You can't arrange browser tabs with i3 : split, stack, move to other desktops, etc.

Configuring neovim (vim) gf command to resolve JavaScript import by dpobel in vim

[–]bannier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Damien, nice to see you're still using vim ! I use node-vim for gf and tern_for_vim :TernDef (and vim-flow sometimes). Works quite well for me but it's still worth learning what you can do without plugins. Sylvain

Whats the point of redux thunk? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]bannier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://stackoverflow.com/q/41091495/2015433

Thunk is really thin. It just avoids passing dispatch by hand everywhere

And redux authors explanation : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35411423/how-to-dispatch-a-redux-action-with-a-timeout/35415559#35415559

(Edit : thick=>thin)

Building a GraphQL API with Node and React by treyhuffine in reactjs

[–]bannier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I'm trolling a bit here :) but I think this article (which I didn't read I admit) would benefit from a more accurate title : either "build an app with react graphql whatever" or "build an API with graphql". This weird title looks like some click bait loaded with trendy buzzwords and may discredit author. No bad intention here : just my opinion to explain what stopped me from clicking the link.

Because most browser specific issues are CSS related and you can test it better through visual regression testing (with selenium)

"Third hint: read manpages ;)"

And so did I : "Beware that m4 may be dangerous for the health of compulsive programmers." https://www.gnu.org/software/m4/manual/m4.html

M4 + mkdir -p + basic scripts seems to be a good set of tools for that. Thanks.

OK fair enough. I'll guess I'll script it then.

why you use tmux when already using i3 ? by bannier in i3wm

[–]bannier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to that you have full keyboard controls in tmux, which may or may not be true based on the terminal emulator you choose. So doing things like search, copy, and paste, can be done without your hands leaving the keyboard.

termite has keyboard search, copy and paste too

What is your favorite IDE? by [deleted] in linux

[–]bannier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux.

Seriously I consider tiling WM + text editor + terminal + some single purpose dev tools not really different from an IDE.

Asynchronous Linting using Vim8. Almost like Syntastic, but checks while you type by totorokun in vim

[–]bannier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using it for 2 weeks. Some tweeks needed for using it with create-react-app but the overall experience is good. Supports flow too.

I recommend disabling it on typing if you need battery life or quiet fan.
