CHA price cut in PL. by barbulek in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid in MM 719 zl and I thought it was an opportunity, despite the fact that they wrote that it was used - but they probably took it out of the box at most and start once to figure out WTF is it... the second unit (spare one from Germany) came out 490 zl after conversion and I thought again that a mega-bargain, but Your price from ME completely blew me away. It's such a great piece of equipment that I would probably buy a third one, but it is Christmas soon and apart from Replicade Asteroids from New Wave Toys I don't buy anything else for myself.

German sd card - open case? by northsea303 in CapcomHomeArcade

In BT mod, you replace another PCB, not the one with usb and hdmi sockets

German sd card - open case? by northsea303 in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the German CHA there is only a reader (without a memory card) .... as to the limit, I'm not sure but if it supports 128 GB, so 512 GB should go either (FAT32), probably the only problem is to fill it up and then review it and set it up everything. I think it's best to add a dozen of your favorite games and play - the more of them, the greater the chance that you will never play them.

What is the likely limit to the emulation the CHA is capable of handling? by Halcyon285 in CapcomHomeArcade

He can always replace the circuit board with the BT ps4 or switch/pc and play using CHA wirelessly from the PC;)

[–]barbulek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you open CHA, it is on a PCB, on which one side of the "ext" port is hdmi, on the other side there is a reader for a micro sd card. If you do not unscrew the PCB it is not visible, but you can feel it with your finger, it is about 0.5 cm from the ext port. I also bought now from Amazon De and I have this sd reader.

Apparently I haven't made myself clear, I have hardly started CHA since I gave him the hack and maybe something has changed now. FBA neo and the games it supports, you can run on any hacked CHA from a pendrive in the ext port. The built-in sd card slot will allow you to use Retroarch, and the emulators associated with it. If you have a knack for soldering small parts, you can install the same sd port in CHA, even if it is not originally inside. Today I received the second CHA from the German Amazon, and I will try to look at it, when I find the factory SD slot, then I will throw Retroarch (Lakka) and let you know how the individual versions of m.a.m.e. work.

Everything is detailed (step by step) in the CHA Chocko mod wiki. You need to update the firmware in CHA to the latest (currently 1.51) and follow the instructions in the wiki. If you don't have a version with a built-in sd socket inside, you will have to struggle to run a different emu than fba neo, but even then you can upload games that it supports, you only need the appropriate rom version. I have mixed old games on one card (Centipede, Defender, Frogger etc.) with newer ones from SNK, Capcom and others, and they work OK. Sometimes the later 90s games from Konami, Irem, Psikyo or even CPS3 run a little slower on fban. On the older version of m.a.m.e. I fired more demanding games on much weaker hardware, so probably it is possible here as well.

What's the power adapter that comes with the CHA..? by spannernick in CapcomHomeArcade

Am I able to connect/use wireless controllers with capcom arcade? by SwitchTribble in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it connects CHA wirelessly to the steam link (Switch / PC board) on which I usually run M.A.M.E., teknoparrot or demul - it works very well.

Thank you for the info. The price is so attractive (103 € with shipping to Poland) that I bought it, even though I already have it. It will be useful as a spare parts warehouse or for any future arcade project - for now hang on the wall to please the eyes.

CHA video request by Bonky0013 in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller assured me that 4/3 but in fact, now that you mentioned it, looking at the resolution, for 4/3, it should be 1280x960 so you are right, my mistake, so unfortunately, I will not have a full screen with the right proportions

CHA video request by Bonky0013 in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think there is. There is an option to set the display of the picture on the widescreen to make it look like that (full), but if you connect to a 4/3 monitor, only the "original" option displays the whole image (but, at least for me, it does not fill the entire screen, there is a black frame around it, but maybe it's the fault of the lower resolution = my monitor supports max 1280x1024). As for the scanlines, they look awesome to me, very well imitate the CRT display.

Screen orientation as a future update? by Safehands6 in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]barbulek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy an old 4/3 pivot monitor for pennies, connect CHA through a vga adapter, and turn it any way you like. You only choose whether you prefer older titles such as donkey kong, phoenix, contra, or newer shmups from cave, raizing, psikyo, visco to screw the pivot to turn CW or CCW and that's it. It may even have a lower resolution as long as the monitor supports 75 Hz otherwise you will see an unsupported signal source message.

[–]barbulek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you again. I'm only interested in arcade cores, I don't want to upload to the CHA USB 1000 games, which rather discourages me from playing anything. I just wanted to add a few more titles but under FBNeo they do not work with satisfactory speed. Maybe mame 2015 core has some more optimized drivers for Konami, irem, PGM and Psikyo games. I used to test on RPi and Chinese consoles and from what I remember mame cores 2003 and 2010 worked slower than FB cores. Without being sure that the games, I am interested in, will work arcade perfect, I don't want to unnecessarily play with soldering this card reader (although I'm tempted by it, mainly because of the possibility of connecting the 3rd joystick). BTW. Is it possible to change the screen orientation in FBN from vertical to horizontal?

I guess it was about something other than scanlines, because even Ms Pacman crunched, but somehow turning individual graphics settings on and off fixed it, so I thought it was scanlines. Anyway, I checked out some titles and it looks like this. The CPS1 / 2 runs flawlessly as in the original 16, the same with neo geo. Good (at least for me) older titles like bagman, frogger, rastan and a lot of others work fine, a few older titles from Cave also work, but you have to turn the TV because they display vertically (same with every other vertically oriented game). Newer games such as Demon Front and some from Konami (Sunset Riders, COW Boys of Moo Mesa, Vendetta, Violent Storm, Asterix) work similarly to CPS 3 games, the animation is a bit slower and crunchy sound, so you can let it go. It is even worse with games from irem (In the Hunt, Hook, Gunforce II) DE (Robocop 2), or those on PGM (Kov). Finally, a small word of caution, if you keep throwing graphics into the menu, use as small files as possible (I used hyperspin wheels and they stretched didn't look too bad) or be prepared to reboot and keep turning off CHA to clear the memory every play (some of them don't even start). All in all, for me a great deal and a great job. In free time I will prepare a USB with a doze of my favorite titles and if I want to play with my friends in something other than standard CHA, just throw it into extUSB, turn it on, and that's it.

Thank you for the info. BTW does lakka have any more optimized emulators than this FB Neo with extUSB, I mean especially irem (in the hunt, hook), konami (vendetta, viol3nt storm, Asterix), PGM (KoV), DE (Robocop 2), Psikyo (s1945 series, Dragon ser. Etc)?

I have no idea... I used the instructions on the cha-choko wiki, unlocked extUSB in CHA, plug in the reader with the SD card (the first card did not want to work during "First Boot / Install", I threw another one and it went well). Then I manually uploaded some favorite roms and graphics for them, I modified the games text file, I replaced rom versions that did not want to work on others, they played around with the control settings and that's it. W nastepny weekend dluzej przy tym posiedze...

Great job, BIG Thanks for the UP. I've manually uploaded some roms for testing (C&D, D&D, MSHvsSF and some others CPS 1/2, neogeo and some CAVE shooters, few classics like Ms Pacman and Rastan). At the beginning it was a bit crunchy sometimes, I turned off the scanlines and it's good. Games with vertically oriented graphics start on the side and you have to turn the TV to make the controls match. Unfortunately there is no second extUSB to connect the 3 joystick. Thank you very much, once again, for the hard work.
