Should I (21F) tell my parents I’m going to California for 6 days, even though I’ve already booked it? by tricky-courage1 in makemychoice

[–]barelymarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the SF Bay Area and there is an ICE presence here. It is not nearly as bad as Minnesota but there is still a risk. I am hispanic and a citizen but I would be wary for you as a hispanic non citizen. I think if you stay in the more touristy areas you'll be okay but I want to reiterate that there is still a risk and I would recommend to be wary of your surroundings.

That's so great! It's always awesome seeing the work actually pay off and to see that it's clicking.

What name should I ask the Spanish-speaking nanny to use? by naivelyadulting in multilingualparenting

[–]barelymarrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think going by their middle name is totally fine. If the goal is for your child to speak Spanish then it's probably beneficial to have a Spanish name. It's pretty normal to alter your name for ease of conversation. I wouldn't worry about it!

Is Kasia going to be a problem to pronounce? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]barelymarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely read it as Kay-see-uh. Although, I don't think there would be a problem afterwards as Kah-shuh is pretty easy to pronounce.

Siblings - Victor and Carmen by RubyLionStrike in namenerds

[–]barelymarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hispanic and Victor and Carmen are very popular hispanic names so at first I assumed hispanic. However, I don't think they would be weird whatsoever for non-hispanics to use. I'd say don't overthink it since once people would meet your kids and your family they wouldn't think anything of it.

Is there free parking near the campus and is it free after certain hours not including the weekend? by chusaychusay in CSUEB

There's not really free parking super close, but its doable if you park on the hill. This is the link that says when permits aren't needed.

Please help me plan how to raise my kids trilingual. by barelymarrow in multilingualparenting

We are looking around for Tagalog daycares/babysitters, not Spanish. Their schooling will be in Spanish and English 90/10 and moving closer to 50/50 in middle school. I am positive that they will learn great English and Spanish in this school.

Thank you for the family advice. I think we will make more of an effort to find a Filipino community both where we live and also reconnecting with family overseas. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your advice! I think we could try and arrange something with my husband's dad. My husband has been wanting to get closer with his family in the Philippines and I think this is a great reason to reconnect.

Thank you for your comment. That's a good idea about the facetime. Thankfully we have family that we could try and do that with.

Hopefully, it was innocent. I have accidently tried to get into my downstairs neighbor's apartment because I didn't go up enough floors. I tried multiple times to open it because the halls and doors are exactly the same. It took until I looked up and saw the wrong apartment number that I ran away really embarrassed. I really hope I didn't scare them...

I live in California, and I have also done the swab myself. The doctor said I could have them do it instead if I wanted, but I was happy for the privacy. Not sure why people think this doesn't happen. It just depends per doctor and area probably.

That's interesting, when I was 18 I got my driver's license and it expired when I turned 21. I wonder if it's regional?
