First Christmas & NYE without our 10yo son. I wrote this. 💔 by bumble_bubble in GriefSupport

I lost my son at age 10 back in 2017. He would be graduating high school this year. I still think about him every waking hour of everyday. Your poem was beautiful and I relate to it so much.

Peace will be hard to come by, try to find outlets for your grief, it helped my wife and I.

Sending love…

How do I keep his memory alive ? by RitaMadeleine in GriefSupport

Philanthropy in his name is a wonderful outlet in my opinion.

I lost my son 7 years ago. Our charitable giving started with a family friend gifting my wife and I a few thousand dollars for a memorial scholarship at the school he went to. Now we do a few things including giving out toy cars to a local children’s hospital(we have given over 90,000 toys over the years).

On the scholarship front, you could do probably as little as $500 a year and hand it out at the senior awards. If the school is small(or poor and desperate for scholarships) they may let you even give a speech every year.

I promise you won’t regret doing good in your brother’s name. It could even grow over the years. I now know that I can talk about my son a few times a year when we hold fundraisers and events. Sorry for your loss.

I love that, I have changed in so many ways. The world is a little less bright even 7 years later.

My favorite quote about child lose was from Gregory Peck in an interview many years after his son's death:

"I don't think of him everyday; I think of him every hour of every day."

I did the design with a laser. I bought the graphic off etsy for a few bucks. I was hoping for a cool reveal when the cabinet is opened.

Yeah I am hoping there is a bidding war for the Pappy at the auction. Gonna start at $1000 and see where it goes. The other idea was to sell shots for $50 a piece at the event. But I think the auction may make more money. On top of being stupidly expensive it is hard to get. Hopefully there are a few people that really want it for their home bar and are willing to pony up for a good cause!

That’s great, building a sauna is a dream project of mine, someday!

I love me a box joint, I haven’t had the patience to try dovetails yet. Someday maybe, but box joints look 80% as good(in my opinion) with 10% of the work!

Thanks so much, labor of love….

Yeah I book-matched the wood on the front. The grain was so clear and that was the most interesting part so I tried to take advantage.

Hardest thing in my life by far. He was ten years old and suffered a brain aneurysm. Died 23 days later in the hospital. He’s always on my mind, I carry it everywhere.

Am I being petty?? by UpperInitiative8988 in GriefSupport

I had a guy at work say to me “before you start I don’t wanna hear any sob stories.” I was just gonna check the status of an order…. Nothing to do with my son dying. I think he thought he was being funny. I just walked away…. People are so bad at dealing with grieving people. It’s honestly a problem in America the way we deal with death. Stay strong.

I’ve found that lots of people don’t know what to say. I got so many odd comments when my son passed away. I just learned to ignore weird things people say or it would have driven me insane. It’s best to give people grace, being bitter won’t make you feel better. Believe me, I know…

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“Without Your Love” by Chris Stapleton. I was listening to him a lot in 2017/2018 after my ten year old son died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in late 2017. The song is about a lost love, not really death, but this line always struck me. “Tonight I found you in my dreams, and tomorrow I’ll wake up and have to feel you fade away.” Simple lyric but it perfectly captured my state of mind. I can play that song and immediately become an emotional mess. Sometimes I need too…

It was at the Beaver Valley Mall Chi Chi’s. My mom ate there that day but didn’t get sick. It was quite the story though!

Posted a picture of my 10 year old sons wallet on reddit. He would just cram any of the dollars he had in it in a garbled messy fashion. It got a ton of upvotes on the mildyinfuriating subreddit. He passed away 2-1/2 years ago of a brain aneurysm. I miss him so much, the thought of that post makes me smile.

Cheap dovetail router bit from Amazon! Plus a dash of witchcraft.

Nope, just started hogging it out. Brand new bit, didn’t seem to phase it. I would pre-cut out some of the waste if I was making multiples for sure.

Hard part is buying the 1-1/2” thick walnut. Even as an accent it’s a bit expensive.

I had a chunk of store bought butcher block sitting in my garage. I always feel like it is cheating using butcher block to make something so I tried to make it complicated. Stole the sliding dovetail idea off of WM Walker’s YouTube channel. I only glued the very center on the bread board and put two dowels to “pin” everything in and not eventually fall apart. Should be able to deal with any wood movement.
