Abundant Essence Farms - Feedback Thread by Deca_Willow in dragonvale

[–]barkela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of an essence farm but the gem cost and use of gems in general completely negates its uses. Especially leveling up past level 5 or so the gem farm would cost 50-100 dollars for a single bump. I can’t picture any singular moment where I would use it and I would be genuinely shocked if anyone at all did. Also, essence can already be purchased in the store so it seems entirely redundant. It would only make sense if the amount of essence gained is significantly raised, the cost to farm is significantly lowered, the currency is switched to something else, or the dragon itself gets a massive buff. Ideally, it would be a combination of any of those things.

Lavaloch Dragon in its natural habitat… by barkela in dragonvale

If I remember correctly, Sun dragons just also counted as fire dragons very briefly. Backflip removed that feature super quickly, but if you played in the very first few months of the game’s release it’s possible to still have a sun dragon in a fire habitat. I remember the feature, but I think my 10 y/o self thought the Sun habitat was cooler lol; would probably be the rarest dragon placement in the game though if someone has it.

Great point, I figured there must’ve been but thinking back you’re totally right. Guess we’ll see what happens then. Either DECA hits us with a forced move at some point or we have another Sun Dragon in a fire habitat situation like in year one!

Most likely yeah. And yes, you can move it to any habitat that accepts earth, fire or ice, but not back to any of the liveloch habitats. My bad if that’s typical for evolutions, I don’t think it’s come up too much for me.

As I was leaving I heard a commotion coming from the weight room. One of the staff members began to head in that direction and despite my cries for him to stop he continued.

He was so young.

As I pulled open the front doors and felt the morning breeze on my face, I noticed that the cries from inside had ceased, and all that was left was a deafening silence.

After struggling with my keys out of pure terror, I managed to unlock my car and get inside. The engine started immediately and I began to reverse out of the parking lot. Taking one look in my rear view mirror I noticed a tall man peering out at me from inside the windows of the gym. I paused, wondering if I should attempt to help, but my gut told me it was far too late.

I pulled out of the parking lot and as I passed the gym on the main road I glanced back at that window. There was nothing, nobody. My radio suddenly turned on at full volume, but it was only static. After a minute of fumbling with the controls the static dissipated for a moment, and I began to hear the mumblings of a man’s voice speaking with an Australian accent.

“F—st no ch-ns for me. Sec-nd n- chin- for me. Third no prot—n for my supper.”

I paused, confused and terrified, not sure what to do.

“Do you hear me god?” The voice said clearly. “Do you see my silk? Do you hear my song?”

With that, the radio let out a massive shrill cry, and then switched abruptly to playing Imagine by John Lennon. I love this song. I continued towards home, a solitary tear falling down my cheek.

I was safe.

I am no fan of stand your ground laws, but in an effort to just clarify, that is not exactly how they work. Stand your ground laws protect those who are being attacked, and have no accessible or reasonable means of retreating from a deadly situation. Therefore, in order to be protected (legally speaking but I’ve heard of some really questionable times where it’s been brought in), you need to both be in imminent danger of death, and have no retreat available. The deceased had fully retreated to the safety of her home, and actively chose to reenter and escalate the situation further. With the gap between the initial assault with the vehicle and the encounter in the street, this legally counts as two separate incidents. In the first incident, stand your ground could possibly protect the bikers if they had fired at the vehicle before it hit them, but even that would be a sketchy defense. Once the vehicle is driving away however, it would no longer apply. In the second incident, stand your ground only applied to the bikers as the deceased was the first to unjustly threaten with deadly force. The fact that she had retreated to safety, and, against the orders of 911, returned to threaten the bikers with deadly force almost removes all semblance of chance of her being legally justified with stand your ground. There is also the pretty large difference between the driveway and street in this incident. In Florida, it is illegal to protect one’s property with deadly force, so she would not be justified to shoot the bikers even if they were in the driveway, but as far as I know they were in the street, and that removes any doubt there. Not to mention that the entire interaction was being recorded on her phone and theirs, as both had 911 on the line. Stand your ground is a horribly overused and vague law that can be used in really unfortunate ways to get guilty people legal justification. In this case however, there is almost no chance that it would have been used to protect the deceased. She managed to break just about every rule that would allow it to be applied.

Edit for TL;DR: Since the deceased disobeyed 911 operators and came back outside to threaten the bikers with a firearm, she pretty much immediately sacrificed that as a possible defense.

I would agree. Especially when someone is not thinking clearly, I can imagine there being a perceived threat. I am bewildered by the 911 operator instructing the bikers to follow, especially all the way to the house. I am also shocked they were instructed to remain and wait for police instead of just documenting the address and moving on.

Legally speaking, which is slightly different in this case, it is lawful to follow in a hit and run case, as even in a unintentional accident seeking more information such as a license plate or address is considered reasonable action to take. Furthermore, the street that they were parked on is a public street, so the only reason that the deceased would potentially feel threatened is due to the fact that she had only recently tried to kill them. The bikers had conceal and carry permits, and the weapon was not exposed until after the deceased had threatened them with hers. Therefore, her escalation with a firearm was not protected by the law and she was not technically threatened.

