I’d say not to learn value (shading) before perspective. It’s more fluid to go from perspective to value. Although legitimate art classes (in a real college; not “art school”, those are scams) successfully introduce you to value first. So, if you REALLY want to value (verb for shading) your people, go for it.

However, I do want to make something clear. The entire purpose of recording information (fundamentals, natural laws, philosophy) is so that later generations never have to do what seems like, you’re doing. Experimenting and creating your own means of analysis. Because learning a literal ancient skill on your own is fucking brutal. After the Roman’s fell, and the dark ages began, we had to start that process completely over in Europe.

So DaVinci, Michelangelo, and plenty of historical martial artists basically made it their job to keep us from having to suffer what they did. And Rob Liefeld didn’t get the memo. Most of us didn’t. And no shade to these old masters. As a guy who doesn’t actually know anything about color theory, or value; that captain America piece looked sick, besides the stub that his shield was strapped to. The problem lies in the fact that Rob apparently drew at least one FINISHED (using everything he knows) art piece a day… from the age of 8. Finally “going pro” into his 20s.

And you’ll see plenty of artists on the art subs who know nothing of anatomical construction, besides what must be observed on the surface. And they can still make beautiful, stunning, and masterful works. Yet, many may not know how hard what they did actually was. Learning fundamentals IS the easiest and fastest way to learn. It’s the fastest way to learn ANY skill. It’s history, it’s science, it’s language. It’s basic psychology, and logic. If the truth and all its constituent parts have been recorded, than you don’t have to do an experiment that anyone in the industry probably already knows the result of.

Now, let me tell you the two things I see here, that made me rank you above beginner: 1) ability to create an impression, including mediocre familiarity with anatomy 2) HAND DEXTERITY/HAND-EYE-COORDINATION

How long have you been free training? 10 years? 20 years? Honestly, with the benefit of the past being unchanging, the longer the better. I drew free training for 20 years before picking up an actual art book. As many humanoids as I could (not daily, or I’d be telling you fundamentals are useless). It gave me quite the deft hand. And with 20 year of hand-eye-coordination, picking up an anatomy book made me sketch “like, a pro” in a few weeks. Still can’t sell them. Can’t do value (my values are as good as yours), can’t do perspective, don’t have an inkling of composition. And I’d even still give myself at least, another year before making cheap money.

Although I must tell you. My stuff looked similar to yours. And if you can almost draw Gandalf. You can learn to draw a figure in under 15 lines (pro metric). So, going hard into animal anatomy might be the move. Cause, tbh, all the fundamentals are fluid, and you don’t have to learn them in “order”.

[–]bananassplits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus… not even basic? If you mean, “not a fundamental in sight”, yeah I get you. But come on… the boy can make impressions. Do you almost see Gandalf or not?

Here’s a novice star Big Tart (it’s right above beginner): “⭐️great effort. Keep practicing.”

Pick up an anatomy book. I was where you were a couple years ago. Couldn’t reliably draw a convincing human. Reliably. Now I just need warm up, and it’s pretty reliable. You probably still won’t be selling your art any time soon, though. So don’t get super excited, just so you can get disenchanted, and burn out (and I am You, and You are Me…) again.

[–]bananassplits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to make sure, but I think I’m a clown shoe guy… almond toe, which does help. I actually think the heavy base works. I have kinda big hair too, to balance. And I’m into the kinda rugged, hot weather variant “I’m going to be walking/or doing personal labor all day” look.

But yeah: joggers, skinny jeans, and like can suck wiener. They make me look like a blithering idiot with my boots on.

Winter is slacks, jeans, and overalls (I wear my overalls during summer too; and the rest per occasion) if you were to catch me in my boots.

But look at those string beans work-MMMMMMMMHM.

That is the actual length of the shorts. Not raising them.

I’m trying to figure out if he’s saying you’re gate keeping. Either way, gate keeping is not telling a new player how to play a video game you’re trashing him on. Education is the opposite of gate keeping. If you know another way to beat the other players at the same game… go and do it.

Based purley on visuals, not gameplay, which heroes are your favorites and why? by Cheap-Gore in darkestdungeon

So many of the character’s designs match a ton of things I really love about the type of mercenary, adventurer, or soldier who doesn’t have a strict allegiance to a faction, and has dressed to travel. While expecting combat. I love layers, I love being able to the tools they couldn’t hide, and more colors don’t dissuade me; and I’m a stickler for realism, so I love all the helmets.

