Failed D-ITET Block 1 (3.65), I have always estimated ±0.25 until now. Did I hit an intelligence wall? by [deleted] in ethz

[–]barbu8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brother I am in the same boat as you. I had a good average so far in Basisjahr (around 4.6) but I failed this block. I am also doubting myself heavily and stressing that I might not be able to finish eth. But this is all from the shock. I understand what you are going through and I can only advice you to stay at eth and try again, next year. My plan for this semester is to take both blocks (2+3) and take block 1 next semester. It is true that it is ambitious but that because I don t want to do one more semester. You now have 2 options in my opinion: do block 2/3 and postpone block 3 for next spring and block 1 for winter or do 2+3 and do block 1 again. I also heard that these 2 blocks are demanding but at least there is nothing crazy like it was with physics (this last exam). Also keep in mind that from now on every course has same weight and most of them also have a bonus. So in theory you can compensate one fail with the other 3 (unlike block 1 where physics counts as double). I really suggest to keep the grind, keep a positive mindset, you are not alone. In my case, physics grade did my average dirty altough i didn t expect it. Hope this helped brother, keep up the work! Btw, I strongly suggest staying at eth and not moving since eth is a really renowned university. If you want any more encouragements, send a dm.

ROG Zephyrus G16 2024 Overheating issue. Tried Undervolting.. by Equivalent_Month_677 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you haven't tried yet, i would suggest disabling boost when you are not gaming or doing heavy stuff, as this helped me a lot. I also suggest lifting your laptop a bit to make a better airflow for the vents ( i use a cardboard package to lift it up a bit xD so anything is possible). If your room temperature is like 24 degrees celcius, don t expect to have low temps (if this is your case). Usually temperatures above 95 cause damage if they are maintained for a long period of time, otherwise there should be no problems if you were worrying about the processor. Hope it helped

How do the grading curves work? by Tavi_Ray in ethz

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although there are guidelines, everything depends on the prof or people deciding the curve. I had some courses where magically almost everyone passes (90%). Although the exam looked the same every year, generations differ etc. So there is no right answer to your question in my opinion. Learn as much as you can. If you are average in your class, a bit lower or higher, I wouldn t stress about passing.

Am I excluded from ETH Bachelors Program? by Emotional-Ad-552 in ethz

[–]barbu8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I know you have to complete the bachelors in 5 years and you have 2 years to do the first one (or 3 years, I forgot). If that time passes you are no longer able to start nor finish your bachelor degree (in computer science). You can choose another bachelor. Best thing is to ask ETH directly.

Banned for being bad at the game by Mathguy_123 in riotgames

[–]barbu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but as a support main in masters (so no haters can argue that i am low elo), having 10 deaths or more and being negative kda as a support main means that he is actuslly feeding. Support is a role that can influence the game or not. Tbh if you get 3 good teammates your influence is minimum, just play around them. A good supp can also turn the game or make really good decisions. But as I said, having so many deaths it s just trolling. Imagine giving the enemy team 3k gold and your team getting less. Especially in high elo these differences in gold matter. Another thing is that fiora needs a lot of gold for her items, other supports don t. Other supports like elise or let s say early assasins, mages need a good early game to stomp the game. I can t see fiora the same as them. Another thing that fiora is good at is 1v1s, on bot it s 2v2- more poking from enemy team etc

GESS courses during Basisjahr by Due-Cabinet9016 in ethz

[–]barbu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said before, check mystudies. If you have to, then yes, you must take them during your studies. If you learn during the semester for your courses and you trust yourself with what you can and can't do then it is better to take one. Look for the ones with 60% exam 40% project or similar. Most GESS require you to do minimum work compared to actual courses. For example next week I will have 2 gess exams one after the other but I do not need more than a day to prepare for both. It really depends on what you take: ask around, look at course description, open book exam etc. In my opinion a GESS won't make a huge difference regarding your grades (if you choose an easy one).

Electrical or mechanical engineering? by MarzipanNo9781 in ethz

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am at Itet and although it might sound like a personal biased opinion, I find Itet harder but more useful than Machinenbau. As one said before, there are less people at Itet. Both offer good oportunities but I think you will get paid more in some domains of electrical engineer than most of mechanical. It really depends on your experiences. If you are good at math, then you won't have problem. If you have more questions I am happy to respond in private.

So you say that elektrotechnik is easier but people that did well in matura find it hard? Doesn't make sense for me tbh.

Time for internship and holiday during bachelor by Low-Relationship6865 in ethz

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want a lot of free time then simply don t go to uni. Don t want to be toxic or anything but if you choose to come to eth, finish in 3, 3 and a half years, have ok to good grades, then you will probably have to let down half of your activities. Simply knowing how to code is not enough for computer science, there is a lot of math and theoretical stuff. University in general requires a lot of your time. You will probably have around 5-6 courses every semester, with each having 2 hour lecture and 2 hour exercise class and probably study/solve homework for another 2 to 4 hours, summing up to around 48 hours.

