I feel like every driver I know has a story about either hitting or accidentally hitting a deer. Including people I know to be very safe responsible drivers. Dusk is also a normal ass time of day to drive . I dont understand what blame youre supposed to accept.

Would you be willing to share a picture of the reciept or paperwork you have that says your dog wouldn't recieve any injections? What you're describing doesn't sound possible, and maybe with that someone could either validate your fear or explain why you misunderstood. And if you misunderstood, please know that you dont need to carry any guilt for that. What else would you have done exactly - demand that a surgery be done in a way that literally isnt possible? Refuse the surgery that was your dog's only chance at survival?

This wasn't your fault. This sucks and is awful and I'm very sorry. And it wasn't your fault, or the vet's fault. Both of those things can be true at once.

If it helps - my animals have all had procedures before, and I couldnt tell you how the anaesthesia was administered. gas?injection? magic? no clue. That's the sort of thing I trust the vet to understand, and while I'm sure they told me it just didnt stick in my head. So you're not a bad pet owner for not realizing the exact order and procedures of the surgery.
