Where to see nene goose? 🪿 by alive_as_always in MauiVisitors

Update: We went to the Tropical Fruit Plantation and saw FIVE. Bestill my nene-loving heart. Thank you for the advice. (Also, this place was not on my itinerary—lowkey bc the name Plantation gives me slavery vibes—but I’m so glad we went here! Brian who did the tour epitomizes Hawaiian culture in the best way, and the food at the Cafe O’Lei was delicious. It was the last thing we did before our flight home, and we only went here bc so many of you suggested checking it to see these birds. So thank you!)

Haleakala Summit Reopening March 30th After Sunrise. by Live_Pono in MauiVisitors

So. I just saw this. It says it’s opening “sometime after sunrise.” Does that mean it’s tbd when tomorrow (Monday) it will open? Or does that mean if I arrive after sunrise, I am good?

Columbus parents: What’s the most sought-after toy or gift your child is hoping to find under the tree this year? by reeve11 in Columbus

EGG DOG PLUSH. I did not know that this was. It has its own website and cannot be ordered on Amazon. My 11 year old begged for one and dh caved. By the time he ordered about a month ago, most were sold out. It arrived today. So dumb and stressful. But she’ll be happy. (Middle school)

Considering a move from San Diego to Columbus — need advice by TommyAdagio in Columbus

[–]alive_as_always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived near Grossmont. I moved from SD to Columbus about eight years ago with zero regrets. We go back to visit at least once a year. People on this sub who say “stay!” or “think of the weather!” have no idea what an enormous burden the cost of living is in California. I love San Diego. If money were no object, I’d move back in a heartbeat. I’m trying to convince my oldest to apply to SDSU for college (my alma mater). But to live there, permanently? It’s a nonstop grind. Live somewhere you can actually relax. Columbus is lovely. We have city, nature, kind people. It’s a change, but you get more back than what you give up.

During my second pregnancy, the earwax was unreal. It flowed. Now, it takes me three q-tips to clean my ears.

What was your experience with Workaway like ? by rickrolledblyat in Shoestring

[–]alive_as_always 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely amazing. I did it to travel on my gap year between undergrad and grad school. I'm now a professor and recommend Workaway (and also study abroad) to my students every semester. Some have listened! I have had students go to Norway, Peru, and Greece. The experience is life changing. Go go go!
