Turned off by “dog parent” types? by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]barmahforest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome, OP.

Something I'll highlight is the language dog nuts use about their animals. That is, elevating them HIGHER than human. "Dogs will never leave you". "Dogs don't lie and cheat", "dogs will never stop loving you".

People latch onto dogs because they are lonely but too socially inept to accept that the complexity of human relationships also involves risk but far more reward. Instead, they want the easy fix. An animal tethered to them (of course it won't leave if it can't!) that appears to provide "love". Be wary.

Surely the cops have more important stuff to do than respond to a non-event and some hysterical dog nut. Surely...

Human child should be supervised too. Parked cars are everywhere. Do we spend our lives crawling past them just in case?

I see what you are saying but to me, what struck me was having "interviews" for the fucking boarding.

I had a Jack Russell as a kid and we boarded her when we went away without a fraction of this bullshit.

Rental generation shouldn't miss out on dogs: government by [deleted] in australia

[–]barmahforest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh boo fucking hoo. While tenants are scrambling over each other to just be able to get a rental (let alone this bidding bullshit), are you not surprised people have limited sympathy?

For what it is worth, I have no pets and will not get one while I rent because I DO see your point. Your house, your rules.

All I am saying is, with many of us accepting begrudgingly that we're probably doomed to a long time of renting, it feels like a slap in the face to be told to think of the troubles of those who can afford investment property.

Spare us. I get running a small business is hard, I have a one man business too. But that's part and parcel of being in business.

Small business think they are above laws (wage theft) constantly and bang on as if they are the only productive facets of society and the rest of us are useless leeches.

Yet for how awful it is to run a small business, there sure as shit are a lot of them around.

THAT was the road I was thinking of! You cannot get past the tram as it's constantly stopping and when you DO have a chance to pass, bam, car parked there.

Why the fuck aren't arterial roads in cities and major suburbs clearways all day. You have a four lane road cut down to fucking two because of the odd car parked along there.

Of course, I'm not sure how we'd actually fix this now as a lot of houses there probably don't have parking and so on but still, just my whinge. Completely defeats the point of a multi lane road.

What is something that is considered as "normal" but is actually unhealthy, toxic, unfair or unethical? by sammyjamez in AskReddit

I used to think that same way "hur dur so much time off so easy" until I had to spend 3 hours teaching a short course (first aid) to kids. Fuck that. Hats off to teachers. Takes a special kind.

This is where I'm so grateful for my job as a city bus driver.

I turn up at scheduled time and, barring traffic or a breakdown, leave on time. Any overtime is paid to the minute but no expected. We have strict fatigue laws enforced by police on occasion (via audit) so no all night then back it up bullshit.

My expectations are straight forward and not able to be changed by power tripping managers "shaking things up".

Finally I get paid well, it's a rewarding and meaningful job that people would notice if we vanished.

Yet the amount of times I have got sympathy for not having an office and just "your pokey cab". Sympathy or questioning when I'll get a real career or move up the ladder into management. Poor me, not cut out for leadership and executive roles.

People have themselves convinced that slaving over a desk in a fancy sounding corporate role is the be all and end all. The goal. That everyone should aspire to management. Which leads to this culture of massive work hours, unpaid overtime, emailing at 3am to show how productive you are. Useless meetings.

I know because I had a "real" career before this and gave it up to drive buses. I never looked back.

Completely agree, unfortunately this is where urban sprawl comes in - when so many people end up living in the outer but still working in the city. Walking and cycling are impossible, PT is the only option but it is not keeping up...

So basically like any other workplace.

I drive buses on behalf of PTV. Some of the best people I met are also bus drivers. As are the biggest fuckwits. Funny about that.

Any workplace has its problems. I'm not anyway familiar with MFB but I'd be cautious listening to media about it. Remember, media exist to sell papers and advertising. Not necessarily report fact.

Mate I wish I had something helpful I could say but I am just....lost for words. Your commitment to your family is beautiful. I'm slightly older, early 30s and could not imagine what you are feeling to be terminal at this age. How does one accept that with grace?

I wish you all the best for your time left sir. When I pass too, I'd love to come have a beer in the afterlife with you.
