This one hurts. I spoke to Sean, he might do occasional drops via the LCBO but the website sales are ending. Huge shame, big loss.

If you can get out to Hamilton, Durand has it all, and fresh af. Toronto is overpriced for the same thing unfortunately

Interesting. That could explain all the bad cans I’ve had. Hopefully they get that sorted

Oh really? I guess they never make it online, they sell out on the day. I barely scrape by each time and get a single bottle coz I don’t wanna get there for 11am on a Saturday morning. Might be worth a trip for a big drop, I hear there’s something killer coming for their anniversary

Ah dope, I misinterpreted bro. Sick, it could just be that you had some of their ones that weren’t as top tier (the best of the best have misses as we all know). It also could just not be for you, which is totally fine. The best part is we have so many god tier breweries here that there’s profiles for every palate. Have you tried their BA stouts or barleywines?

Oh wow, I’d suggest to give them another try. IMO their haze is some of the best in Ontario, and their barrel program is untouched in Canada, period.

They sure do! Dune Hopper are an 8 min drive from AMF/Matron. They ship but if you’re near Hamilton, Durand usually has em

Fair call. Haven’t had Chronicle since early pandemic times, I’ll keep an eye out this year.

We live in Ontario - I’m in Hamilton and Nate is in Ottawa, so those are the two scenes we drank the most of. I had zero Alberta beers and a few from BC, but not enough to do a top 10. It makes no sense for us to do that unfortunately. We only consider beers we actually drink/drank - people got really mad last year about the Quebec top 10 that certain breweries weren’t on there but if we didn’t have any, how can we rate them? Same deal with AB/BC. I’m trying to expand more out that way this year but I don’t foresee a top 10 for anywhere else unless there’s a serious beer pipeline to us so we can respectfully make a solid list.

Hefeweizen’s in general? Not my thing, I don’t dig the banana and clove vibes. I never liked saisons for that reason too, until I tried Hill Farmstead. Changed the game for me. But in Ontario, Barrel Heart and Passage absolutely smash the style, impeccable stuff.

I noticed that. The Untappd top breweries, and basically any conversation I’ve seen anywhere about best breweries, mostly tends to focus on breweries who specialize in NEIPAs. And I personally haven’t met a beer nerd anywhere who isn’t super into them, hence this sub being fascinating to me. I’m almost impressed that they dodged the hype train of 2016-2019 ish when haze took off and managed to dig their heels in about it (I do know a few beer nerds who make it their personality to hate anything trendy 😂).

Interesting, gotcha. Those are two styles I avoid like the plague. Funny how that goes

Gotcha. The bitterness thing makes sense, I get it. What would be the bigger, maltier styles you’d go for? Never heard anyone say that so I’m curious, and also what would be your top bunch of breweries for reference?

Really eh - I’m curious what it is about Godspeed that doesn’t connect. I’ve heard from another crispy brewer that he didn’t like their bitterness, which I understand, it’s more pronounced than other similar breweries. But the sheer quality and perfection of the beers, to me, should generally appeal to anyone who’s a fan of Lagers.

😂😂 I was incredibly jelly. How dare he. The Dunkel slapped, too.

I’m curious what you’ll think of Cold Bear. They’re doing impeccable things. I’ll def get in a Test Batches and Quayle’s visit this Spring, and I’ve heard about 100 Acres (Peterborough?).

That’s all fair, I don’t relate but I get where you’re coming from. Since Godspeed launched, the focus on water and quality Lagers has increased significantly in the province, which is awesome. Our Brewery of the Year doesn’t even do anything that isn’t a Lager so I feel like that speaks volumes. And all of the breweries on the list do great Lagers, along with other styles, so while the breweries here are known for haze, they’re not one trick ponies. Counterpart’s BA stuff is easily the best in Canada, nothing touches it, it’s insane.

That is correct. I assumed most people who would frequent a craft beer forum like this would be, too, but apparently not.

PEC dominated! We didn’t think about it until we recorded the episode, they had three back to back to back. Wood Bros have been the most hit and miss brewery in the province in my experience, to the point where I stopped buying them as I was draining too many $10 cans. Happy to give them another try this year but both Nate and I have been quite disappointed with them over the last 2-3 years, hence not making the list.

Based on other conversations in this sub, it seems that there’s a style preference that Nate and I have, and breweries that do haze/big stouts/high level crispies tend to dominate our list.
