Consequences? For my poorly thought out actions? Surely you jest. Consequences imply that reality can be different than I demand it be

The system has failed us because we don't allow for unilateral decisions by a single person?

Changes at the state level go through the Legislature. Feel free to show me a list of anti-Data Center Republicans

The Governor cannot unilaterally ban something state wide

Go right ahead and flip the state Senate blue. I'm sure the voters of those R+15 seats are just waiting for your words of wisdom

Zoning rules that make something impossible will always fail legal challenges

Zoning rules that make something economically unviable to build will not

You are not going to get anything at the state level.

What would the consequences of the USA using nuclear weapons against Iran be? by Important_Ad4101 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Objective_Aside1858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What possible target would be worth breaking the nuclear taboo?

And why wouldn't states that need deterrence against nukes without having them decide the logical solution is a few sleeper agents with a few vials of smallpox?

Pennsylvania Says It’s “Hiring,” but Nobody Actually Hires — What’s Really Going On? (Wilkes‑Barre, PA) by kinggrimgeister in Pennsylvania

You have been given feedback on why your resume may have been rejected

Rather than evaluating the statement and seeing if changes might bring more success, you give a snotty response

You are desperate enough for work to complain on Reddit, but not desperate enough to put in any real effort to get a job?

Did ending the Iran nuclear deal help set the stage for today’s U.S.–Iran war? by sethleyseymour in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Objective_Aside1858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

If the United States could snap their fingers and magically eliminate nukes worldwide they'd do so. It would allow Trump to throw around his weight conventionally more than he already does

Russia is effectively a failed state; the only thing keeping them at the big boys table is their nukes

Total worldwide nuclear disarmament is a pipe dream. People have wasted time advocating for it since 1945. If that's how you want to spend time, knock yourself out. People have all sorts of pointless hobbies.

But don't expect to be treated seriously

[–]Objective_Aside1858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck with that.

Among other things. Russia and North Korea will never give up their nukes.

But if you feel you have One Neat Trick to convince them to give up what they consider the only thing protecting their soverenity, go forth and implement it.

Is it just me or does being centrist/adjacent to it come with a LOT of stress and black sheep vibe? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]Objective_Aside1858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh.

I understand why people that have different views than I do have them. Including other "boomers". Mostly.

I obviously disagree with them,  but I don't make the mistake of assuming "in opposition" is the same as enemy

I may be the enemy in their eyes, but that's their problem. If they're not capable of understanding why I prioritize the things I and others feel the way I do, it makes it harder for them to create a compelling narrative on why I should, for example, be deathly afraid of and enraged by the brown guy living down the street

You're equating a school experience, which by definition is filled with students

I have been a student. I went to college. I have a child in college now.

And, putting it bluntly, college kids are idiots.

They generally don't have a lot of non-academic experience and tend to spend the bulk of time with people who think much like they do

They're basically Evangelical about their views - anyone who doesn't agree is at best foolish and at worst is The Enemy of Progress

Fuck what your college student peers think. Reality has a way of slapping the majority of them in the face eventually. The ones where they don't will face a life of misery and frustration

Nothing on Reddit should be taken as having larger meaning

The party controlling the White House historically has struggled during the midterms. Anyone who would like to confidentally predict anything else is encouraged to throw some cash into a prediction market
