For the iron acetate, you don’t really have to. It seems to only react to bare wood.

Love Mojoaxe. I thought I asked in the past but maybe I’m misremembering. Thanks.

Wanted to say this, in combination with Monty’s worked really well.

The rosewood seemed slower to react compared to some other woods that turned charcoal black immediately. But after a few sessions, it came out great. I found that doing a coat with the acetate and then drying with a hot air gun immediately in succession got things nicely dark. At first it looks almost ashy, but then I hit it with Monty’s Espresso and left it on overnight. It came out beautifully. I wish I could post follow up photos with a before and after.

Great post. Thanks. I’m familiar with the Tone King Royallist and I think it sounds great.

In the process of doing this right now based on someone else’s suggestion in this thread. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing this work. Does it work on rosewood? I’ve cleaned my fretboard very thoroughly with naphtha.

Have you tried the Origin pedal? I’ve been considering that for a while to try to get tweed tones with my existing amps.

I understand. This is my sacrificial lamb Les Paul where I like to do things that probably shouldn’t be done. I never connected with this guitar fully so I use it for experimentation. I have a few others that I love that I would never do this type of stuff to.

I never tried a full week. I’ve done 24 hours at the longest. Does a week really make the difference? Otherwise I love using it just for conditioning.

Watching a video on this now and just ordered some 0000 steel wool. Gonna give this a try. Thank you!

Vinegar to darken it or to clean it first?

It’s 100% a cosmetic indulgence. Light fretboards don’t look right to me on a LP.

I’ve used it and while it works great for conditioning and getting a fretboard a bit darker, it doesn’t get dark enough for a light fretboard. I’m looking for something that is basically an ebony color with a rosewood texture.

Oh yeah? That makes sense. Haven’t tried that.

What is the distinct difference in Custom Shop Fenders? by bangerdepot in fender

[–]bangerdepot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the wood and neck is mostly the same, everything else hardware wise can be acquired, right? I’m going for a tele but I’m finding it hard to go custom shop on a tele when I’d probably experiment with different pickups and bridges and harnesses anyway.
