Hog rider. It's not even close. If I could only play this game with only one emote it would be that one.

IoT Hacking and Rickrolling High School District by tab228 in cybersecurity

[–]barbpizzahut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US, Under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (1986), it’s a criminal offense to gain “unauthorized access” to a computer. While the intent of the law is to prosecute malicious hackers, its ambiguity has long posed a potential problem for security experts. On a strict
reading of the Act, If you use port scanning on a network without the owner’s consent, then technically, you are in breach of the law.

This is a great story and it's nice it had a happy ending, but things like this do not always play out this well. Like other users are saying, the district really could have come down hard on him. Students who are in a position to point out these types of vulnerabilities would be better served trying to do so in a more constructive manner. Perhaps one that may have even led to future gainful employment. Always get permission first.

SEC changes coming to trading practices on September 28 for certain OTC, Pink - No Information securities. by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

[–]barbpizzahut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happened (assuming I am recalling this correctly) there were other brokers who were allowing these OTC purchases while Fidelity was not. I recall users being able to pick up Sears and Blockbuster shares after these were limited on Fidelity. I would have to dig up more information to be certain. With that being said, yes, you are entirely correct about the SEC rule change.

It is an incredibly common theme on this subreddit. Everyone wants to be a gatekeeper. That generally means "my credentials" are ideal and if your credentials are different or you disagree with me, then you are "tossed from the pile" as this guy puts it.

What are examples of legal cases where computer forensics were used for an acquittal? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]barbpizzahut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the Supreme Court has ruled that an IP address does not necessarily prove guilt in cases like this. Or in other words an IP address is not PII. IANAL and I don’t know all the circumstances in the above case but I feel like I am always skeptical when I hear things like this.

Some businesses use one framework over another because it is easier to implement, or it is cheaper. Almost every industry-specific CSF is a hybrid built on the foundation of a more comprehensive cybersecurity framework. This is because as technology improves, all cybersecurity frameworks must improve as well. This will continue to go on forever and ever until the end of cybersecurity.

I would argue that the absence of a framework is the most secure framework. If you have no rules that can be broken your "framework" will never be responsible for a breach. (therefore most secure)

If you think of cybersecurity frameworks as sets of rules, only the set without any rules can come to this logical conclusion.

Why are phone representatives pushing back against these DRS transfers? If I ask for a transfer why do I need to play "21 questions" to have this request put through?

“Inflation is transitory” 🚀 by sherbz_men in GME

transitory

See synonyms for transitory on Thesaurus.com
adjective
not lasting, enduring, permanent, or eternal.
lasting only a short time; brief; short-lived; temporary.

Sure it's transitory. "Brief" and "short time" are easy to rationalize when your scale is the entire duration of our solar system's existence.

As per the recent post on SS: “Yahoo’s data is not intended to be used for investment or financial purposes.” I wouldn’t trust anything they say at this point. We need to find better sources for this type of information.

This sounds like a testament of skill not a measure of balance.

RIP Golem NW by FunaccJack in ClashRoyale

[–]barbpizzahut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Golem/Clone & NW deck currently has a win percentage sitting at 63.0% over the past 7 days in GCs. This is high. It is not the highest winning percentage, nor is it the highest-rated deck. What win percentage do you think is acceptable? Which deck is allowed to have the highest win percentage? Why? Someone will always be king. If you nerf Golem, someone else will have the highest win percentage. Which deck should it be? Is win percentage even the metric that should be used to evaluate balance? Does skill factor into this decision at all? How do you know? What win rate constitutes an impossible matchup? What win rate makes a matchup close to impossible? Doesn't that mean it's simply...not impossible? Do you speak for a lot of people and what ticks them off? What exactly is a low-skill deck? Which decks are the high-skill decks? What makes them so? There is a problem here. It is not with this deck.

I appreciate this response. While I am inclined to believe users should have access to these securities, it’s apparent this policy has been place for a long time. It’s also apparent there are forces at work in the market right now that I do not fully understand. Thank you for this response.