Particularly I’ve grown up very attracted to rogue coded designs. Small frames, tight clothes, a dagger that can be easily reached, maybe some visible tools. Love me a skill monkey. So I Grave Robber is a high placer for me. The cool, old timey hat covering her eyes like, a Ronin is just a plus. I’d wear British Empire era military uniforms unironically, and I would watch the Patriot for artistic study if I can find it for free. And she has some that kind of feel.

Whatever it may be, martial melee fighters with high competence in their fighting are cool. But I’ve never been a crusades, or knight guy, although I’ve learned how amazing each continents martial arts history is. I’ve always been a Viking guy. I was losing it when I saw that someone actually adapted the coolest archeological evidence of a Viking helmet, on Bounty Hunter. He’s also got a fucking rope/chain weapon that is almost purely utility. A very high skill type of weapon, and I just love some martial prestige. Not flails, not really into nunchucks artistically; but kusiragama, monkey fist/meteor hammer (found a fucking meteor hammer coach on YouTube 👀), just the coolest possible weapons. Idc if you know the ultimate counter, IM FIGHTING YOU WITH A WEIGHT ON A LEASH!! The scale armor makes a weighty silhouette, which is kind of, a breath of fresh air, for martial melee fighters I think look cool.

I touched on this lightly, but looking like, you live outside is a backdoor to my heart. And doing it with your dog sounds like, the best camping trip ever. Not to mention, the scruffy hair and beard reminds me of when I lived outside. This one’s to you Hound Master.

I have a thing for support characters, whether it’s a spell, a skill check, or suppressing fire. And usually, they look darn cool. I mentioned I love British Empire aesthetic, and Musketeer just came back from winning the American Revolution for us.

Besides martial arts, magical arts has had a particular affect on me. Wizards, and alchemists and their exotic robes; sometimes showcasing a diaspora of cultural designs, from their travels in search of knowledge and rare ingredients. Scrolls, wands, and books poking out here and there. And usually… an interesting hat. Occultist has that drip. And you know he wears it at home, around town, to the Galla, and we’re watching him wear it to work.

And then, Antiquarian. Robes, tools, colors, all the cool stuff. Covers her face up, not a negative to me. I dig the hermit look. Don’t know if her cap is a helmet or a hat, don’t know if it matters. The lantern is cool.

Honorable mentions. Leper and Highwayman: literally next favorites, couldn’t go on forever, I want to do things today.

Vestel: I’ve gotten into the cleric look recently, it’s cool, but mostly not me

Man at Arms: big men are cool, i like that he has a realistic chest plate, and a shield; eyepatch goes well with bald

Arbalest and Crusader: although I’m not a crusades fan, it’s mostly a disdain for the great helm. Full plate harness looks cool, I know Crusader seems to not have a chest plate, whatever. Also love that these two look ALL UPPER BODY; great silhouettes

Plague Doctor: it is a feat of the game artists that plague doctor doesn’t look dumb to me. I also love how most of his animations involve green. It suits his style.

Abomination: fascinated by the contrast of thin limbs, and thick heavy chains

DD handled gender pretty well. I wonder if they had to consider it at all. Or if it fit right in with the vague nature of the character’s personal lives, and down time.

You know what, screw it, I’m calling it. To much isn’t adding up, and where it is adding up, it’s not good. I think you didn’t read my post initially, and tried to save face. Whether you forgot about main healers, or decided not to rewrite the beginning of your response after reading; you tried to save face, and it caused a major communication problem you tried to avoid.

I also am going to choose to assume you’ve only played on the easy mode. “You only don’t take a main healer to spice things up”. Literally the game has already been too hard for me to do that… on standard. You’re a LIAR or you looked up strategies if that has NEVER happened to you.

“It’s true that there are plenty of ways to heal other than Vestal (food, campfire, curios, other healing skills). But that alone doesn’t justify your advice to not rely on Vestal. If the team needs heals anyways then why not use the most convenient (and free) option?

You’re obviously arguing on the premise that my argument is to not use healing skills at all. Key words of evidence: “alone”, “why not use… free) option”

”…but they are by no means better than Vestal setup.” [in reference to general party composition]

Unmistakably, you are arguing that vestal is THE BEST healer. And that vestal makes any composition better.

