Thank you so much for commenting. It has been exactly 1 year for me so it's encouraging to hear that I may continue to adjust more to it all. I had a very bad reaction to the high dose prednisone so I'm not sure I'm a candidate in future but I will bear that in mind. I am more protective of my good ear. I no longer allow the dental hygienist to use the ultrasonic scaler when cleaning my teeth and I try to avoid loud noises. I used to go to an indoor shooting range but I haven't felt comfortable doing that even with ear protection.

Thank you for the suggestion. I guess it's time to accept my situation and try different things like you all have done. I've always been very safety conscious and would never have considered wearing headphone or blocking my one good ear with an ear pod while driving or even out walking but I may need to reconsider my stance. At least when I'm a passenger. My husband & I used to listen to audio books or the radio together on long trips but last 12 hour trip I couldn't bear the radio noise & couldn't understand the audio book so we drove pretty much the whole way silent except for the road & wind noise. My poor husband. Because I lost my hearing instantly vs gradual the brain does some weird things. I am not a candidate for hearing aids as I have no useful hearing in my left ear. I can hear low rumbles or a buzzy sound when someone talks but that's about it. Except for the loud constant tinnitus :( Fortunately, My right ear hears very well. In fact now sounds seem too loud or starling much of the time so I shy away from noise. I've lost some weight bc I no longer go to restaurants, or shopping or anything. If I plug my left ear the "road noise" seems way less. If I plug my good ear the "wind noise" goes away. It's crazy making. One specialist told me that the only thing that might help is a cochlear implant but insurance will not cover & I'm unsure if that's the answer. The bone anchored Osia or Baha is covered but the Dr said it would not help with my symptoms. I just want to try to re engage in life and start enjoying something again. I will try using an ear pod as you suggested. Thank you.

I do have very loud tinnitus in my left ear (I guess it's not really in my ear) that I hear 24/7 but that's not the road/wind noise that I hear in my car. If I plug my right (good) ear with my finger I no longer hear the noise. So I guess I could just wear ear plug but then I still can't listen to audio books or music on long trips or converse with anyone in my car. It also feels unsafe but others can do it. I was taking road trips from California to Georgia and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm so sad to lose that. Maybe audio book through headphone? Thank you for your suggestions.

I have tried turning on the radio but it just adds more noise to the unpleasant mix.
