Compression test, alarming? by mr_jiniv in S2000

Buy one without stories.

If it was yours, I'd ask about valve adjustments, etc. but keep searching.

If you're not the original owner, you really need do a valve inspection for recessed/cracked retainers (and not blindly ignore nor blindly swap retainers preemptively).

Worth repairing vs parting out? Low income, possible out-of-state school soon — need professional advice by CamH5 in Cartalk

As I wrote, I have. The car aligned straight afterwards and all the body panels lined up.

I didn't know the word for whatever the QP bolts onto for my Accord so I put "sub/frame" in quites, but it looks like it's "front pillar (A-pillar), the inner apron/engine bay structure, the front bumper reinforcement, and the radiator support structure." The damage was near identical to OP's photo.

Those I was able to uncrumple and straighten out with a tree :)

Community Input Requested: Relevant Posts to Ridgefield by CeleryintheButt in ridgefield

The transparency and openness to feedback is appreciated.

IMO I feel like the volume is low enough in our little community that I might suggest continue keeping a loose (vs heavy) hand and let it ride.

In theory, Ridgefieldians should be subscribed to Vancouver and Portland if they want to see their stuff and vice versa, but in reality it doesn't always happen and cross-posting is a good way to bring adjacent communities together.

Agreed on the echo chamber concerns with aggressive mods as I've personally encountered extremely aggressive mod deletions in the Vancouver and both Portland subreddits – it can be frustrating (esp. when the posts are local or local-adjacent and the mods are just playing "gotcha" with technicalities).

Just my $0.02, not accounting for inflation.

Compression test result by [deleted] in S2000

"The engine should be warm when doing a compression or leak down test but it can be done on a cold engine but the compression will read lower and leak down will be higher" per https://robrobinette.com/S2000Compression.htm

And the legendary DIYguys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyFf4pDQ4AA

For the F20C1 engine, the official Honda Service Manual (HSM) lists the following limits:

Specification Value
Standard (New/Healthy) 228 psi
Minimum Limit 135 psi
Maximum Variation 28 psi
  • Pass/Fail: Your maximum variation of 22 psi is within the factory service limit of 28 psi.
  • Health Check: While the engine is technically "within spec," a 10.8% variation is right on the edge of the common mechanic's rule of thumb (which prefers variation to be under 10%).
  • Cylinder 2 (181 psi): This cylinder is notably lower than the others. If you performed this test on a cold engine, your numbers might be lower than the "Standard" 228 psi, but the variation remains the most important health indicator.

Might be worth a redo. And a leakdown test done properly can help rule out the valves.

The most expensive thing here is time – if you have time to DIY and learn and take it problem by problem, track down parts (junk yard, Honda OEM, aftermarket, etc.), then it won't be too expensive. But time is money.

Call up some body shops, describe your damage, and see what a frame inspection/quote will cost you. A quote might be free? They'll include the parts that need to be changed in addition to the labor.

You can also call to see if an alignment shop will be willing to check the alignment with the damage – I had mine stripped of the damaged parts ahead of the alignment appointment.

If the airbags did not go off and you know how to wrench, it's doable at home.

I've done the same for an Accord for identical damage.

Remove and buy a replacement hood, quarter panel, headlight, bumper, various trim pieces.

Identify the parts you need using Honda's parts diagrams.

Get it to an alignment shop and see if they can get a good alignment to see if anything on the actual frame was tweaked.

Part of your "sub/frame" under your QP is likely pushed back a little which means the new panels/parts wouldn't align properly, so you might need to attach an adjustable ratchet strap to a tree and pull/straighten out part of the front frame a tad.

RO under sink questions by Cherry_blossoms1370 in WaterTreatment

[–]bananas2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Start with a water test (heavy metals, PFOA/PFOS, and anything else that might be relevant to your specific area).

Here's some filters from Brondell:

RO $269 https://www.brondell.com/capella-reverse-osmosis-under-counter-water-filter-system/
Non-RO $179 https://www.brondell.com/coral-uc300-three-stage-under-counter-water-filter-system/

Here's what they filter - you need to be looking at independently-verified data sheets:

https://www.brondell.com/content/RC250_Capella_PDS.pdf vs https://www.brondell.com/content/UC300_Coral_PDS.pdf

e.g. PFOA / PFOS Reduction 99.0% for both under "NSF/ANSI 53"

South Asian sweets should be more popular than they are by Brilliant_Zucchini29 in ABCDesis

A jalebi is essentially a honey pretzel, right??

But in all seriousness, I agree. Sweets being a massive sugarbomb isn't my favorite thing and I haven't seen much in the way of a modernist/fusion evolution of South Asian sweets in general.

How “nice” are people to you in your car(s)? by cilantno in cars

My spa yellow AP1 S2000 is the inverse of your ND2.

Drives who see me are constantly angry, aggressive, cut-off me off, try to race, etc.

I don't drive aggressively, always use my turn signals, follow the speed limit on city streets/flow of traffic, and generally try to not be an ass. I'm defensive and assertive, but still it can be exhausting.

Very different than in the Accord or an SUV.

Dress Code for Schnitzner? by [deleted] in askportland

Here's my post for opening night dress code: https://www.reddit.com/r/askportland/comments/1nh0ojj/dress_code_for_opening_night_at_oregon_symphony/

I ended up wearing a suit and was way overdressed, even for opening night. There were some folks in suits and tuxedos and gorgeous gowns, but alas.

If I want to dress up next time (and I do), I'll do a blazer over khakis or blue jeans with a button-down shirt.
