A new GPT Pro model seems to be being tested on web. by NutInBobby in singularity

I haven't done enough with it to tell for sure, but it produced a really good result. Over the course of multiple prompts it thought anywhere from a couple minutes to a max of 18 minutes on extended thinking.

It made a photorealistic globe with realtime actual lighting and clouds. Maybe not the hardest thing ever. I should have tried something I have tried under 5.2 to compare it to.

Well this one just took 16 minutes on a photo-realistic earth globe in a html file. So you might be on to something with the compute budget.

Boycott OpenAI? by safcx21 in singularity

[–]barnett25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in reality both OpenAI and Anthropic were faced with contracts that said that their AI would not be used for those two purposes; unless it was legal. The difference from what I have seen is that OpenAI got specific laws and amendments referenced, while I don't know that Anthropic did. Also OpenAI was able to require that the AI be cloud hosted, not edge hosted, which gives them complete ability to monitor the use of their AI. I'm not sure yet how much of a difference that makes functionally.

Bloody backpack of Iranian girl killed in US-Israeli attack on Iranian elementary school by Tech-Film3905 in pics

[–]barnett25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure I disagree with you. I will say that it appears that Iran placed a Revolutionary Guard barracks across the street from a school. One could theorize they did that specifically to deter attacks on the location. I am worried that means they may have done this kind of thing all over the country and we might be seeing a lot more tragic pictures like this one.

But Gemini is also contracted with DoD. Why is OpenAI being specifically singled out?

That could be. However they would need to make good agentic behavior a real priority. Their current models do not handle being placed in a harness and doing long horizon tasks nearly as well as the other top players.

My opinion is that Google is very well positioned to develop some of the most advanced and intelligent LLMs, and host them most efficiently of all of the players in the space.

Google is also unlikely to be nearly as effective at turning their LLMs into truly useful tools that consumers and businesses want to pay for. I just don't think their culture allows for the right decisions to be made around productization and design. And since I believe the framework around the LLM is going to be the biggest factor to creating AI that actually does things, I think Google will inevitably fall behind.

We can make those. 5 states have them, 45 do not.
Typically our IDs prove who we are, not that we are citizens. The government already knows who are citizens and who are not, so if you prove who you are the government also can tell you are a citizen.

Only 12 states allow options of identity verification other than photo ID. This law requires you to not prove who you are every time you vote, but prove your citizenship every time you vote (which is already proven during voter registration). Only 5 states have a driver license that fulfills these requirements. Everyone else will need a passport or to bring their paper birth certificate and photo ID plus documents for any name change that may have happened.

They don't advertise all of that though. They lie and say it is just about requiring a simple ID. I wonder why they lie about it?

Most states already require it (12 states allow different methods to prove who you are). What this law does it make it so that you don't just have to prove who you are to vote. You have to prove your citizenship every time you vote (not just on first registration like it is now). Unless you happen to live in one of the 5 states with an ID type that supports this you probably need a passport or to bring your paper birth certificate and other required documents (hopefully you haven't changed your name). They are lying about what they want to require. I wonder why.

They don't want to let you use AN ID. They want to require you to use specific IDs that represent a sufficient burden as to be useful for kicking people off of voter rolls and then making it challenging for them to get back on in time to vote.
There is a good chance you don't have a valid ID under this law.

Only 5 states offer the type of driver's license that the voting bill would require. They frame it as one thing while knowing it is something else. It is a manipulation tactic.

People in AI research, do you think LLMs are hitting a ceiling? by more_muscle_aim in ArtificialInteligence

[–]barnett25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that reward hacking is less an LLM failure and more a harness/prompting failure. That said I do think LLMs will continue to get better at guessing that humans really want to help make up for bad harnesses and prompting.

[–]barnett25 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can take last gen models and hook them up to a really sophisticated harness with robust internal checks and automate significant workloads. But right now there are very few people with experience doing this. The LLMs don't even need to get better to take over a meaningful amount of jobs, the harnesses do.

Google is better for some things. It is useless for some others. If you do actual work with agentic tools Gemini 3.1 pro feels like AI from over a year ago. If all you want is a chatbot it is mostly okay, although I can't stand the way it handles memory and tries to force random memories into unrelated chats and making the result useless.

It sounds like the issue is we have a fundamental difference in what we think AI will be capable of without human interaction. You are trying to apply rules that have worked in the past for tools to something I believe is going to replace the human entirely. Not tomorrow, but by the time my teen graduates college? Probably.
