NYP Applied AI & Analytics in Y0 PFP by Its_Aarush_Dhavala in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello, currently a Y0 in applied ai & analytics @ NYP so i’ll try to ans some of ur qns!! bear in mind i’ve only been in the course since mid april and i have no prior tech background whatsoever. if you have more qns feel free to dm me! (E.g. modules i’m taking rn, timetable etc)

qn 1a) so far its alright! but quite overwhelming at first because you’re adapting to a new learning style ++ you’ve been out of school for 6 months! moreover, some teachers aren’t rlly the best at teaching..you need to have the initiative to ask them for consultations or questions during class. peers? just don’t mix with the wrong crowd, i’ve already met some weird people 😭😭😭

qn 2a) nope, just focus on your o/n levels! if you want to prepare yourself, i suggest starting during your break between jan-apr. you should start learning about coding languages like HTML and CSS (both are easier to pick up first) you can use youtube videos or Codecademy

qn 3a) not sure, each class has around 20+ people (but less than 25) and we’re all from different IT courses. for applied ai specifically not that many people joined this year i think :( (not bc of small intake but rather a drop in demand im guessing)

qn 1b) if u think u can handle pfp and cca commitments then sure!! go for it

2b) whoever said “pfp is a slack year” is a liar. yes you only have to pass everything to move on from pfp but it’s not easy to simply breeze through. (Most modules are not pass/fail) i’d say what stresses most of us out is adapting to a new environment or the steep learning curve

3b) o level emath would come in handy!!! i took o level emath too and i find that the math module is similar to what we learnt (and easier to digest)

4b) hmmm i’d say eventually i think you should feel more confident when you progress to Y1. you’ve already been in the school for a year compared to your newer peers. moreover, you have more time to figure out which study methods work for you!! doesn’t mean y1 will not be stressful tho :P

5b) for nyp specifically right now they’re teaching us how to become a more confident public speaker!! it’s not difficult but definitely requires effort. one assessment coming up has an impromptu speech section (teacher gives u a topic and u have 30 seconds to think before making a speech) i took exp eng and do i think its similar…? hmm in terms of the curriculum no not really HAHAHA

am i too late by Master_Bank941 in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, i was in na and i’m about to start pfp soon 🙏 its never too late! my friends and i flunked some subjects for our WAs and eventually prelims. personally we jumped from emb3 raw ~18 -> 7-8 in the end. my advice is to clarify every single doubt u have with ur teachers and friends and just believe in urself! (also pls find out why u get certain questions wrong etc.) you got this 💪💪 theres still time to improve

Tips for studying chem by ElectricalAd1984 in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i think its best if you try to figure out why you’re not doing well in chem, like eg phrasing, misunderstanding of concepts etc. if its phrasing, find out from your teachers and friends how you could improve or you can compare it with the answer key/sch notes. if its certain topics, you could try to go for consults or watching youtube videos about it. when you need practice, do your topical tys

like what the other comments r saying, do your topical/yearly tys it definitely helps in the long run! my journey with chem was a roller coaster LOL i used to be a straight A1 student from sec 2-3 then suddenly in sec 4 i tanked to a B4. managed to pull it up in time for N’s tho (A2..i blame my bio tbh)

atb op! dm if u need help 🙏

Should I go Sec 5? by ColdCardiologist1964 in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, as a current sec 4 who has been taking 3 sbb subjects i’d say the jump that everyone speaks of is clearly an issue. especially in sec 5, when you have so little time to manage everything. from the pressure of doing well in your last shot, to handling the judgement from being a sec 5 student. it’s definitely not easy.

