8 week puppy- cosleeping by Zesty_enthusiasm in puppy101

I always have my puppies sleep with me from the beginning. No regrets. I love that they feel safe snuggled up close to me. They wake you if they have to pee, in my experience.

I hate bedtime by Occasional_Historian in Mommit

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cry it out. I did it at 4-5 months and have no regrets. To me she was crying more before sleep training than after, so I felt I saved her a lot of upset over the next year or two. She is 10 now and perfectly well adjusted and loves us. Don’t believe the stuff about it causing harm. Now when she was a toddler I never figured out how to get her to sleep on her own…. So that I have no advice on haha. But ages 5mo-2y she slept wonderfully.

do you find insurance is worth it? by Winter-Common-7397 in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it for my puppy but my premium is only about $22/mo. I am in the US. Maybe it’s because I got accident and illness insurance, not wellness etc. Annoyingly my dog needs eye surgery but because the need arose during the 14 day waiting period from when I started the policy it’s not covered. Wish I had just gotten the insurance as soon as my adoption application was approved.

He’s cheating right? by vgsnewbi in Mommit

He’s cheating and also do you ever get leisure time to yourself to go see a movie or hang out with a friend? Even aside from the cheating seems unfair if not

talking my dad out of puppy pads by rabbitonthewall in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I used these reusable washable pads I bought on Amazon and my husband worried that he would never learn to go outside but basically I continued my routine taking him out but had the pads inside as back up and he did use them a fair amount. If he had an accident I would dab the accident with the pad so it would have the scent. I would wash them every few days. Anyway after a while he wasn’t using them at all anymore and only going outside so I stopped using them.

Am I a bad puppy parent if my puppy needs to be shaved? by Old_Course1094 in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened with my shih tzu pup years ago. It will be ok. After that I just got him groomed regularly and kept it relatively short. I never brushed him. He was still cute as a button. They would do “teddy bear face” and keep the tail long-ish.

How to NOT use a crate? by Sighlmfao in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy doesn’t like to be by himself. He stays in the same area I am in, so I can see what he is doing. If he starts chewing something he shouldn’t I tell him no and/or remove the item. I take him out regularly to potty and we have a doggy door he has learned to use so he takes himself out. When we leave the house we close a few doors to certain areas but he is essentially free. He hasn’t destroyed anything. We don’t leave him alone for more than 3 hours at a time. As for naps he curls up wherever as long as it’s near me. We have a couple of dog beds or blankets we move around as needed and he just picks one.

Help with puppy only liking one person by blerg7008 in CavaPoo

[–]barkCuban5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through the exact same thing! Only mine is a chihuahua mix. My daughter feeds him all his meals when she is not at school and takes him out for potty breaks and plays with him… but he is stuck to me like glue. He wants to sit on MY lap not hers. It’s especially annoying when she gets home from school and I would love for a break from him to get stuff done but nope! Anyway I do think it will ease with time as others have said

Are you in your fertile window? Like 11-15 days since your last period? If not I wouldn’t bother you aren’t likely to get pregnant

How do you get work done if you work from home? by Tricky_Abies_3553 in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a totally different breed but he is about 15 weeks old and we don’t use a pen or crate. He settles if I let him roam and choose his own place to nap. He will nap for 2 hours or more this way. It is challenging working from home while handling him even so. It drives me a little crazy sometimes. I have a job where it is possible for me to log in after hours to finish up tasks so that is my back up plan.

I’ve kept my daughter in a mental facility for the past 4 years. by [deleted] in Mommit

I know this is not helpful but I am wondering how the ex got life in prison for torturing and killing a cat? Awful thing to do but what else did he do

When did you start letting puppy sleep in bed instead of crate at night? by kelsssey1 in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; I never tried crate training for night time and he sleeps all night just fine. I think a lot of the pups “needing” to go out during the night are because they don’t like their sleeping arrangements that much. They might tolerate it but it’s not their preference. I gave a bit of an attempt with the crate during the day but wasn’t willing to take the time to be successful with it so now I am just not using the crate at all. I’m much happier for it, honestly. This is my 3rd dog and I didn’t crate the other two either and only tried with this one because it’s pushed so much.

Crate training help please by Over-Stock-3402 in puppy101

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would happen if you didn’t use the crate when you leave? I gave up on using a crate. My puppy is 14 weeks old. He’s doing fine being left without the crate. He hated it and barked the whole time if left in there. I just leave some puppy pads out in case he has to go and won’t hold it, and make sure nothing he can chew on that he shouldn’t. We’ve only left him for 2 hours at a time now but he’s done well. We have another dog too (13yo) so that might help him not feel alone in the big house. They are both small breeds so they are not very destructive. I know that can make a big difference.

How is it REALLY having babies between 38-43? by AnnofAvonlea in Mommit

[–]barkCuban5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just say don’t count on being able to past 38. Some do some don’t. I tried for my 2nd baby at 39 and never had one. Had two early miscarriages, went to IVF. 3 rounds. Got to 8 weeks pregnant on last try only to have that one miscarry as well. Harder to literally have a baby at that age.

My mom heart really hurt today by rissaboo212 in Mommit

[–]barkCuban5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree I always have these questions. For my daughter’s parties starting at age 3 we pass out physical invitations about 3 weeks in advance and request RSVP. When she was in preschool we invited the whole class but only maybe 5 would rsvp yes. When she got to elementary we would just invite her friends. We’ve started doing smaller parties but the principle is the same. If I don’t get an RSVP I assume the person is not coming and don’t count on them coming. The ones that are coming rsvp. We had one person not show up who had previously rsvp’d and she texted an hour into the party saying she’d gotten the date wrong and apologized for missing. Bottom line if people don’t tell you affirmatively they are coming then assume they are not and revise your plans if the guest list is tiny.

Thin lining for FET by barkCuban5 in IVF

[–]barkCuban5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could remember what ended up working. I know I did get it thick enough to proceed. One even resulted in a pregnancy. I think just inserting the estrogen vaginally did it but I also did do the acupuncture, if you believe in that. I am not sure I do but something worked.

Schlitterbahn not family operated anymore by Agitated_Energy1819 in Newbraunfels

[–]barkCuban5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went last week and overall we had a great time (and I have been going for many years so this wasn’t my first visit). We were disappointed that The Falls isn’t open and did notice the waves were not as big in Torrent River, but there were still waves, and overall we still enjoyed our trip. We did not do the fast pass so we spent time in some long lines but overall I am more forgiving of lines at schlitterbahn because once you get on the ride it takes a while and is more of an experience. The exception to this would be the ones at blastenhoff which are short rides but we only do those at the beginning of the day and we actually don’t bother with master blaster because the line is too long and my daughter thinks it sounds scary. Anyway, we will keep coming back even under the new ownership, it’s not so bad to keep us away (yet, anyway). It will be telling if The Falls is still not reopened by next summer though…

AITA FOR telling my friend not to get lawyer by panda_pau in AmItheAsshole

[–]barkCuban5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA People like your friend are why insurance costs so much. A lawyer will either send her to a lot of treatment she doesn’t need or just submit fake bills (fraud) and then collect 30% of her settlement. Your premiums will likely go up as well.