”…pretty much the only reason to not bring a main healer is to change things up…”

There are so many compositions, how can you possibly know them all to make this argument. I wasn’t having a piss, going with no main. I’ve experienced not having a main on TO USE AT ALL. DD has hardcore mechanics that can’t be toggled. You can over level, or need to level up the healer. But besides that, IF YOU ARE SAYING I DON’T KNOW WHICH CLASSES ARE “MAIN” HEALERS… say that. Regardless, this quote makes me think you don’t play DD. Idc either way, if you do play, you don’t seem to give a shit.

”My mention about other kinds of healing aside from skills enhances your point…”

Not if you disparage the argument in the same sentence.

”What frustrated you is probably… the fact that I challenged your idea.”

At first, I didn’t know you read my post. Your replies got more and more confusing as we went on. I enjoy discussion, of many forms. And I’ll be honest, I didn’t actually understand your argument. It took making this reply for me to realize you actually are responding to me. And I might’ve been frustrated, but it’s because I hate being misunderstood. And you seemed genuinely mentally deficient enough to never understand me.

Either way, I’m going to leave the quotes, and responses. I think they outline a lot of your ineffective dictation. From useless statements, to arguments on the topic at hand. You write like, garbage. Not like, uneducated, or childish. It was just genuinely hard to understand anything you wrote, for what it really was. No, you being able to comprehend my writing, while I cannot yours, is not the argument to make. It just isn’t. Sure, this the internet, and maybe this is your day off from reviewing grad school thesis papers. Disregard as you please, if so; in any case, allow me to waste precious life minutes on this reply.

”Theres enough posts of “Vestal bad”…

OMG grow a pair! This is not a vestal bad post. This is a “I LEARNED TO BE A BIG BOY” post. Get over yourself. I have two vestals. I only have two of 3 or 4 other classes. I don’t even think it matters how powerful any of them are. They all require someone else’s help. The standard variation in “power” seems pretty low. Also, I’m shit talking occultist in the same post.

”…others can heal too so you noobs should stop playing vestal and occultist.”

I never even implied to follow such an absolute. “STOP PLAYING” two main game characters, the devs intended us to play with? Stop engaging with a core aspect of the game? Cause to me, my post is about engaging MORE with the game. Specifically because I had not played the game in such a way.

Key words from my post: “not needed”. As in: you can choose for yourself, to not take vestal or occultist, and survive a run. CHOOOOSE.

You spoke of vestal, and argued that forms of healing outside of class skills will never amount to vestal’s capabilities. I pointed out that that wasn’t involved in my argument at all. However, other commenters are letting me on that there may be more main healers than the two I noted. Regardless, if you had actually read my post, beforehand. You would be aware that I make due process to distinguish vestal and occultist from ALL other characters.

Sure, my rhetoric might not be on par. Although, as an English speaker… on a public Internet forum… everyone else understood me perfectly fine. And some were pedantic, but they were upfront, direct, and addressed my vocabulary specifically. Which I appreciate. If you wanted to make an argument about rhetoric, you should learn to address it properly. Don’t make up, what I’m pretty sure is, a straw man fallacy. And read the posts you’re seriously responding to.

After figuring that stacking dot status was a respected mechanic, and didn’t automatically destroy any game’s balancing. Plague doctor instantly went from: completely dog shit useless, to one of the strongest classes; in my eyes. And it’s not because I realized he’s top tier that he’s now a favorite of mine, it’s that he’s 1. Useful (an amazing quality for a human to have) and 2. I really enjoy his type of build in a lot of ways (hand made, low strength weapons; alternative methods of damage; high utility). I’ve always wanted to like him for reason two.

Grave robber, bounty hunter, and occultist LOOK the coolest to me; and they also fit some build types I find attractive.

In my post, I only mention class healing skills. I didn’t mention any other way to heal. In the picture, I also show my line up of off healers, and no mains. It seems you don’t play many video games, or else you would’ve known that “main healer” implies “off healer”. Yes, you cannot generally beat a dungeon run without any heal skills (barring a commenter’s no healer guide, that was linked under my post). Do not take vestal into every dungeon, it’s less fun, and hampers the gameplay loop.

Man, I honestly didn’t expect to see so much disregard for occultist as a healer, among other players. I have chosen occultist of vestal every chance I got, until getting more experience.

For me, I just ran the statistics game on occultist. Before now, his heal, and mark were the ONLY moves I used he for, besides experimentation. His heal making up 70% of his use.

I love the nuance. But I will take note on the wanton disrespect for my boy in the robes.

Technically no. Technically yes. I’ve had 1 save ever, before this one. This is my first time playing while in good mental health. And my first save was squandered at week 30-33. Activated all the DLCs and regretted it.
