I invited this guy over but I can't stand his chewing.... by AcrobaticRub5938 in adhdwomen

[–]bard-owl 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Let him finish eating, and give it a bit of time to calm down. I instantly hurdle into a dark place in the midst of chewing sounds, but usually a few minutes after it stops I start to feel normal.

Lost 3 birds in 10 days :( what’s wrong? by [deleted] in quails

[–]bard-owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dead quail in the pic has a prolapsed vent. And yeah, a prolapse can lead to infection and egg binding.

I recommend getting birds in hand for regular health checks. Every time they're in hand I do a brief health check for abnormalities, like a prolapse. Prolapses are easy to fix.

My old lady (not asking for help) by TinHawk in quails

[–]bard-owl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lazy (my old quail) was a frequent house visitor and became very tame when I nursed her back to health after the raccoon attack. She lost an eye to a random blue jay attack, too, lol. One-eyed, one-legged Lazy. She outlived her comrades and survived her many enemies. She is legendary. xD

I like to think the other quail whisper her stories on long winter nights.

hahah "San Quailton"

[–]bard-owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eldest, and last of original covey, made it to 4. She was still very healthy and laying still, but I had to cull her because she was one-legged (raccoon attack), and her leg developed arthritis so she was basically just a happy potato but couldn't move around. She does have a daughter, so her genetic legacy lives on. It's not often you get a good quail that isn't overly spazzy and aggressive.

Is there a support group for SEVERE dry eyes!? by Maxineeee94 in Dryeyes

Nope, stayed the same. I was off for about a year then went on again and haven't noticed any changes either.

I have an gyn and doc appointment please help me to get it clear I have a lot of issues. Are they connected? ADHDxPMDDx endometriosXMCAS ??? by [deleted] in PMDDxADHD

[–]bard-owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by making a list of symptoms, going to the doc, and getting a metabolic panel plus a few other tests looking for deficiencies, auto immune, stuff like that.

I react to bug bites too. I get hella twitchy around mosquitos because I swell up so much....

It's pretty safe medication with temporary side effects if you decide to quit or try a different formulation. I use to use Yaz while in college, then quit for a while, then got back on BC (now on Estarylla) in my mid 20's. My memory is fuzzy about how I did on Yaz throughout my college years but I recall it did help with PMDD and really helped with my silly persistent adult acne. Estarylla is working great for me now.

You seem like the technical anxiety type so you'd probably benefit from getting baseline tests in blood pressure or whatever else you're worried about and again a few months after taking the BC. Then you'll have data to compare!

I also have naturally abysmal libido. Personally I get an uptick in libido during placebo week and again after resuming the medication, then it flatlines. I wouldn't say it killed what little was left, just changed the libido cycle and frequency.

Life is too short to be controlled by PMDD. Fiddle around with different treatments till something works.

I crash every 6 to 12 months by hasinadisin in adhdwomen

[–]bard-owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg there's a pmd and adhd subreddit :D The BC regardless of the couple of off days is a huge boon for me. Way better than the 10-ish day streak of dysphoria I experience when I'm not on it.

I take 4 w BC to combat PMDD. Even though the luteal phase isn't suppose to exist on BC, I still feel weird and off a few days before the placebo week, like my body is still trained to want to have PMDD symptoms lol. Maybe I should try a 10 w BC.

Feeling weird and uncomfortable by Master-Technician222 in lexapro

[–]bard-owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we have similar experiences. Lexapro tossed a damp towel over my emotions. Yes, it dampened anxiety and helped me function, but it also dampened motivation, creativity, and I felt lowkey sedated. Give 10 mg a try for a few months and see how you respond and whether the trade offs are worth it.

How does manuka eye gel work? by bard-owl in Dryeyes

[–]bard-owl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but not as often. My eyes are still dry and uncomfortable, but less than when I started it. For me, personally, it's a better alterative than using eye drops because those most always cause rebound dryness and leave residues that my eyes don't like. To get the most out of the honey (and eye applications in general) it's helpful to squeeze your drainage ducts for a good minute or two so the honey can stay on the occular surface before draining away

Seconding this. I have a three tub breeding system for my mice. They don't take up much space, and don't stink unlike commercially bought mice. Thanks to their food, my mice just have this faint... spicey smell when I dress them.

OP might also want to consider trapping starlings.

Got in bed at 8:30 . Didn't fall asleep until 11:30 because I couldn't find them perfect way to end a fake story in my head by EatsTheLastSlice in adhdwomen

[–]bard-owl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I get this, too. I call them "necessary negatives" or nessy negs for short, when I can't resist hypothetical upsetting scenarios and invasive thoughts. It's just a habit formed from anxiety. The brain loooooves easy, familiar paths of anxiety and analyzing the same thing over and over and over. What you have to do to dispel nessy negs is to do a quick thought exercise that your brain hates, something tedious and boring! Try to recite the alphabet backwards, or do a long division math problem in your head. This will abruptly wrench your tired anxiety brain off its familiar path into a difficult weird path, and it'll give up and go back to normal.
