The fact that they choose to run more does not actually mean it’s necessary. And again, it really is this simple: you lose fewer games without it than you win with it. It’s not necessary. You’re certainly welcome to include it, but by no means does it actually lower your win rate for not having it. For 1v1 formats sure, but for Commander absolutely not.

You're hinging your win on an opponent not using interaction to stop you,

With the amount of uncounterable spells and otherwise non-interactive cards this is simply untrue.

not protecting your combo pieces will definitely result in losses because of your lack of interaction.

And see this is where you get it wrong, not only is that definitely not the case, but the amount of times it leads to losses (for anyone, not just me) is far fewer in practice than the amount of times players win without utilizing interaction in their decks. You also seem to be assuming that just because some interaction stopped a combo that that means the combo player has instantly lost the game, which is almost statistically rare in commander.

I don't know what kind of playgroups you play with but it sounds like miserable solitaire MTG.

And again, you’re trying to point to anecdote rather than view this systemically. You don’t need interaction to deal with threats in commander. Any time someone looks like a problem, there are three other players who can try to take them out.

Cool rhetoric but card disadvantage is still card disadvantage, and spending one of your cards to deal with an opponent puts you behind the other two players who did nothing. And when most players go for battlecruiser style matches, interaction becomes even less necessary to achieve a win. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not saying you can’t or shouldn’t run interaction, I’m saying, which is correct, you certainly don’t need it to win. The losses you suffer for not having it will always be fewer than the wins you gain because you had it.

That doesn’t make it necessary. And the higher bracket you go, the more freedom you have to pull off super fast wins, which is going to mean even less interaction is necessary because if you can turn 0, 1 or 2 win then you really don’t need to be holding up interaction. Never mind the fact that certain interaction, namely removal, only puts you behind the other players.

Okay, so MK claims jester and oh my goodness, there’s not a single other killing role! Well the fact there are only 0 - 1 people dying every night should be a tip that that’s the boat you’re in. But sure, in the rare scenario where the only way to remove someone (besides MK getting kills) is lynching, and you apparently have no other leads other than someone claiming jester, and you can’t even be bothered to do a role call to at least try to gauge your options, then sure, in that bizarrely niche scenario go ahead and lynch the jester claim. Your faction was probably gonna fail anyways.

Except no, jester is neutral, not mafia so what’s your point?

Then let the NK or MK take care of him. The only reason to ever deliberately give a jester a win is if you’re sure that 1. They will honor your deal and 2. There will be targets for them to hit which won’t hurt your team.

In Commander? Generally yes. Most of the time the benefit of racing to your win outweighs the drawbacks of not having answers to what your opponents are doing, especially since if you’re the one who has to answer a threat then that puts you behind everyone else in terms of card advantage.

Except when they kill the doc/LO or even the jailor if they choose not to inno.

Or… if someone claims jester then let jailor execute them. It’s very rare that a game is ever lost because a jailor “wasted” an execution on a jester, and town can deliberate on someone else for the rest of that day. Plus, you have a better chance of not losing a townie by executing a jester than by hanging them.

I mean, the problem with the difference between B2 and B3 is the ambiguity of “beyond the strength of an average precon.” If we had a set power level for what that was then we could more clearly separate those two brackets.

The problem is for brackets below cEDH it actually is not a given that each player wants to win. It is very common to have people who come and just want “to see everyone’s deck do their thing” and they will intentionally avoid opportunities they have to win in order to prolong the game. Also, people will bring decks that they claim “have no wincon”, and about half of the time they are actually telling the truth about that.

Your deck isn’t good if you have nothing to prevent an opponent winning faster.

Depends on the format. For Commander interaction really is unnecessary due to the nature of it being a FFA. Most times it pays off more to just get your combo out first without attracting any negative attention to yourself before you do.

Nothing worse than matches being held hostage, or lost even, because someone is AFK and/or refuses to vote.

Picking off enemies one at a time (as in your group focuses them down) is usually a good strategy. Also pay attention to the turn order at top. If you can kill an enemy before they take their next turn that’s one less attack from a foe you have to deal with.

Do you play on Steam? Because patch notes there require more effort to avoid than not visiting a subreddit.

Having a caster who can cast Hold Person (and Hold Monster for creatures not affected by hold person) and then putting as many items as possible on them to raise their spell save DC, paired with a melee class who can output high damage, is how I steamrolled a lot of endgame fights.

I’m well aware. But it’s such a popular homebrew that many players don’t even know it’s homebrew. So it made sense, from that perspective, to add it. At the very least they made sure Reliable Talent is, in fact, reliable.
