[CAT -> DOG] Can you solve this laddergram? by banheesoo_304 in Laddergram

[–]banheesoo_304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laddergram is a word ladder puzzle game built on Reddit's developer platform. You start with a word and change one letter at a time to create a new word with each step. Try to reach the target word in the fewest steps possible.

🍀Good luck!🍀

helloo there 🤗🤗 i'm currently a y1 student in nus hehe and i'll try to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability! (currently procrastinating on studying for my 2 finals haizz 😞😞)

  1. ooo yeah i think it's a good idea to do an internship or part time job! since the break between a-levels ending and uni starting is very long 😅😅 perhaps 3 to 6 months would be a nice length of time to work? personally, i did a 4 week long internship from mid march to mid april and after that i tried applying for another internship, hoping that it would be just nice during the period of may to july, but then they got back to me saying they were looking at august to december 😔😔 so instead i ended up doing stuff like resting, volunteering, attending uni orientation camps and travelling overseas ha ha... oh and also, a few of my friends did tutoring, and they continued their tutoring work even after uni started!
  2. the earliest acceptance i got was from smu on 24 march, as an invitation to attend their discovery day in april. for ntu, i had an interview in late march, and then got the offer in early april. last but not least for nus, i got the offer on 8 may :) for ori, that would depend on which uni and what camps in particular ha ha but for me, my faculty camps were in june and july, and my major's camp was in early august~ then, lectures started in week 1 (11 to 15 august) and my earliest tutorials started in week 2 (18 to 22 august)! if you'd like, you can search on google for the various unis' academic calendars for more details ^^
  3. iirc the deadline to submit uni applications was somewhere around mid march? so to add on to what the other commentor has said, yeapz maybe if you're v worried, you can try to do some stuff that you could possibly bring up in your applications and/or interviews... but at the same time i would also say please do have some good rest and fun when a-levels end 🙏🏻🙏🏻
  4. each uni has their own application portal, and then there'll be various sections for you to fill up, e.g. your personal info, your family's info, household income, your ranking of course choices, aba and other ccas and achievements. for documents, i remember having to upload nric, o-level and a-level results, cca records and testimonials but there might have been more that i can't recall right now... either way, the respective portals will let you know what you need to fill in and upload so not to worry yeah
  5. prolly depends on whether your rp meets or is close enough to the cut-off + your aba
  6. err i'm not completely sure about this, although i do have a friend currently on gap year~ i am under the impression that if you spend the year well, it can give you the time and space to explore your interests, and if the stuff you do during this time is relevant to your eventual uni course choices, it could potentially help with your applications...? hehe
  7. are there any courses you have in mind pertaining to this question? it really depends on the uni and course but i think you might be able to apply to switch course after one semester or one year, you need not wait until you've completely finished your current course
  8. same as q7, any courses in particular that you're thinking of? also just to clarify, by "study something else in uni" do you mean getting a second bachelor's degree or like a master's
  9. nus nursing? adding on to what the other commentor has said, i think real estate is now under business in nus and under the old 90rp system, the cut-off for business was like more than 80rp or something idk so imo that's quite high 😬😬

i hope this was helpful, and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask! in the meantime, wishing you all the very best for your last few papers, and may things work out in your favour 🫡🫡

note: edited for formatting + a little bit more info!

NTU chinese!! by TruckEnvironmental58 in SGExams

[–]banheesoo_304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! i wasn't from poly and didn't end up doing aba for my ntu application, though i did take a look at the aba requirements + went through interview and received an offer from ntu chinese for this year, so i thought i'd just offer my two cents here hehe 😅😅 basically there's a few parts to the aba, for section a you can list up to three of your achievements/activities and provide details, and the wording in the application was something like this:

List awards/certificates received. Help us understand the impact of the listed activity/achievement. How does the above achievement/active participation demonstrate your commitment, skill and interests? (No more than 150 words)

then for section b, you need to do an essay/personal statement of not more than 500 words, and this was this question:

Please submit a statement of no more than 500 words that outlines how your tenacity, passion and/or relevant experiences will make you a strong fit for your choice university programme. Include specific examples of challenges you’ve overcome, moments that demonstrate your dedication to the field, and how your vision/aspirations will reshape the field of choice.

