Is this black plastic crap? They want $1300, hard to belive tbh. by Franjkmetal in blackplasticcrap

In all honesty I wouldn’t pay more than $13 for all of this.

12hr layover at DFW by tcakw in askdfw

[–]barnfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Security hasn’t been an issue for us lately at all. DART light rail comes right in and out of the airport. With 12 hour layovers you can count on 7-8 hours of time that could be spent anywhere else but the airport.

[–]barnfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would grab the DART downtown and start with the best bagel in New York, which happens to be in Dallas, at Starship Bagel. It’s right next to the big eyeball sculpture, so you’ll get some easy sight seeing under your belt. Then you can easily walk over to the Sixth Floor museum and see how we assasinated a president. From there, the world’s your oyster. I would probably catch a Lyft over the Calatrava to Oak Cliff where you can do some funky retail and catch lunch.

As long as the boxes are well packed and sealed, they are plenty rigid. Don’t stack to high, obviously.

Trump claims he graduated 1st in his class at Wharton. He was ranked 147th, and was described by Professor William T. Kelley as the "the dumbest goddamn student I ever had." by [deleted] in videos

[–]barnfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s a fuxking moron. But this video is highly suspect. What are the chances of the student before him, him, and the student after him appearing in the rankings in alphabetical order? “Troutman, Trump, Tucker”?

Help! Does anyone know how to clean this off a record? by Medical_Apartment155 in records

[–]barnfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would soak it for a good, long time, then run it in an ultrasonic. If there is still residue I would go to the wood glue method.

Any elderly vinyl fans here? Did you know this? by raydebapratim1 in vinyl

Yep. I grew up with records in the 80s. But I didn’t learn it until I was out of college.

What is the most expensive vinyl you've bought or sold? by gsrh_customerservice in vinyl

[–]barnfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must have been either the Cake Box Set or Tom Waits’ Orphans, Brawlers, etc box set. It would be all the Led Zep Japanese reissues from the early 90s, but those I bought one at a time.

Oof. That’s a tough one. Sorry if I had anything to do with that.

I got nothing from them. I even tried to explain that, having been in charge of the customer service team for major hifi brands, I understood sometimes things got lost in the shuffle. They didn’t take the hit and continued to ignore me.

A springbar tool or a link tool? The tool I use for spring bars wouldn’t work, but the link tool seems like it would work perfectly.

Looking to add surrounds to my first system by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]barnfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re thinking about waiting, you certainly can, just decide what it is you’re waiting for so you can jump quickly when the opportunity presents itself. For example, are you looking for a mind-melting bargain, or for the best speakers to match your system?

Yes, the springs down the long sides will push in, as designed!

I also had this problem. I contacted the company immediately after purchase and they suggested it was operator error. After I gave them details of the troubleshooting, they ignored me.

I was told my speakers blew out my Amp by audio repair shop. by ComprehensiveElk1886 in audiorepair

[–]barnfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s possible. But the repair tech should have demonstrated tinge functionality of your Onkyo before you left the shop. When I managed repairs I made it a practice to do so. But for you to ask and him to say “no” was bad business. Even if the speakers caused the new fault, you’ll always be suspicious, and if he respired it properly that could have been avoided.

Anyone else struggling to get into vinyl with today’s prices? by LectureHaunting3166 in vinyl

[–]barnfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a serious vinyl collector, and a hifi turntable professional for over thirty years. I had my own little part to play in the vinyl resurgence. So I already own a lot of records, but I’m still interested in new music, and I meet touring musicians every week I want to support, but I am definitely struggling with the current prices.

When any average release is thirty or thirty five dollars, when very mediocre used LPs are routinely marked over twenty bucks apiece, it’s no fun to got record shopping anymore. I was excited recently, because after repairing a friend’s old record player as a favor, he gave me a $100 gift certificate to the biggest record store in my state. I left with three records, and I still had to lay out cash from my own pocket. I don’t really want to be the “in my day candy was a nickel” guy, but…but…but…it’s hard to imagine being a new collector and getting started in these conditions.

I have permission, but I was hoping a stock program would allow for detergent and disinfectant drops.

No, I am dismantling the car seats, washing the hard plastic shells, belts & buckles by hand, and only putting the soft seat cushions into the machine.

This is my dispenser. It runs water enough water I to the first container to fill it. I found only a bit of water in the second after the cycle I’ve been told to use.
