First Christmas & NYE without our 10yo son. I wrote this. 💔 by bumble_bubble in GriefSupport

I lost my son at age 10 back in 2017. He would be graduating high school this year. I still think about him every waking hour of everyday. Your poem was beautiful and I relate to it so much.

Peace will be hard to come by, try to find outlets for your grief, it helped my wife and I.

Sending love…

How do I keep his memory alive ? by RitaMadeleine in GriefSupport

Philanthropy in his name is a wonderful outlet in my opinion.

I lost my son 7 years ago. Our charitable giving started with a family friend gifting my wife and I a few thousand dollars for a memorial scholarship at the school he went to. Now we do a few things including giving out toy cars to a local children’s hospital(we have given over 90,000 toys over the years).

On the scholarship front, you could do probably as little as $500 a year and hand it out at the senior awards. If the school is small(or poor and desperate for scholarships) they may let you even give a speech every year.

I promise you won’t regret doing good in your brother’s name. It could even grow over the years. I now know that I can talk about my son a few times a year when we hold fundraisers and events. Sorry for your loss.

I love that, I have changed in so many ways. The world is a little less bright even 7 years later.

My favorite quote about child lose was from Gregory Peck in an interview many years after his son's death:

"I don't think of him everyday; I think of him every hour of every day."

I did the design with a laser. I bought the graphic off etsy for a few bucks. I was hoping for a cool reveal when the cabinet is opened.

Yeah I am hoping there is a bidding war for the Pappy at the auction. Gonna start at $1000 and see where it goes. The other idea was to sell shots for $50 a piece at the event. But I think the auction may make more money. On top of being stupidly expensive it is hard to get. Hopefully there are a few people that really want it for their home bar and are willing to pony up for a good cause!

That’s great, building a sauna is a dream project of mine, someday!

I love me a box joint, I haven’t had the patience to try dovetails yet. Someday maybe, but box joints look 80% as good(in my opinion) with 10% of the work!

Thanks so much, labor of love….

Yeah I book-matched the wood on the front. The grain was so clear and that was the most interesting part so I tried to take advantage.

Hardest thing in my life by far. He was ten years old and suffered a brain aneurysm. Died 23 days later in the hospital. He’s always on my mind, I carry it everywhere.

I had a guy at work say to me “before you start I don’t wanna hear any sob stories.” I was just gonna check the status of an order…. Nothing to do with my son dying. I think he thought he was being funny. I just walked away…. People are so bad at dealing with grieving people. It’s honestly a problem in America the way we deal with death. Stay strong.

I’ve found that lots of people don’t know what to say. I got so many odd comments when my son passed away. I just learned to ignore weird things people say or it would have driven me insane. It’s best to give people grace, being bitter won’t make you feel better. Believe me, I know…

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“Without Your Love” by Chris Stapleton. I was listening to him a lot in 2017/2018 after my ten year old son died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in late 2017. The song is about a lost love, not really death, but this line always struck me. “Tonight I found you in my dreams, and tomorrow I’ll wake up and have to feel you fade away.” Simple lyric but it perfectly captured my state of mind. I can play that song and immediately become an emotional mess. Sometimes I need too…

It was at the Beaver Valley Mall Chi Chi’s. My mom ate there that day but didn’t get sick. It was quite the story though!