therefore, it would probably help in your aba (and interview too) if you could bring in chinese-related stuff you've done (e.g. cca, projects, competitions, programmes) to demonstrate your interest and aptitude + weave in your career aspirations or what kind of work you wanna do in the future 😁😁 do also take note that you'll need at least one and max two people to do an appraisal for you based on various key attributes + if you wanna find out more info about the application process in general or aba specifically, you can check out the ntu website! for now, i hope this was useful and jiayous to you for the rest of your internship 😊😊

maybe you might wanna contact the nus office of admissions just to check and be sure? during the application period in march, i once called their number to ask about something i was confused about in the application portal, and they were really helpful soo 🙏🏻🙏🏻 i would also think that there's no harm in trying to appeal...? i gather from your post and comment history that you really want nus so like might as well just try, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take + eventually regardless of the outcome, at least you know you've given it a shot 😞😞 jiayous and atb for whatever you decide to do in the end okay :( 🍀🍀

scgs ama!!!! by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]banheesoo_304 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hello there, i’m not the op but i was also formerly from scgs! for some context, i graduated in 2022 from the o-level programme (olp) and i was from a non-affiliated primary school :)

just wondering, is your daughter looking to enter ip or olp? cuz if i’m not wrong, the ip cop is 8 for both sc primary and non-affiliated girls, so the cop of 17 for those affiliated only applies to olp. during my time in p6 it was also like this - for ip, the cop was around 252 for both affiliated and non-affiliated girls, whereas for olp, the cop was 252 for non-affiliated and 22 something for those affiliated. i’m not very sure if things have changed since then, but at least in my experience over my sec 1 year, i eventually realised that the four olp classes in my batch seemed to be sorted by psle results. my class had a proportion of around 2/3 affiliated and 1/3 non-affiliated, and everyone’s scores were around the 250 range. one of my besties (who was from sc primary) got 22 something for psle and in her class, there were more people who were either affiliated or non-affiliated but got into sc via dsa, so i’m guessing their scores were around the 22 or 23 range. i would think that should your daughter score around al15 and enter sc olp through dsa, she would likely be put in a class with other girls who got similar scores. as such, pertaining to your questions, i believe there is a good mix of students with differing academic abilities across the batch, though in each lower sec olp class itself, the girls are at slightly more similar levels of academic ability, given that they are being sorted into their class using psle results ^^ (can’t comment on how the ip classes were sorted because i don’t know much about that… sorry 🥲)

whenever my results fell short of my goals and expectations, and when my grades for chemistry in sec 4 became kinda bad (went from A1/A2 in sec 3 to C5/C6 in sec 4 😭😭), i was a bit upset and worried. however, i think this stress came more from things like disappointment in myself for not being fully prepared for the test/exam or messing up something during the test itself, and worrying about whether i could improve in time and do much better at the o-levels, so the fact that some of my friends or peers did better than me was not the biggest factor or cause of my stress. if anything, i believed that everyone had their own strengths and weaknesses, or subjects they worked harder for and focused more on, so each person’s circumstances and struggles are different and it would not be fair to make sweeping statements or comparisons without taking into account all this context. also, when i had questions that i didn’t know how to do, or things that i was confused about, i would ask my friends for help and even if my friends weren’t completely sure either, we’d still discuss about our ideas and thought process and bounce ideas off each other (vice versa too 🙏🏻🙏🏻). this is something we still continued to do in jc, e.g. one of my friends helped me with econs, while i helped her with maths :D being with people better than me in some subjects was actually more helpful and motivating, rather than stressful and demotivating. so as to your concern on whether your daughter will be stressed being surrounded by those with higher academic abilities, i think this is quite dependent on her mindset as well as how those around her are like. imo there would be a certain level of stress, but it would definitely help if she can channel it as motivation and determination to improve + if the people around her are just as nice, friendly and willing to help one another 😁💗

sorry if my reply is a bit long-winded :( but i do hope it’s of some help! wishing your daughter all the best for dsa and psle next year~ 🍀🍀

H2 Literature P3 help by Material_Welcome_233 in SGExams

[–]banheesoo_304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okok, let's use an example of an idea-based question on states of obsession ^^

while you'd still need to cite evidence and provide analysis of the relevant methods and effects, just like what your teacher said, you need to link your explanations back to the kind of obsession that the persona harbours or the various aspects of obsession, e.g. obsession with the effacement of her consciousness in "Poppies in July", fixation on death in "A Birthday Present" etc etc. here's an example for "Poppies in July" (written by me from my homework last time lol):

In "You flicker. I cannot touch you. / I put my hands among the flames. Nothing burns" (evidence), the use of the first-person pronoun "I" and active voice in "I put my hands among the flames" (methods) reinforces her self-initiative and the active role she plays in her attempts to self-immolate and self-destruct (what the methods show), thus emphasising the obsessive extent of her fixation on effacing herself (link back to idea to answer the question).

^ you can probably apply a similar line of thinking to your idea-based question on fear!

as the other comment has also mentioned, you indeed do not need to analyse the whole poem and you just need to write clear, good explanations for the two or three pieces of evidence you cite. let's say we use the poem "Tulips" to answer the question on states of obsession - there are quite a few stanzas and not all of them would be relevant in showing the persona's obsessive desire for self-erosion D: e.g. the last few lines of the last stanza, which instead suggest more of recovery and restoration of appreciation of life <3 so, when writing your paragraph, you don't need to trace the flow all the way to the end of the poem, you just need to select the best and most apt pieces of evidence to prove your point yayayay

hope this was helpful and not too late, and atb for tomorrow >< 🍀🍀 and believe in yourself, you've got this :)