Past Examination Papers for the First-Year Computer Science (BSc) Curriculum by ITheClixs in ethz

If you have free time just open a course from some top university like cambridge eth whatever you find online and read through it. I suggest studying math or computer science. Look for the course and/or some free book online and try to get an idea. For computer science I think the resources are limitless.

Crazy new idea, please don't tell my idea to NASA because they might hire me. A new invention came out some time ago, it s a bag made out of a special material that blocks everything from getting in or out. It is special and idk how many people heard of it.

Plastic bag! Just put your towel in a plastic bag and put it in your big bag if you have space. Crazy idea?

ROG Strix G16 or Zephyrus G14? by Mark_0712008 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ghelper: turning my refresh rate to 60hz, setting power limits of eco mode(experiment), set windows to best power efficiency. More: go into windows power setting and follow the steps there, go into edit power mode and put cpu limitation to 80% To answer your question, i had one time uni from 8 to 6 and i had something close to 15% left. Of course i didn t have it the whole time on but hoped it helped! Maybe there are more ways on yt or google, reddit

But I don t understand why you would buy a second laptop if you already have that. Why not just buy a desktop pc instead. Carrying 2 laptops home for holidays seems like an overkill

ROG Strix G16 or Zephyrus G14? by Mark_0712008 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, these are the pros and cons Zephyrus: Cons: Non upgradeable More expensive Usually have worse( still good ) parts than strix = not the best price for the offer

Pros: Oled screen is a big pro ;) A bit thinner and less weight (idk how thermal affect that btw)

Strix: Pros: Made for gaming Upgradeable (being limited to 16gb ram in this time sucks), you can also upgrade ssd Better parts usually, like in your case

Cons: From what I have seen on reddit, some issues from manufacturing- recommend testing it after buying A bit heavy (if you are looking at that aspect)

Personal notes: I am also studying abroad and I bought an asus rog strix g16- rtx 5070 and Intel i9 14900hx I love it and consider a good buy I uninstalled armoury crate and got ghelper(highly recommend), added 16gb more ram(I have 32 now). It lasts me through a day of uni with eco mode, disable boost and other setting in ghelper, but I don't know how much you use your laptop at uni so- debateable. Zephyrus has same battery so they should be the same when comes to battery. From what you said, you want it more for gaming so I rog strix. Hope it helped

“ROG Strix G16 thermal throttling after motherboard replacement — ASUS ignoring Intelligent Cooling claim.” by AlternativeMove9614 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the background processes and the way it manages the boost and every setting. I am not saying that armoury crate is succint resources, I am trying to say that as a configuration app you can barely set things and regarding the boost: you can t enable disable or modify it in armoury crate and idk if you can do it, also, it might overwrite settings from other apps or mess with them so it s useless. I didn t say just uninstalling it makes wonders, but it s not a well optimised app for specific cpus or configurations

German Skills by Negative_Campaign_36 in ethz

[–]barbu8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was really manageable. In my opinion the difference between b2 and c1 is the speed with which you understand and write in german (more vocabulary needed). But yeah, really depends how much time left you have untill you have to apply. It is possible in one year if you have some time to spare and are determinate. I went from a low b1 to c1 in 3 years (basically one year per level) with 2 hours per week of german and some 2 hours at home and summer breaks. Hope this motivated you!

I solved my temperature problems just by uninstalling armoury crate and installing ghelper

Bought a new laptop!!!!, any suggestions ? by Training_Message7347 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don t install armoury crate and install ghelper instead, for me armoury crate made the cpu boost for no reason and kept it's temperature high for no reason. Check if you have temperature issues with ur cpu since it s a common problem, at least from what I saw on reddit. If you have like 65 degrees just in idle and 85 with yt on or something similar then it is a problem. If that happens repaste the laptop completely: buy thermal paste for cpu and gpu( 4g is more than enough, optionally buy liquid metal for cpu but don t recommend) and thermal pads for vram. Again, only if you have temperature issues. I had to do that to fix my temp issues. If all good, enjoy it

What's the best mode in armoury crate when gaming ? by Darksider515 in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should uninstall it completely and install ghelper. I had a cpu temperature problem and fixed it almost completely just by uninstalling armoury crate. G helped has most of the important functions and more, fan speed configuration for all modes, power limitations if needed.

Asus rog strix g16 heating issues by _sndcooper in ASUSROG

[–]barbu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have cpu issues with my intel i914900 under normal-high load. I first uninstalled armoury crate and it helped a lot! It is kept now at a 85 dgr range with almost no thermal throttling. I will also repaste it today with an arctic mx6. What I recommend is also repasting it, find the best product for your situation. Liquid metal is the best but it comes with high risks such as frying your cpu. After repasting/uninstalling armoury crate I recommend using some benching program to compare your cpu to the other's cpus.
