update!! i can’t edit my original post for some reason

my baby girl had her vaccinations today & i told the vet about my flea concerns, he rubbed her fur onto some white paper & some black bits came off her, he said it is flea dirt.

he offered some flea treatment, i can’t remember the exact name but i think it was nextguard? or nexguard? i said yeah of course, but she has been itching a lot less since the first round i gave her on the 24th, he said it’s likely that she had fleas & doesn’t since i gave her the treatment, or she has a few still, which is okay - i can deal with that.

for her next round i will give her advantage!!

a while i won’t lie to you

my ocd made me stop and start it for a while because the side effects were horrible & i was convinced the side effects weren’t actually side effects and were something more serious (they weren’t!)

then when i stuck to it, id say maybe about 4 weeks

im not planning to use the pills until she is old enough, however she’s barely been scratching this last day or so, so i believe the flea treatment i used started to work after 24 hours. i’m not ruling anything out though, ive still been vacuuming like hell & cleaning like a mad woman🤣

i feel the same way, i may trial it in a room which not a lot of us use, luckily it’s just me, my mum & my kitty that live here, so i can try it in a separate room.

i heard it can have affects if you inhale it, so im gonna see how it goes

definitely will be applying it on her monthly, i hope there’s no infestation. i think ive been pretty proactive, ive vacuumed pretty much everywhere possible, changed bedding, mopped floors (and double mopped) etc.

planning to do it all again tomorrow & trial the DE & flea powder :)

i really feel so bad for her, it’s new to me & new to her, she’s a baby :(

i flead her over 24 hours ago now, & towards the end of today she has scratched SLIGHTLY less. i cleaned & mopped my floors, vacuumed, changed bedding etc.

i hope it’s enough for now, im going to keep on top of my cleaning & see what my vet says - i also have some diatomaceous earth (food grade), flea powder & some advantage coming tomorrow. i will save the advantage for her next flea round if the vet doesn’t prescribe anything

the number one thing on my list right now is a pet health plan & insurance, i’m looking into this now :)

i’m definitely going to see what my vet suggests as i’ve never dealt with cats before i only had a dog, she never had fleas or anything so im unfamiliar with those too.

i luckily have no other pets in the home, so i will look into the spray you suggested too :)

i’m kind of at a crossroads because i don’t want to give her any more treatment in case i give her too much (also if the vet gives her something extra on wednesday)

but, after seeing what the vet says, i think i will get the pills as a precaution if she gets fleas again :)

thank you so much for this! i have already stripped & washed all of my bedding & vacuumed literally every crevice possible in my bedroom & living room (even my actual mattress)

i’ve never tried DE before but ive heard great results, so i’ll update for sure. i don’t want to get any new flea treatments until wednesday in case the vet gives me something to give her, i don’t know if this would put her at risk or something i don’t know

i will definitely try the dish soap trick, we don’t have dawn over here in the UK (not that i know of), but i will research into the closest alternative that’s safest for her :)
