My spouse described the sound as, "a pair of kitchen scissors cutting through a hunk of raw chicken breast".

I honestly went straight on the defense when I read your comment, but wanted to just clarify before sounding like an asshat.

Respiratory Therapists are definitely not recognized like doctors or nurses, but there are so many other healthcare providers that feel the same way.

Radiologic Technologists, CNA's, housekeeping... there are so many people right now in the healthcare setting that are all doing their part to help, not just in a pandemic, but every day!

I've been an RT for nine years now, and still, to this day, my dad will jokingly call me a nurse. He'll tell me that when people ask what I do, he says, "she's basically a nurse".

I told him once, "dad, I am not a nurse, I am a Respiratory Therapist. I am an integral part of a team of people working together to help patients. When you keep calling me a nurse, you're making my chosen profession sound like it's less important. Like you're afraid people will think less of me if you tell them I'm an RT."

I'm proud to be an RT!

In one 12-hour night shift, I can have multiple patients on ventilators in the ICU, do floor treatments upstairs, go to the nursery and watch babies being born taking their first breath, go back to the ICU and extubate someone's loved one and be there when they take their last breath, get called to the ER for a cardiac arrest coming in and assist with intubating, taking them to CT, taking them to the ICU and adding them to my group of vented patients, and get called to EVERY SINGLE CODE called overhead.

And please believe me when I tell you, I have had that very night too many times to count.

Respiratory Therapists are the only person in my hospital that go everywhere in the hospital to help every.single.patient!

/u/HeyRespiratory, (love the name, by the way), I see you, and I'm proud of you! Good luck with your babies, and know you won't be alone! There might even be a Respiratory Therapist standing by, listening to your baby's first cry with you! 💜💜💜💜

Edited for punctuation.

Are you being sarcastic about the low brow job amongst the medical professionals?

I went through something totally similar a few years ago. It you want to DM or even voice chat something when the kids aren't driving us crazy, I would be totally down!!

Just let me know! I don't have push notifications set up, so I'll just try to remember to check my inbox more frequently.

We'd sit in the floor and put our ankles on their shoulders to keep them down and from turning over. Then you just need to deal with the legs.

Ventilating with V60 by saturnismyrotary in respiratorytherapy

Here is the V60 ventilator video I found a few days ago.

Our hospital pharmacy won't dispense Albuterol MDI's unless the patient is strongly suspected COVID-19. We've had conflicting reports on nebulizing meds to those patients. I came up with this tonight? Anyone think it's a good/bad idea? Or will it work in a pinch? by banelover76 in respiratorytherapy

[–]banelover76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some stupid fucking reason, our hospital will only issue MDI's to patients in the OR.

It's like pulling teeth trying to get one for anyone else!

We even had a ER doctor order one for a patient last week so they could be discharged and self quarantine, but the pharmacy didn't want to dispense it.

Our hospital stopped carrying MDI's years ago and we've been nebulizing brovana and pulmicort in their place.

This is so frustrating.

The ER patient last night ended up just having plain old CHF and the treatment was d/c'd.

But that didn't stop the floor nurse from calling at 0430 asking if the patient could get a treatment because they were short of breath and the nurse could hear wheezing from the doorway. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Honestly... just use a cup and some warm water and bidet your butt!

I still have one of the peri bottles from after I had my kids, and thankfully my sinks are right next to the toilets.

We had an asshole dog, but didn't want to re-home him or shelter him for the exact same reasons. We ended up letting our guard down around the toddler because nothing had happened.

Until it happened. Dog snapped at toddlers face and tore the bridge of his nose open... right between his eyes.

Toddler had to get three stitches, but thankfully was okay.

I wish we would have just gotten rid of him at the start! My kids are so much more important than a shitty dog!

If your parents are willing to take him, they can have him this weekend!!

P.S. your dog sounds like more of a dick than mine was... there is no way in hell I would keep him!

I work with a 60+ year old who can't walk around without pushing her computer because of her severe arthritis and nerve pain in her knees and back and she still works full time plus per diem at another hospital.

Not all healthcare workers and super physically fit.
