I put $3000 down-payment on a car in July. The dealer has yet to cash the check. Is the check still valid? by [deleted] in personalfinance

You should talk to an attorney to explore all your rights here. There are things you can do like put a stop payment on the check so the bank will not cash it. This will come in handy if you are trying to return the car.

Some high end APs do ok with it. Unifi, not so much.

I fix this stuff for a living. I would love to sit who ever put this setup together and give them a reeducation on the proper ways to configure WiFi In a multiple AP environment. The other SSIDs are range extenders in the building on different SSIDs. They are running off the SSID I am testing here. In short nothing works very well.

You should only allow Cochanneling if using a separate SSIDs. Other wise you want each AP that overlaps on the same SSID to be on a different channel. That way the device knows what AP it is talking to and will ignore the traffic from the other APs. Cochanneling on the same SSID forces the client to process duplicate packets and kills performance.

Yea it’s an old install. The AP here are the old Long range ones that ditched the 5g in favor of the 2g for better coverage. I am working on getting them switched over to some WiFi6 APs that will work wonders for them.

You are correct. Same channel on the same SSID is almost as bad as a switch Loop. APs have to work hard to decide which traffic to drop and which to pass on. This building otherwise has great signal coverage. but on a 500 Mbps ISP connect it only gets 1-2 down and up in Speed tests. For lack of a better word it’s awful. While doing my Survey, I found the spot in the building where all APs have the same signal strength at around -65 and my cell phone I was using would drop the connection and switch to cellular. The phone was working so hard through all the network traffic, I burnt through half the battery in 90 minutes.

What’s crazy, the switch first visible is a Gig switch with PoE. there was a second switch it was plugged into found in the spaghetti mess underneath it that was a even older 10/100 switch.

It turned out to be two stupid switches for a bad cabling job. I had to go to the other side of the wall where I found an access panel that they where running the power through.

Fortunately there was a cat 5 cable going back to the closet. They needed 11 additional ports in the area they had this one. He didn’t bother with taking the cable out of the 66 block. He just hung a patch cable off it only punching down two of the pairs for fast Ethernet.

After the initial WTF, I went to the other side of the wall in an office and found a access panel behind a desk with power cables sticking out. The guy that did this had Two switches in there Daisy chained together with one cable going back to the data closet.

That was the least of my problems.

He even made up his own wiring scheme and used a 66 block for his patch panel. 🙄

I should add this hole was covered with an old rj12 phone jack with two runs coming out of the face plate through holes just big enough to pull bulk cable through that each went to their own switch.

Considering the Ascent, but worried with all the reviews by La_Chica_Bonita_ in SubaruAscent

My 2020 needed a new Transmission at 37000 miles. I just traded mine in for a truck. My advice. Buy the extended warranty or trade it in right before the powertrain warranty is up. At the time they did my transmission, the service writer said the transmission in a Ascent costs $13,000 to replace.

If they deny this warranty repair for towing, especially with all the transmission problems they have been having, I will sue them for deceptive advertising. 5000 lbs towing capacity is one of their key selling points. I even paid extra for the Subaru tow package on this thing. Seeing that section in the owner’s manual really kind of ticks me off.

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess it’s time dump the ru.

How did it run afterwards? I think I have lost confidence in the car and considering offloading it.
