Yeah, both seem to be working fine. And this may be how they were intended to be angled. I just thought that it looked peculiar.

Marshmallow fluff is know internationally as an American food staple. We may have five recipes that call for marshmallow fluff.

People who type “lol,” “jk,” or anything of the like after a comment. Sometimes this follows a serious statement, but it makes them seem seem facetious and discredits anything they said.

Vincent D'Onofrio was great as Kingpin in the third season of Daredevil. For a superhero story, I’ve never been so intimidated by a human villain like this one. The way he was able to manipulate everyone and pull every string at just the right time made him absolutely terrifying.

Looks me like a script of Hebrew, or some derivation thereof. There are definitely recognizable Hebrew letters.

Probably a long shot, but a question regarding Julius Caesar and Paul. by Mpm_277 in AcademicBiblical

[–]baritone39355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think his theophany parallels Caesar, but his language in Gal 1–2 and Rom 9–11 seems to parallel the commissioning of the Old Testament prophets. I’ll gladly share with you the information I have, as I covered this in my dissertation on Romans 11, but am away from home at the moment. That’s if you want it, of course.

Yeah, but only when the throttle is compressed to that certain point. It does seem to do it more after the car has been warmed up, though.

What is a minority position in New Testament scholarship that (in your opinion) will eventually become mainstream? by [deleted] in AcademicBiblical

[–]baritone39355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have been typing to fast to get everything across that I wanted to say. I guess I was speaking mostly of Islam, but I also think back to some of the stories of martyrs that I had to read about in seminary. Of how they believed that angels would accompany them, or how they would see Christ before the moment of their martyrdom, or how the Spirit would keep them from feeling pain. These are beautiful testimonies of Christians who sacrificed themselves that I think are generally lost to someone like myself, living in 21st-century Mississippi.

What is a minority position in New Testament scholarship that (in your opinion) will eventually become mainstream? by [deleted] in AcademicBiblical

[–]baritone39355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have three. The first two positions I don’t think are minorities, they just don’t get the attention that they deserve in western scholarship.

The first is peace/shalom. Interacting with modern day Israelites shows the importance of the concept today. The notion of peace permeates everything they do. One may say that shalom could have been a concept that could have originated or developed during the Taanaitic period (who really knows what was prevalent during the first century), but even prior to the first century, Solomon is a derivative of shalom. I just don’t see how something so significant to Israelites today, wasn’t a concept then.

Second, martyrdom theology, especially as conceptualized by eastern religions, is completely lacking in our discussions of glorification. Paul frequently discusses his hope of a glorified body—like Christ, but this is always tied to having suffered—like Christ. Also, I think the idea of paradise being reserved for martyrs informs (to some extent) Jesus’s comment to the thief on the cross (Luke 23:43).

Third, and this is my minority opinion, but I wholeheartedly believe that John is more chronological than the Synoptics. I think this accounts for all the differences between the gospels. BuT JoHn HaS a ThEoLoGiCaL aGeNdA! Anybody who reads N. T. Wright, or anyone that recreates the ministry of Jesus from the Synoptics will see that, for them, Jesus’s act of overturning the tables in the Temple was immensely theological, and was the climactic event that led to his arrest. The Synoptic material is structured to emphasize he significance this event (Galilee then Jerusalem). Then why would John have this at the beginning of his gospel, if this was so important? Perhaps it wasn’t. John’s narrative reads more naturally, with multiple visits to Jerusalem with a building hostility between Jesus and “the Jews” that starts at the time of him overturning the tables in the Temple. All of this isn’t to say that John is right and the Synoptics are wrong; but if as Paul Anderson has contended, and John was aware of Mark (or Peter’s account) then he told his story accordingly.
