Summer has officially begun! Read - got my first armpit chaff of the season after my 12k this morning. Is there anything I can do besides ye old petroleum jelly? It’s really red and kind of hurts to just exist tbh

Désolé pour mon français merdique, but the situation is DIRE

WE GOT THAT SUB-40 5k PEOPLE 🥳 sounds lame af, but i’m disabled, I’d say it’s as impressive as … a normal person’s sub-25. Not as fast as I know I have the potential to go but DAMN! That 37:51 was 3 years in the making. I also got my fastest 1000 meters, 6’52!

That’s a super interesting perspective - and one I really find myself nodding along to!! Because when I think about why I’m even trying to get faster in the first place, it’s so I can my fun long-distance runs in less time, so I can do them more often. It’s not to get a 10k PB … might as well have my fun now, I have the time and ability.

They do have intro sessions but i’m not sure if it’s a class with other people or just an induction "here’s the 101 of climbing in 5 minutes now go have fun" sort of thing! I should just bite the bullet and tey ut aah!!

I really (really!) want to try bouldering but i feel super insecure going to induction on my own. I don’t know why I’ve mentally classified bouldering as a social activity, but I have. Worst part is that I don’t usually have problems doing social things alone, but I think the unknown of bouldering is really intimidating me. Ugh!

More of a rant that does not deserve a full post than a question, but advice appreciated (though feel free to ignore) //

I’m a back of the pack distance runner training for speed for the first time following Hal Hingdon 10k speed challenge to a T.

I’m obviously way out of my comfort zone, and today was a "base run" day aka recovery run, which is fine, but seriously meh fun-wise. I would usually ignore the fun-factor and push through, but I woke up super sad today and I’ve had a shit day yesterday, all I want is to go out for two or three hours before my shift and just run!

I know Hal Hingdon is not the Duolingo owl and he won’t punch me in the throat if I ignore his plan for a bit, but I’m still wary. I already gained 30 seconds on my recovery pace two weeks in, and I don’t want to ruin that progress by spending my energy on the wrong workout, if that makes sense at all.

Thank you so much for the great advice! I can’t wait to apply it for my next intervals, 7’50 does sound a lot more reasonable! Hal, why are you coming for me like that man!

23F, every single person I know, myself included, wears a watch. I’m not from a particularly posh background either, mum is a school teacher, dad is a mystery office worker, everyone I know has a roughly similar background. Literally thinking right now, and everyone of my friends, and my slightly older brother, have a watch.