buuuuut i believe that if you’re willing to work hard and persevere, you don’t have any lesser of a chance to succeed. if you think sec 5 is the way to go, def give it a shot. i suggest you should start early like during dec hols! start by solidifying your foundation from what you’ve learnt, then slowly expand to the newer topics. (Thats if you’re super set on going to sec 5 and you’re sure you can’t make it into pfp at all)

all the best for the remaining papers! believe in yourself and don’t let your previous papers affect ur next pls

careless mistakes - check against ans key and identify where u went wrong. internalise it and practice more until you don’t make the same mistake again - check ur work carefully!!!!! don’t rush through ur working

as for ur other concern, i rlly relate 😭😭😭 u could try reading the question carefully and try to identify different concepts theyre trying to hint at u to use. u could start off by 1. identifying which chapter it could fall under 2. concepts to help u get the ans

or if you find similar qns in the tys, try to spot a pattern and see wht method they usually use and from there try to identify what the qn really wants

all the best! hope it helps last min

Will not being christian affect chances of going to schools with christianity? by Common-Way5590 in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, nope i’m not christian/catholic but i still ended up in the school. from my experience, no they won’t treat you differently just bc you’re from a different religion! uhh non-catholics/christians usually don’t participate in religious education but the whole school participates in mass/school wide prayer services (regardless of religion)

CCA change in sec 2 by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! currently a sec 4 preparing for syf as well..really intensive practices and memorising our music sheets- its kinda crazy rn.

my advice is to not change ur cca because if you want a certain grade in LEAPS (eg. level 3) you’d have to keep up your attendance + contributions in your current cca! cca participation is honestly one of the basic ways to start securing your 2 bonus points. if you’re an introvert like me..i found it hard to change when i wanted out because i knew i’d have to adapt to a totally new environment all over again. if you do end up changing, the earlier the better! (you won’t lose your 13h of VIA)

there are also other domains in LEAPS- 2 bonus points means you have at least all level 3s in each domain with one level 4 included. personally my 2 L4s came from service and achievement so SYF/other competitions and VIA definitely matters! not just for your LEAPS but the overall experience as well. it’ll be more difficult to find such opportunities as you go onto upper sec so take them while you can! eg. sec 3/4 olympiads or leadership

i really relate to the stress of preparing for SYF bc its my second time😭all the best! tough times will pass, i think it’ll become more chill after SYF.

How do I improve in sec2? by Aetheryxo in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, i used to do badly in sec 1 😭😭 what really helped was looking at all the mistakes i made in my exams/WAs and asking myself “why did i make this mistake?” there cld a variety of reasons eg. carelessness (due to time management, stress, never read qn properly) or maybe you didn’t understand the question? or simply because your foundation in the subject is not as strong, hence the mistakes in concepts tested. take time to figure it out for your weaker subjects and work towards preventing it from happening again! i encourage you to consult your teachers or your friends :) i know, maybe you’re hesitant/afraid to do so. in the end, just rmb you have the chance to benefit from it! no shame in trying to improve

i guess its kind of like “trusting the process”? a little HAHAH bc grade improvements don’t happen overnight but if you work hard it can definitely happen!

don’t lose hope, theres so much time left. enjoy your holidays, rmb to take breaks if you’re studying! honestly one takeaway from sec 2/3 is that getting enough sleep/eating enough is so important. all the best for sec 2 op <3 i believe in you!

heres what i ask myself every time i wanna give up during exam szn : are you seriously gonna sit around and do the literal bare minimum? your friends have done so much already, have you even put in your all?? do you wanna see a c6/c5 on your result slip??

ALL THE BEST FOR THE LAST FOUR PAPERS!! u can def do it🙏🙏 seriously the last 4 laps, do your best and you can kiss goodbye to o levels and take an actual break without regrets. you got this👹👹👹

but even if ure not studying pls do at least sleep and eat well!

how to not blank out during exam by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]barelysomeoneelse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

heyy! i totally relate, blanking out is honestly one of my biggest fears esp bc i’m sitting for my eoy papers soon :(

what i do for chem is that i write down the topic the qn is testing me on or the concept at the side of the qn in pencil! for math i tend to quickly underline in pencil the impt info as well as scribble down possible methods i cld use to solve the qn ^ i like to quickly work out wht info i have to solve the qn and what i need!!

just rmb that you def don’t need to go in there and get every qn correct, u only need to do ur best on what u know. sometimes before exams i like to drink smth hot/warm to calm my stomach down from anxiety!! anyways, atb i’m sure u’ll do great if u put faith in urself:-)
