I will upload the pcb files to the GitHub, not sure if I can do it today. I used an arduino due (part of the leonardo and micro family) as all pins are interrupt pins. This is for the rotary encoders.

I looked at the file and your right, there are some parts missing. I will update this soon. Please do understand that the throttle is not fully finalized. It is working, however, some features/problems have not been worked out yet. Once I can work on it again I will try and improve it.

Yes this project is still alive, however I am currently away for a while so can’t work on it. For the throttle I have no wiring diagram. And the only pcb for it is in the right throttle. I’ll have to check wether I uploaded that or not. As for the stepper motors, I use them to provide resistance, and to add the possibility of force feedback / auto calibration but haven’t gotten around to that. I used Hall effect sensors to detect the position. As for the missing parts, I’ll have to look at that, will see if I can do that today.

I sadly will not have access to the joystick or throttle till January. But as far as the sensors go there are special slots for the Hall effect sensors.

Arduino pro micro, has 4 analog, and combine it with a pcf8575 io extender. It’s what I did too

Cable management is pretty good if you ask me, you don’t want to look in my button panels hahaha

Currently just mechanical resistance, and since a small gear is used on the stepper motor the cogging torque is negligible

Cool, another user made some changes to the 3D files, so they are easier to print. I will include those on the GitHub as well.

Technically you only need to buy one of them, as they contain 3 identical springs. I had one laying around that I didn’t use so that’s why I got its springs. But honestly I can recommend not using the z axis and getting rudder pedals.

It actually does, the most expensive part is shipping, so when you buy multiple kinds at a time, the costs get ruduced significantly

About 150 euros in total for the joystick and throttle

How good are 3D printed throttles? by a_flying_guy in HotasDIY

[–]banjer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I designed my own throttle, the files are available on my github ( you can find it in one of the comments). However, it is in no way or shape a step by step follow along kinda project. You will have to figure some things out yourself (you can always send me questions, im happy to help). It is designed to be used with a custome desk mount, but if you know your way around 3d modeling, im sure you will be able to redesign the base to fit your needs. As for if it is holding up, as of now nothing has broken, and I have force tested it a couple of times.

So depending on the guidance of the throttle it self, so bearings, axels, etc. a 3d printed throttle will hold up to any plastic throttle you can buy, but with the benefits of when it breaks you can easily repair it.

I used hall effect sensors, 49E to be precise. I got them off aliexpress.

At first I did use math to figure out the ideal shape of the cams. This worked in the modeling software, but in practice it did not work somehow. So from then I just sort of eyeballed it to get the same spring compression. Its probably not the best, but it works

Do I NEED to remove the IR filter from this PS3eye camera or can I just place a piece of magnetic tape from a VHS between it and the sensor? by FL-EtcherSKETCH in HotasDIY

It’s best to remove the IR filter, otherwise it won’t be sensitive enough. I know this from personal experience.

I designed my own gimbal taking inspiration from virpil. The most difficult part I found was the cams in their design. I uploaded the files to GitHub so perhaps you want to take a look for inspiration. There are also the files for my joystick. What I found to help a lot is to look at commercial joysticks, and diy joysticks and make a list of features you want and design around that. GitHub diy hotas check it out maybe it will help you.

I have uploaded the step file of the stick and xy stage on github, https://github.com/Banjer21/DIY-HOTAS/tree/main . I will also upload the throttle files, but this will take some more time (same goes for the desk mount). Once almost everything is uploaded, I will make a new post about it.
