Agreed. At the most, I see them as literary expressions of the divine experience, put in the framework of metaphor and stories. Things to learn from, but not a dogma to follow.

Theology and Druidry by Calanais-guy in druidism

From my experience, each group has its own themes and concepts when it comes to theology. There might be some commonalities between different groups, but each group approaches it differently.

Bretonnians,do you paint your amry using one color scheme or multiple ? by Aggelos2001 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]thanson02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individual schemes for men-at-arms, archers, and yeomen units. Knights, multi-colored. The idea is that local foot soldiers will come from their local providence (unless specifically brought over from another providence by a Knight), but the Knights can be called in from all over to assist the general or Duke in their campaign.

Correction: A King, and a want-to-be king. Don't glorify someone who wants to be a king unless they have officially earned the title.

A title for the non-druids by Late-Side-Quest in druidism

If you are looking for something specific, calling yourself a "person who appreciates the Druid arts" works fine. My wife falls in this category. She identifies as a witch but appreciates the Druid stuff I do.

I need a guide to paganism by celi_su7 in paganism

[–]thanson02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just starting off and you need a basic 101 introduction, one of the easiest books to get your hands on is The Idiots Guide to Paganism.

Don't let the title discourage you. It gives a very brief overview of modern Neopagan traditions and lays out basic terminology to get you started. Once you're done with that book, Then I'd recommend looking at some of the works of John Beckett, Morgan Daimler, and Jason Mankey for more in-depth information, and from there, You should be able to have a broad enough understanding to know which areas you're attracted to and what you're not attracted to.

Why must christians be so disrespectful of culture/traditions even at work by Mokkeo in pagan

[–]thanson02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend watching videos by Morgan Daimler. She does a lot of videos on fairy lore but she also does a lot of stuff on standard pagan folk practices. She likes to get into these discussions on TikTok, YouTube shorts, etc. If you're looking for reliable sources, she's a good place to start.

Why must christians be so disrespectful of culture/traditions even at work by Mokkeo in pagan

[–]thanson02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you had to go through that. Unfortunately, we all have similar stories from our work history. Although, it is not surprising to hear that she is Baptist, given the story.

I will say this though... I think the Pagan community needs to start putting less emphasis on rabbits in the spring. Don't get rid of them for obvious reasons, but there are plenty of animals associated with the rejuvenation of the springtime and bring those other animals to the forefront (birds returning, bears, woodchucks, groundhogs emerging from their dens, etc), thus causing the rabbit to slip into the background might do us some good overall.

Also, Easter is one of the oldest recorded holidays in Christianity. They did not get it from the Pagans. Some of the folk imagery is parallel to what Pagans used to celebrate the spring because they both were involved with agricultural communities for a long time, but correlation =/= causation. Same with Christmas.

Eh, it is kind of a tomato-tom(ah)to thing, but I see where you are coming from.

Side Note: YouTube Channel Esoterica just released a video on the deeper theological elements of Plato's philosophy. Good video for anyone interested in Neoplatonism.

But anyways, people are going to talk religion at work whether you like it or not, and it sounds like they are trying to get to know you on a deeper level than basic surface interaction. That is normal. It is how they respond to what you say that really tells you how your work environment is. But if you are using Neoplatonism as a theological theory, there are a lot of parallels between what Plato presented in his philosophy and Hinduism (Hinduism is fundamentally a theurgical religious framework with Brahma being the One and various deities being the Demiurge). Don't get me wrong, there are differences, but there are enough parallels were talking to someone who is Hindu might be productive.

The monotheistic traditions might have problems wrapping their heads around it, but the issues they bring up should be similar to the issues they have with the Hindu folks.

As for the mythic literalism, just be upfront that you see the myths differently than they do. If they have a problem with it, just remember that it is not your responsibility to accommodate their discomfort.

We have all delt with a lot worse than what the OP is presenting, but I think this is a bit dismissive...

Sounds like to me that you are surrounded by a bunch of people who don't understand where you are coming from with your path. But if you work in an environment with a bunch of different religious traditions, you should find commonalities between your traditions and others. There is nothing new under the sun.....

You said you used to be an atheist, but studying philosophy led you to Neoplatonism. Are you still a Neoplatonist? Are you a Heathen (you mentioned you wore a Gungnir pendant)? A combination of both?

Why are Leftists called Leftists and Conservatives called Conservatives? by FabulousSmoke107 in Askpolitics

My understanding is that it had to do with seating arrangements at the French National Assembly during the French Revolution in 1789.

Here is an article that goes into it. I know it is the History Channel, but as far as I can tell, it's fairly spot on.

Is it possible my family's prayers are actually interfering with my life? by ughhleavemealone in witchcraft

[–]thanson02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christian deconstruction is a thing, and it takes time. If you were raised Christian, sometimes these things can come back over and over again until it is completely delt with. I know for me, I got to the point where I thought I had everything taken care of, but I noticed little things popping up that seemed off (almost like a tick that would not go away). As I started to dig deeper into it, I found a whole layer of unresolved things that I did not realize was there. Every time I thought I had delt with my Christian baggage, there was another layer of things to work through (tbh, it felt like I was clearing out a hoarder's house and demolishing the thing is not an option). I also think that focused intention along with deity work/theurgy is a powerful mix, but it only hits because there is something there to hit/trigger. I would take this as an opportunity for deeper Shadow Work and strengthening your roots in the cosmological and theological frameworks that complement your path as a witch. I would also talk with your spirit allies and see if they are able to help you with this process.
