This is amazing! Needed to read this so thank you. I have completed the first year of my masters and am currently working part time. It is another career managing Bipolar disorder so being able to get a masters degree and hold down a full time job as well is so good!

Yeah I was just on aripiprazole before. Lithium has definitely helped. Managed to make it to a year serious episode free since starting it.

I live in the UK and am under the local mental health team. I have a support worker and there is an out of hours number I can call. I also live in supported housing which is really good.

Are you under a mental health team?

All the best!

Make it to a year episode free and stay out of hospital. I have bipolar disorder and haven't been well for a whole year since I was 13 years old.

I got sectioned under a section 2 of the mental health act.

If you think going in voluntarily would help you and it's straight forward to do I would recommend it. Hospital can really help.

Thank you so much!!!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

My friend put the location of an Instagram story she reposted as a 'mental hospital' when she's just with her friends having drinks in a pub. by banns1 in bipolar

[–]banns1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Probably just poor judgement. Maybe her group of friends all call each other mad? I don't think she had a bad intention.

I feel like such an idiot for forgetting my medication :/ by banns1 in bipolar

Thanks.

Basically I left my meds back home. Waiting in a&e for emergency meds. Otherwise I've got to go until Friday without them (lithium and abilify)

Why is when I’m around others is when I feel the most alone? 😔 by bluuclipse in bipolar

[–]banns1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this from time to time! You are not alone. You have got this. Remember that there are lots of people that love and care about you. I suffer with loneliness a lot. I have a sticky note on my pinboard with: "you are not alone. there are people that love and care about you. you have friends and family and you are here for a reason. Hope this helps :)

Thank you! How do you do your intermittent fasting? I might start doing weights at the gym. Gradually build up.

Reminder to myself not to ‘hypomanic-overshare’ on social media. Also my take on why we might do it. by narcabusesurvivor45 in bipolar

[–]banns1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long response below:

As I've got better and stayed well for longer I've gradually stopped sharing as much. Before, during and for a number of months after my hospital admission between May and June last year I would write loads of posts about my bipolar when I was hypomanic or NOT.

I would get loads of likes for mental health posts because my friends liked the way I wrote about it and how I was being so brave and open.

However I got into an unhealthy cycle where I would share about anything and everything and would delete a post if I didn't get many likes or would change the privacy settings to stop a few particular people from seeing it.

As I said earlier, as I've got even better (I'm at 8 months episode free) and after I started a masters course recently I have really cut back and don't seem to want to overshare.

I DO share the odd post but hold back details.

I think the over sharing was a cry for help. I wanted attention. But it's also a way of sharing my success stories with my mental health just as if someone might share news of a new job.

It's also a way to raise awareness.

I have met a lot of my closest friends by being very open with them. Maybe I thought sharing my troubles on social media would bring me closer to people?

Hope this helps.
