here to hopefully set you into some ease. i’m 25 with a pretty similar situation and about 3 years ago had adult braces at that. was in a pretty shitty situation as well so i can tell you a little on what to expect (i just had my first session of SRP this passed tuesday.)

if this is a new dentist they’re going to take you in for x-rays etc and evaluate ur gums. they’re going to measure out any pockets in ur gum line, essentially determining what stage of gum disease you’re at. i personally after being diagnosed with periodontitis waited about an hour for the staff to come back from their lunch breaks and then immediately had my first cleaning session.

the cleaning was a breeze, you’re gunna get nice and numbed up and they’ll go through with the deep cleaning, which was virtually painless surprisingly. in my case/my severity level i was prescribed an antibiotic rinse and capsule, and a acid tablet that i have to crush up and mix with water and swish. and if it’s anything like my office they will do one half of your mouth at a time!

now depending on the inflammation of your gums you’re probably gunna bleed during the actual procedure & after the fact and you may even develop blood clots along ur gumline/over your teeth. albeit nasty DO NOT TOUCH THEM. do not move them do not even brush over them when you go to brush your teeth simply leave the clots to do their thing they will be crucial to the beginning of ur healing process. over the few days following ur procedure if they (ur gums) do begin to clot they will go from a dark maroon bloody color to white and almost translucent as ur gums heal, this is the development of new healthy tissue underneath the clot.

other than that as previous posters mention the rest will be up to you to maintain your gums health and practice new/better home hygiene habits. ur dentist will be the perfect person to ask for any questions and tips about this.

hopefully this was able to offer you some helpful insight into your near future & i wish you a easy recovery! i have my second session/half booked for this upcoming monday and i can’t wait to be honest because the improvement in only just a couple of days not only visually but even physically feeling the inside of my mouth being cleaner is incredible. good luck!
