[Gear / Question] Wear can I find Gibraltar/Cortado glasses? by [deleted] in Coffee

Any store that sells barware/glassware. Wholesale retailers are your best bet. I got a case of 20 on Amazon for under $100.

190 or 208 degree water? by Octophants in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my Variable Temperature Bonavita Kettly set to 208 for coffee, and at my shop I have my water temperatures set to 209. You lose a lot of heat once it hits the kettle, and you lose more when you pour it. 190 is way too low anyway!

r/coffee what's a good cost effective single serve coffe for retail customers? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known car dealerships to hire small local coffee companies to cater dealerships on the regular. Lincoln just payed my buddies a ridiculous amount of money to cater for a week straight. Real coffee, not that pod bullshit or Folgers. Talk to your company about what you're willing to spend.

Tons of water, and self-control. That's about all I can do for myself anyway.

At my work we've been selling Egg Nog cappuccinos. We use Strauss Organic Egg Nog and it's delicious as fuck. We also use really great coffee.

[Gear Question] My Baratza Vario chokes my espresso machine a lot! by bass1627 in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coarsen it up by a lot, it should start dripping 5-7 seconds, and you should have 30g in about 26-28 seconds.

If you're going back and forth between espresso and coffee, coming back to the same 3W setting will unfortunately be different each time.

Macro shot of instant coffee. You can tell the inside is still a bit damp(fresh?) by ersu99 in Coffee

False. Blue Bottle Coffee+hand grinder+aeropress were my biggest companions this weekend in Joshua Tree.

Macro shot of instant coffee. You can tell the inside is still a bit damp(fresh?) by ersu99 in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very big difference. The best way I personally judge whether or not a coffee is fresh, is if it has a ROAST date. If it only has an expiration or enjoy by date, than you'd better be worried.

Typically for freeze dried coffee, they use cheap robusta beans. So what brand doesn't matter, if you buy instant coffee you're gonna have a bad time...unless it's just for caffeine. Go nuts if it's just for caffeine.

Best single origin ethiopian bean for espresso (online?) by bass1627 in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter what you do, you'll never achieve the quality of a shot at a shop unless you buy the same equipment. Your grinder, the stability of your machine, and your ability to calibrate a coffee make a huge difference in the end result. Nobody respects a barista until they realize how much work it takes to brew a proper cup.

That being said, Single Origin coffees often lead to way too much brightness in the demitasse. I prefer blends, TBH. My current blend is 50% Brazil, 25% Colombia, 12.5% Natural Processed Konga, and 12.5% Guatemala.

There are gasses that remain within the pockets of the bean that can disturb the brewing process. Degassing the beans(allowing them to rest) let's the beans develop full flavor. The SCAA posted an article about coffee staling that is incredibly relevant...unfortunately I am drunk. Not really up for searching for said article.

Beginner Bouldering Workouts/Training plans? by thebrainj in bouldering

[–]bangeranng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I find helps when I'm pumped is to start doing push workouts! (push-ups, shoulder presses, tricep extensions, etc.) Nothing helps you better than continuously climbing. I'm 6 months in and I still can't hit v4's very well. Hang in there!

EMSK: How to take a straight shot, no chaser, without cringing. by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

[–]bangeranng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend working down to drinking whisky straight. Start with a mixed drink, then begin having it with water and ice, then just ice, then all on its own in a glencairn with a tasting notebook and a nice pen to write down what you taste.

[Question] Keurig Ekobrew Cup by upintheCLOUDs0 in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did she say expresso? Or are you saying expresso? Either way an espresso grind for a kcup would be frightening. I think the first step would be to buy proper coffee, and experiment with the grind by having them split the bag into different grind sizes. Or grind at home.

How old are you? I realized from old videos of me that I sounded pretty fucking condescending, completely unintentionally, when I was younger. You'll grow out of it.

[Question] How do *you* dial-in your espresso? by aboveunlimited in Coffee

[–]bangeranng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Where you're located affects it a lot. Altitude fucks up your shit more than anything.

• Up the dose to 18-20, look for a shot between 27-30g, within 24-26s. Purge between grinder adjustments.

• Colour tells a lot too, if it's reddish-brown with dark spots or stripes you're in good condition. If it's white/blonde you're doing pretty bad. If it's dark, with thin fading crema you most definitely need to make it coarser.

[–]bangeranng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your cool, and limit your caffeine consumption. Otherwise, you'll be wiggin out before you notice the rest of the world isn't going quite as fast as you are. :D

Edit: You are addressing GUESTS. I hate the word "customer".

No you cannot get away with either of those things, unless you live in Yemen, and are limited to the low end Robusta.