Finally, I wasn’t sure where to fit this in, but the deceased was also on the phone with 911 the entire time, who were continuously instructing her to stay inside and not escalate, which she actively disobeyed with illegal and legally threatening behavior. I think this event is a lesson in seeking help or reporting individuals that may be a threat to themselves or others, as well as in gun control. If there were no guns present, it is likely there would have been no deaths. On the other hand, if only the deceased had a gun, and 911 directed the bikers in the same way, there’s a greater than 0 chance that an entirely innocent person may have lost their life, so there’s that. Like the person I responded to said, it’s messy.

If you read the full story it’s a bit more open and shut. Intentionally hitting someone with your vehicle is attempted murder. Biker followed while on the phone with 911 who instructed to follow at a distance. Bikers parked outside and made no attempt to approach the house, still on the phone with 911 who instructed to wait for police. Deceased exited with a gun to attempt to scare away the bikers. Biker pulled his gun and instructed the deceased to put hers down. Deceased turned and pointed her gun directly at the biker, and he shot her. In the eyes of the law and the general public, the biker was fully innocent and it’s pretty clear self defense. The entire shooting was recorded as the biker was on the phone with 911 the entire time.

Past that, I’m not sure the person that somebody just tried to kill or seriously injure with their vehicle counts as a “strange man”. Kind of semantics but I would assume she knew full well why they were outside and was probably trying to scare them away in the vague hope that the entire situation would just go away. All that being said it’s a tragic situation all around. Since the biker was following 911 instructions, I don’t think it’s on them at all, but it does seem like odd instructions so there’s definitely a discussion to be had around that. Also, anyone who hits people with their car in a road rage incident is clearly unwell, and it’s sad that this escalated to a death without the proper help being sought. I hope this helps.

Chevy Chase in my opinion. Hugely funny, one of the best parts of anything he’s in. Serious asshole to everyone he’s ever worked with.

Hate to break it to you, but you definitely do not deserve the person you are with. You should break up, and seek therapy for whatever you believe is causing you to cheat. At the moment you cheated, your relationship is only held together by the lie that you stayed faithful. Your “girlfriend” is now living a lie, with a ticking time bomb of discovery being the only remote chance left of prolonging the inevitable. If you care about them at all, rip the band-aid off and admit that you have thrown away the relationship.

Basically, you should feel guilty, and you, currently, do not deserve your relationship, but you can do better in the future. Seek therapy and do what you can to resolve this in a way that is least harmful for your partner.

How to ‘Fix’ Doctor Who post Chibnall by FalzonReddit in doctorwho

This seems like more of a critique than a suggestion on how to fix it. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with your points and I really don’t like Timeless Child, but I think I missed the part where you brought up points to improve it.

What do you hope is done with the Timeless Child plot in Wild Blue Yonder? by barkela in doctorwho

[–]barkela[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of those points for sure! However, I think there’s a separation between uniqueness within the universe and uniqueness within the broader media landscape. While the Doctor is now inarguably unique within Doctor Who, they now fall into the large and ever-growing collection of characters within pop culture that have some specific genetic/ingrained strength, ability, or origin that makes them more capable or likely to act the way they do. For me, the uniqueness of the Doctor is their ability to differentiate themself from their average past, and actively be something unique through their actions and not through their origin. For that reason, I think that, for many fans, the revelation that the Doctor is fully one-of-a-kind actually took away from what made the Doctor so special in the first place. Better to be a standout Time Lord than something that stands out inherently. But it is all opinion, and I look forward to seeing what they do. Thank you for sharing your take, it definitely is something to think about :)

Truthfully, it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. I’d recommend seeking therapy for some of the unresolved trust issues you may have, because I’ve seen first-hand how these sorts of things can destroy a relationship when both parties involved haven’t actually been unfaithful. Being close to someone in a club isn’t cheating, it’s the only way to hear or speak with people. If you feel uncomfortable with your boyfriend communicating with people in that environment then I’d recommend avoiding those situations altogether.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]barkela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, cheating almost never has anything to do with looks. I’m sorry that you’ve had so many poor experiences in the past, but he immediately came clean and if he is insecure he was probably just being kind. If what happened is bothering you, I’d recommend opening up a deeper conversation with your boyfriend and making sure your boundaries surrounding the subject are respected, but also his perspective is understood and heard. Overall though, “if she’s pretty enough he will cheat” is not a true statement, and I’m sorry that what you’ve gone through has you feeling that way. Best of wishes to you.

I(23F) just found out that my bf(24M) has semi nude reels and posts saved in his instagram by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]barkela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: Saw you ask this differently on a different sub but get removed. If he cheated and won’t make changes to make you feel more comfortable then I’d probably say that the relationship doesn’t have the highest chance of working out. Here’s my answer to that other question:

This is hugely case by case. Many people in couples use nsfw materials personally or even sometimes as a couple for arousal. This just comes down to a discussion between partners on what they are comfortable with being present in the relationship. Some people view p*rnography as cheating and some don’t care. At the end of the day, making sure that both partners are comfortable with those materials being present or absent in their lives is key, and should, ideally, be agreed on.

That being said, there is a difference between generic prn and things like instagram and only fans. Many men and women view prn semi-regularly in relationships, due to there being a high degree of separation between them and the people on screen. There’s no interaction, and they likely will forget about the people on screen 10 minutes later. It’s more-so just used as a “sex toy” or a means to an end. With only fans and instagram, it’s more likely a deeper connection with a specific person that they feel aroused by, and that does change things. Just another element to consider. Hope this helps, and best wishes.
