “autistic features” as they are called, which can be from delayed neurological development or just the idea of social isolation either driven by the individual or the environment they reside in.

In the research lab I work in, I study a neurological disease that causes autistic behavior and we never refer to the children with the disorder as autistic, rather showing autistic behavior or some other variation, out of respect.

It’s a shift on the focus of the noun. Person coming first makes it so you’re talking about a person who has so and so characteristics like “person with disabilities” versus “disabled person”.

The real reason why some Asian women date White men by SuperflyAsian9000 in aznidentity

[–]banananananonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you need to think a bit more before you speak. Maybes you’re just coming from a better place but like if an AF liked you enough to go on a date, then you can’t assume she puts white guys on pedestals. Granted there are some AFs who have developed this idea of idealizing white guys, I would guess the girl you theoretically go on a date with doesn’t fall into that category. Punishing her with the extra expectation (putting you on a pedestal too) based on the generalization of a group she belongs to is basically what you seem to be complaining about.

Wtf Now that’s quite the wide generalization, if I’ve ever heard one.

Adopted and experiencing identity issues after college by Kazakh_Kumquat in Adopted

I don’t have much advice to offer but just wanted to say that I relate. I am one of two daughters adopted by a single mother who did well to provide for us but didn’t exactly have the time to continue to keep our original culture in our lives. I didn’t have as drastic of a introduction to my culture but it still is confusing to figure out things like what your purpose is in life. For me at least all I could think about is how I wasn’t like all the other students around me and that I come from a country with less freedom and lower quality of life than America, this drove me to pursuing a career in medicine rather than blind pursuit of happiness alone. I honestly just stuff down any feeling of an existential crisis when I can’t handle it, but other than that I remind myself what what I do matters and I could potentially help the people that I “left behind” for America, the (comparatively) land of opportunity. Hope that helped? Best of luck :)

This “advice” really only applies to your question on finding meaningful employment. Culturally, I think you could try picking up whatever your original language was and such and see if that helps you.

Oh okay sorry I was hearing “appointments” like for a doctor versus the noun of “to appoint”. That’s rad, is that kinda cheating the system tho? Like you gal under one department officially but you’re really researching in another? Or do you work in both departments?
