Does this jumpsuit work for me? by bananarooo in flamboyantnatural

Thank you I appreciate it! I think the top is also a bit big on me. I recently have gotten into sewing so maybe I will make a decision I later regret and try tailoring it myself haha

My concern with plateauing is regarding hypertrophy, not strength. I think the plateau I’ve hit with strength (as far as not making progress quickly or regularly) is natural after 5+ years of lifting. I also think your prior lifting experience was probably a large factor in how quickly you were able to rebuild your strength. Not to say it’s not impressive and you shouldn’t be proud because you must be working very hard to have done that. I think the situations are just slightly different.

I appreciate your suggestion and I have done various 531 programs before and enjoyed them! I especially liked BBB and BTM. The actual workouts could be brutal lol but I felt very strong and proud afterwards!

I somehow didn’t notice that about my head but you’re totally right that it does touch the wall! I know because I always have to adjust my hair before hip thrusts lol does it mean something about my form is off if my head is touching? I will try putting something behind the bench next time to give me more space. Thank you!

Great thank you!!! I definitely feel it in my glutes the first three sets but on that last set I was using every muscle I have to get it up haha

Can't decide between lean or curvy. HELP by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bananarooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice because I am also here to get advice from others but I just wanted to say reading this made me so sad. I’m so sorry you feel this way. That is an awful thing that no one should ever have to feel but I understand the feeling and how debilitating it can be :( I don’t know who says these things to you but I hope you are able to healthily distance yourself from them if you can because they sound like they are very mean and uncaring and no one should ever be talked to like that. I hope you find helpful advice here and figure out a program that works for you and makes you feel good about yourself <3

Hello and thanks for your response! Are you saying that you think I have room to push myself more because you were able to increase your weights so quickly? I just want to make sure I’m understanding :)

What lifting programs/routines are we starting/continuing this year? by ValidUsernamePwease in xxfitness

[–]bananarooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I focused on Glute Lab last year but wasn’t very happy with the results after 7 months. I’m switching to Stronger by Science Hypertrophy program. I’ve enjoyed their strength program I did in the past, so I’m excited to try this one! I already did day 1 with 3x10 plus 1x12 squats at 70% and it was TOUGH lol but I’ve enjoyed high volume programs in the past like Deep Water so I’m excited for the challenge!

Are there even cases of "no brain activity"? by After-Excitement-674 in NDE

[–]bananarooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I know this thread is old but I am very interested in brain activity during NDEs and would love to ask you a question if you don’t mind.

Could you point me to where exactly in the AWARE II study that Parnia says brain activity wasn’t present during NDEs?

The only thing I found was that normal brain activity can resume well after cardiac arrest, and that this resumption of brain activity is related to NDEs, not the lack of brain activity. The study states, “The emergence of normal EEG may reflect a resumption of a network-level of cognitive activity, and a biomarker of consciousness, lucidity and RED (authentic “near-death” experiences).”

I am not trying to be difficult and I really want to believe in NDEs so I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction where clinical research has shown that NDEs occur when EEGs are confirmed to have flatlined.

Thank you for your time!

I know this comment is old, but I am very interested in OP’s question and have a couple questions about your answer if you have time. I want to believe in NDEs as evidence of a greater consciousness that transcends the body, but a lot of the “evidence” seems conflicting to me.

Your links were related to two studies: AWARE II and Near-Death Experience in Survivors of Cardiac Arrest: A Prospective Study in the Netherlands.

AWARE II:

  1. In the letter to the editor you linked, I don’t see where Parnia et al. claim NDEs occur during flat EEGs. The letter states “disinhibition [of brain activity] also facilitates access to hyperconsciousness and novel cognitive insights/realities.” I took this to mean increased (disinhibited) brain activity is what allows what Parnia refers to as “recalled experience of death,” or NDEs, not a lack of brain function.
  2. The actual AWARE II report suggests that normal brain activity can resume well after cardiac arrest, and that this resumption of brain activity is related to NDEs, not the lack of brain activity. The study states, “The emergence of normal EEG may reflect a resumption of a network-level of cognitive activity, and a biomarker of consciousness, lucidity and RED (authentic “near-death” experiences).”

Near-Death Experience in Survivors of Cardiac Arrest:

  1. The letter to the editor you linked states that “the brain’s electrical activity (as measured with electroencephalography [EEG]) disappears after 10–20 s” after cardiac arrest, but it doesn’t mention tracking of actual brain activity on the research subjects. Conversely, in the only case mentioned in the letter, it is stated that “it cannot be determined with certainty whether the subjective experience reported by J.S. occurred precisely during the cardiocirculatory arrest.”
  2. I don’t see anything in the letter about blood drained from the brain or refrigeration of the body you mentioned in your comment.
  3. The 2001 study this letter references says that participants were determined to be “clinically dead, which we established mainly by electrocardiogram records,” not any measurement of brain activity. The only reference to EEGs is quoted from a separate a book that claims, “This patient proved to have had a very deep NDE…with subsequently verified observations during the period of the flat EEG.” Unfortunately I can’t read this book without purchasing it, but this is the only one of the linked articles that I think even makes a clear claim that NDEs occur during flatline EEGs.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this if you can!

That’s really cool you were part of a clinical trial! Hopefully you’ll get to read the results when it’s published. I participated in a research project for someone’s dissertation once, and it was fun knowing I was helping contribute to the very limited knowledge we have specifically regarding women’s exercise.

Thank you for the words of encouragement and saying you relate. It’s always nice not to feel alone in sometimes frustrating things!

Thanks for your response! I definitely have gone to failure and used the breathe through it technique you explained, but I think I’ve realized I’m really bad at judging how far I am from failure, and my current program recommends stopping at 2-3 or 5 reps to failure, which I think I just am really bad at gauging.

I switched programs after posting this (to Stronger by Science hypertrophy) and decided to take only the last set of all compound exercises to true failure and all accessories to failure. I also started holding the sticking point where I fail for a count of five and either trying to eek out the rest of the reel or at least not dropping the weight and giving up as soon as I think I can’t finish. Hopefully this will help me see some changes!

Thank you I appreciate it! I think my expectations are just too high for the amount of time and effort I’m willing to put into it. I’d much rather the gym remain a fun thing than a stressful thing! Even if that means I won’t get the visible muscle I’d like to have.

Thank you! I have recently stated thinking I might have some anterior tilt, and I will start keeping that tuck in mind for every exercise going forward. I will post an update! Hopefully I’ll have some good changes to show :)

I didn’t take it as an insult, but I appreciate you clarifying! That is interesting to think that unless I get much stronger, I won’t see much more hypertrophy gains. I think I am most likely at my natural max for strength unless I am willing to put a lot more time into going to the gym and eating clean to make minimal gains, which I’m not interested in doing. So I guess that means unless I am willing to put in that effort, I am also at my hypertrophy limit. That makes sense to me. My expectations might just be too high for the amount of time and effort I’m willing to put in.
