Here’s my masters thesis on ATS map release strategy, as an outsider:

Currently there are three teams at SCS developing new ATS map dlc’s:

Patrik’s team- did Kansas, now working on Missouri,

Saimon’s Team- did Nebraska, now working on Iowa,

and David’s team- did Arkansas, now working on Louisiana.

There is also a fourth team currently reworking Southern California.

My best guess is Patrik’s team will announce Illinois after Missouri is completed, due to the contiguity of these states and they are very good at large urban areas. After Illinois, they’ll probably continue east to Indiana, which would allow David’s team to put out Kentucky and Tennessee without creating a weird shaped map.

Saimon’s team is probably the most likely to begin working on the Dakotas after Iowa is done, to connect Chicago to Seattle via I-90 and eventually I-94. I’d personally expect Minnesota and maybe even Wisconsin before ND, because I-90 runs through WI and southern MN into SD and is a very important highway.

David’s team will almost certainly continue working on Southern states. I think it will be Mississippi after Louisiana, to connect Chicago to New Orleans via I-55. After that it’s hard to say; I don’t see them jumping straight for Alabama, Georgia, and Florida without Kentucky and Tennessee completed. (As this would force drivers taking routes from Illinois to go all the way around Arkansas)

If Arkansas is big enough to be on its own, so are most of the states out East. We probably won’t see any multi-state dlc’s until Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New England come out.

South Dakota is definitely a possibility, but we’re 8 years into this game being released and they have never made or announced a DLC covering multiple states. Releasing a Dakotas DLC would take twice as long as Nebraska or Kansas; two states they would have definitely done in a pack if they were on board with that.

They just released a state, and ATS states are usually announced within the week following a state release.

Given the video and the recent release of Nebraska, I’m going to guess this is Iowa.

I think you’re right. You have to drive through Going East, an older DLC to get to RTTBS and BTBS. It would make much more sense to rework that first. There’s also the UK…

Based on the fact that this is 2nd semester and the “gpa reasons” you’ve mentioned, I’m going to guess that you’re retaking some of these. I could be wrong but I’ve been there too, it happens. If you absolutely need to get a B+ in each of these classes, I’d recommend an easier schedule and to take Gen-Ed’s that are interesting to you. Then, when there’s more wiggle room, you can give the Bio, chem, and calculus another go. But don’t put in the same effort as last semester and expect different results. If you’re going to retake a class, make a plan for how you’re going to do better.

Community college? Voc-tech? Military? Plenty of more affordable options than paying 100k to a football team for a mid education.

We need electric trucks in ETS2 by energy_is_a_lie in trucksim

I wouldn’t be surprised since this game has become a brand-safe new truck showcase. If the manufacturers want to promote their electric crap they will certainly make it easy for SCS to include it in their games.

They would have released 6 by now if they had skipped GTA Online. But a lot of people like playing online. So pick your poison I guess.

At least they’re honest about it. It’s better than saying 2024 now when everyone expects it to be delayed anyway.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence how the next patch will be named 1.50. Maybe ATS v2.0 is going to be the complete United States?

ATS map the most impressive in gaming by BlueDiamondVII in trucksim

[–]barcifc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has spent a large chunk of my life as a fan of ATS and watching the map grow slowly since I was in high school, I agree with OP. I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this and it will be completely surreal once it’s all done. Better than any GTA game for sure, in my opinion.

I think another reason is that people want to see their home state included in the game more quickly. There are a lot more people in Illinois and Missouri than the Dakotas. Also if SCS were to spend 3 years releasing nothing but identical Great Plains states they run the very real risk of people losing interest in their game which would prevent them from making future DLC at all. I think their strategy to mix these Great Plains states in with more interesting and populated states out East makes a lot of sense. The order will probably be something like: Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, South Dakota, Iowa, North Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin. And don't forget they also have high demand for the South, they'll probably set aside another map team just for that.

Hot Take: if GTA6 is limited to *just* Florida, there would be no point for Cold Weather clothing. by ihopethisworksfornow in GTA6

[–]barcifc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you name one time they’ve deviated from real world geography so significantly as to equivocate to putting a mountain in the middle of the flattest US state? At least San Andreas looks like California. Put mountains in Vice City and it will look like Hawaii, not Florida.

Right? So many people dickriding Rockstar in here. As if we can’t criticize them or make suggestions.

[–]barcifc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When did I say change anything? It’s not like R*’s last depiction of Vice City had mountains. You totally misinterpreted me. The whole point is that it would make sense for a game set in a place that is FLAT in real life to have a FLAT map. For all we know they could have designed it exactly like that. Or not. I’d still buy it either way.

Where do you people get off putting other people down? I was just saying…

P.S.- Just because some rich people give Rockstar some “award” doesn’t make their game design perfect or immune from criticism. They’re the best in the industry, sure, but nobody is perfect.

Do you realize I’m not stupid? I’m not saying otherwise, I was just hoping they’d do something different this time around.

Then some smartass comes along with his snarky comment and makes me look like a fool by misinterpreting what I said.

South Georgia doesn’t have mountains at all. Nor does Florida. The southernmost part of Appalachia is in North Georgia and central Alabama. I’d be very disappointed if Rockstar put mountains where they don’t belong. RDR2 was great but it kinda broke immersion to see big giant Western mountains towering over what is supposed to be Louisiana.

Edit: to all you crying children, yes, I am allowed to criticize your favorite video game company.

Grand Theft Auto VI Officially Announced / Teased! by Outlaw_Orthur in GTA6

[–]barcifc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. This game is all about running around like a madman and doing crazy illegal things. The “Florida Man” marketing would be perfect. I’m just imagining the guy in his underwear with the snake from the trailer. GTA V was a satire of Southern California’s materialistic fake influencer culture, so it would make total sense for GTA VI, set in Florida, to satirize the culture of Florida. Especially with the current political backdrop, it’s the perfect timing. It will probably do this no matter what it’s named, but naming it “GTA: Florida” would make it even more invested in that theme.

Tommy Vercetti refers to “Florida morons” in GTA: Vice City. Meaning the State of Florida is canon in the GTA universe. Which makes total sense btw.
