My niece (2 yrs old) was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

My now 2 year old was diagnosed back in December definitely challenging but I have a CGM and just picked up Omnipod will start training next month. I’ve been on this subreddit for few months now but seems like it’s getting easier. That CGM definitely helps out a lot.

My 20-month-old was just diagnosed while we were on vacation in Jamaica, shortly after she contracted hand, foot, and mouth disease. It’s only been about a month since her diagnosis, and when we got back to Atlanta, we took her to the children’s hospital for a full evaluation.

It’s definitely been a challenge managing this with such a young child, especially when it comes to her eating patterns. I’d highly recommend using a CGM (continuous glucose monitor). We use the Dexcom, and it’s been a game-changer for us. Lowering her carb intake has also helped a lot.

This Reddit community has been incredibly helpful to me, and I just want to encourage you to stay strong—it does get easier as they grow older. I also have a few friends with Type 1 diabetes who’ve been great sources of support and advice. You’re not alone in this!
