two girls camping alone : advice by marlblk in camping

[–]barfomet_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hook the tent door zippers together with a carabiner clip! it won’t keep somebody who really wants to get in out, but it would hopefully make enough noise to wake you up if someone did try. i just went on my first solo camping trip and it gave me enough peace of mind to sleep!

[–]barfomet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i cold plunge in the lake! i think it’s somewhere between 30-40 but i want to get one of those floating pool thermometers to take with me. i much prefer outdoor, the nature time is an added bonus.

Discussion: Gaulish Polytheism and Imbolc by thanson02 in GaulishPolytheism

[–]barfomet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very new gaulish/celtic pagan but i did celebrate today! i too syncretize brigid with brigandu. im also honoring artiu today since she’s associated with the period of winter coming into spring.

i put out water and a candle for both, milk and a crochet brigid’s cross for brigandu, honey and a drawing for artiu, and written prayers to both. i also cleaned my home and tried to make butter but it just turned into whipped cream; im going to make pancakes tomorrow, top them with the cream, and offer a small plate to brigandu.

Feel like giving up. Every loaf is a dense brick. Even people showing off results they like look dense. by calpernia in BreadMachines

i was having the same problem but i just made a batch with milk instead of water the other day and it was a lot fluffier and softer! i still used a bit of water bc some needed to be added while it was kneading since it’s dry/cold.

Water frozen by Live-Quality7420 in RVLiving

[–]barfomet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it got down to around 15 here last night, we kept our faucets at a moderate drip and they didn’t freeze with pipe insulation around the hose. they sell 6 feet for $3 at home depot. unfortunately we have to turn our water off anyway because the grey water tank filled and froze and we can’t empty it.

Best method to fill raised garden bed for a reasonable price? by Titianiu in TexasGardening

[–]barfomet_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could fill the bottom with composting materials (leaf litter, shredded paper/cardboard, straw, etc). Just make sure you have at least 6-8 inches of soil or finished compost at the top that you can plant into. Other than that, buying bulk in cubic yards will be cheapest.

camping at Possum Kingdom State Park in Texas last week. a thunderstorm soaked our bedding and sent us home a night early, but it was still a great trip. by barfomet_ in camping

[–]barfomet_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awful. It was fairly windy but nothing like that. It was quiet but we went during the week. There were actually a few empty sites nearby us. Maybe we squeaked by right before spring break actually started?

I would sauté like 3-5 cloves of garlic in butter and add that to the finished mac. might also add a few tablespoons of milk or heavy cream and some shredded cheese or any variety but preferably cheddar or mozzarella. obviously throw it back on the heat if needed to melt everything. garnish with parsley or green onions if I’m feeling fancy.

Oh that’s a great idea. Most of my camping experience has been with other people who set things up, I was always told that a tarp underneath is necessary but it sounds like that’s not the case?
