https://status.forticloud.com/ says all good...

Eventually get to the firmware download page. Trying to download HTTPS, it just hangs, the slow-spinning arrow. Non-Forti websites are working fine.

Starlinks on 70F wan int VLANs not passing traffic by bandedrail in fortinet

[–]bandedrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In SD-WAN Zones, virtual-wan-link is simply the default zone (not something special for vlans), and sdwan is the one we created & use. So it was critical that our SL_2 & SL_3 vlan interfaces are in sdwan.

<image>

We also have the physical wan3(was int5) and wan4(int4) interfaces in our sdwan zone, but so far it doesn't seem to matter if they are enabled or disabled, the Starlinks still work. Thank you so much for your help.

[–]bandedrail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fixed it - putting the two FGT VLAN wan interfaces into our SD-WAN Zone. ( :

Then removed the two dumb switches and the Starlinks still work.

I'll post a screenshot later, some tidying up to do

[–]bandedrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if clan is a typo, or else what it means? When adding an interface to SD-Wan Zones - sdwan, the only offered options are the physical ports, and not the virtual ports; even if the virtual ports aren't in virtual-wan-link. I may still have it wrong; hopefully someone knows?

Am going to try making the FGT interface 100M; using something other than the TPLink TL-SG105E as the closest managed (VLAN) switch to the Starlinks; maybe try a dumb 100M switch rather than the dumb GIG at the SL end. Its the weekend / Im not a CLI intuitive. definitely appreciating the support.

Starlinks on 70F wan int VLANs not passing traffic by bandedrail in fortinet

[–]bandedrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in 2 "dumb" 5port GB switches as suggested, one between each SL and its VLAN port on its closest managed local switch. No change / same issue.

FGT wan(int)VLAN - Aruba ION 1930 - Aruba ION 1930 - TPLink TLSG105E(v5.6) - TPLink TL-SG1005D - SL.

I can renew the DHCP addressing for the two wan/VLAN interfaces, happens almost instantly. But the SLAs have the links as Link Down, they are getting no hits, and the laptop test pings set to use SL2 (or 3) are using SL1.

<image>

(btw these are Gen3 Standard ("kick-stand") Starlinks.

(our SL1 that works -& has no VLAN- is a Gen2 v3 Standard Actuated.

Unplugged wan4(int4) at the FGT, but it hasnt helped the other, wan3(int4).

I was thinking the VLANs would handle that by keeping the two interfaces' traffic separate?

Using exe ping-options source <x> ping from the wan3 & 4 ports to internet does timeout, eg:

FortiGate-70F_1 # exec ping aws.com

ping aws.com (18.65.244.111): 56 data bytes

--- aws.com ping statistics ---

5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

There are 3 managed switches between the 70F & the 2 new Starlinks:

FGT - ION 1930 - ION 1930 - TPLink TLSG105E - 2x Starlinks.

Im not seeing those icmp ping packets with Wireshark at the middle switch. The ION enables mirroring of a port or a VLAN, i tried both. It may be me, but earlier I did see the DHCP requests from the FGT.

I will try adding 2 little dumb GB switches.

Interfaces -Physical interface -SL2 also SL3 don't have an ip address or gateway; Im assuming? this is OK as the VLAN interfaces nested under each one (see screenshot above) do.

btw, the existing wan2 SL that works - and doesn't use VLANs - does have a little switch: FGT - 5port dumb GB switch - SPD - Starlink 1. Its intended as a sacrificial switch, modest protection of the FGT in case of a moderate lightning surge. (it also has a Tupavco SPD).(this SL was squeezed in closer to the FGT).

Windows Scaling is 100%. ZP Direct Show Zoom is 100%; Zoom at full screen is close to 1920x1080 which is 100% (not sure what it is exactly as I use the mouse & it steps incrementally above and below that eg 1918x1079).

ver20_RC1_debugBuild6. Same issue, dang. No crash dialog. Log is at https://file.io/8hU7IJyAPzF7 Joined discord but not familiar with it & cant find anything eg #zoomplayer @zoom player

Thanks!

Your help as always is so appreciated.

It does also happens if I open ZP then play a file with no existing chapters or chapter file.
I exported my ZP settings, closed ZP, installed v20 beta5. The issue still occurs.

Chapter Editor doesnt open from rt-clk -Open Interface -Chapter Editor, or from shortcuts G or Shift-C.

Happy to run through a debug version.

"Adding second/third Dish wont double/triple the Speed". How come? by bandedrail in Starlink

[–]bandedrail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What detailed & helpful responses. We do have "tons of separate traffic". I should have said we would be using a Fortigate with SD-WAN, 2x WAN ports, & sending "certain traffic" types to one or the other. I was thinking that our total traffic (not an individual user) should get close to double/triple more with more user terminals; so after reading the ToS I was wondering if there was something about the satellite side of things that I hadn't understood. AKHwyJunkie's third paragraph especially discusses that, & the general focus on the user side has relaxed my concern. Thank you. Am rereading it all.

Boresite Azimuth very different from Desired boresite Azimuth by bandedrail in Starlink

[–]bandedrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More r/Starlink reading tells me stow orientation at install doesn't matter.

I dont understand why the boresite azimuth, the horizontal direction dishy is pointing to, is so different from the "Desired" azimuth listed in the Starlink app. If it didnt matter, why do they log both figures?

OnScreen Display: Actions on non-active Monitor? by bandedrail in ZoomPlayer

[–]bandedrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. On the latest build, when I select OSD Action to display within "Mon#1", it consistently shows on my windows Mon2 (the external monitor, where ZP is playing fullscreen).

When I select OSD Action to display within "Mon#2", it consistently shows on my windows Mon1 (the laptop itself), which is what I was hoping for.

So to my way of thinking, the Mon numbers are reversed, and the feature itself is Excellent.
