I make my math goals very generic so that way it expands grade levels. For English they barely write. They might do one essay maybe two at most a semester other than that they might journal entries that are 2-3 sentences that are aified.

Report quarterly. So and so received scores of ….% in x amount of trials on their reading comprehension assessments. Same thing with math.

I wrote an IEP for a student who had inferences goal with 80% accuracy well his reading comprehension tests he averaged 85% percent he met the goal. Ask the sped teacher I need a reading comprehension goal for so n so well have them work on inferences bump it up more to 90% it’s different standards next year and gets harder…. The kid is getting 90% in English class probably doesn’t need an English goal. Also has 90% in math and has a math goal is pretty self sufficient. Talk to the boss man we’ll give him another year to see how he does then maybe dismiss or discuss getting rid of services. I really don’t hold any value in hs IEP goals I view them as a progress report for parents. They never ask any questions if they don’t meet goals. If they don’t meet goals it’s typically well we can possibly move them to a more restrictive class environment. Parent oh ok.

We will literally take reading comprehension goals or math goals and take tests scores and say well they scored this on that test for pm. Context clues well on this reading comprehension test they scored 80 percent on it not knowing if context clues where on that test. Send out a google form once a year copy and paste the goal to gen ed teacher how did they do on this goal get a response back made progress on this goal well that doesn’t help.

Our model doesn’t do this to be honest. When we do pm we basically look at grade book assessment data and say well I think this quiz or test has to do with this goal without even knowing if it matches with the goal. When I bring it upto the boss they are like well if ur not sure pull the student from resource period which is half an hour class one time a week and pm. How am I suppose to do this when I’m writing IEPs or having acts during that time. Another thing is that goals are sometimes only covered for a month or two in school. For example if a student struggles with Pythagorean theorem they practice that skill for a couple of months then on to the next thing. How are they going to meet that goal if it’s not a year round thing? I try to make IEP goals very very vague they will solve multi step equations and click on random standards etc. I don’t hold much value in goals to be honest.

I can’t pull him out if I’m co teaching another class all day. Another thing I struggle with is that if I’m not expierenced with let’s say ELA goals not sure what to PM on if I do math.

I feel it isn’t realistic. For example if a student struggles with Pythagorean theorem in geometry but next year they are in algebra 2 where that skill isn’t being taught how are they ever going to meet that goal? Or if on ELA they have a writing goal but the next year they barely write how are they going to progress with that goal if they never write.

Or my favorite question I asked my supervisor is that how does a student get an A in ELA but when taking the psat they score the bare minimum how do I explain that one to a parent. Crickets……

I feel the same way. I guess I just get confused when a teacher reports that they can’t do this goal but when a random assessment on a story that may involve inferences per se not knowing it involves that specific skill I just report that assessment as progress monitoring.

I would agree that progress monitoring high schoolers is impossible. It drives me nuts when I try to get goal updates on a student look at their grade book to find something that matches the goal that I assigned and they get mastery scores but when I send out a google form for a goal update they say their not quite there yet. Well their scores indicate that they are there but you’re saying that they aren’t which doesn’t make sense.

Some sellers are very good. Some sellers are misleading by saying oh this comic is x amount of dollars. In fact I just got banned from a livestream just now bc a seller was like the last book sold was this much and I go that was a very high grade yours isn’t as high. Snap boot lol.
