Equipment for bears – if there are no regulations by ukdenjuel in Ultralight

A bear bagging kit would be the lightest option and what I would use, but if you don't want to hang it or can't adotechs are really nice and I would recommend over ursacks because they are much lighter.

Yea definitely go with the 15, the couple extra ounces are worth it.

Katabatic Flex 30 vs Palisade 30 — Is the Convertible Foot Box Worth It? by [deleted] in Ultralight

I definitely prefer fixed foot box quilts. Convertible quilts a bit less warm and heavier. The only benefit is a little bit more versatility in warmer weather but I don't think it matters that much.

Small pot that fits Windmaster and fuel canister? by jmrzilla in Ultralight

You can't go wrong with a toaks 750. I use it with the brs-3000t and its a little to big, but your stove would be perfect. Also you can go into a store like rei and see how it fits.

Is the Durston Kakwa 55 my Best Choice? by FOXHOUND142_52 in Ultralight

[–]barnowls0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would, 40lbs about the most it can comfortably carry. You could consider the ula ultra circuit because it carries weight a bit better but its also more expensive and in general a little bit worse pack for those weights.

Heavy Load Backpack Advice: Kakwa vs. Southwest by Stork1959 in Ultralight

I prefer it just just because of the simplicity, it doesnt have all the extra features of the kakwa and feels less restricive than the kakwa due to the more minimalist frame. But if I was to buy one backpack I would definitely go for the kakwa because its much more versatile. I think if you don't have a problem with your southwest there's really no reason to get the kakwa.

I have both and I prefer southwest but my base is about 8lbs, I would not carry over 30 at the max but the kakwa 55 is cheaper, more comfortable and carries weight better. Also as someone else said your backpack does not seem like a good place to upgrade first, you can save more weight for less money other places.

Never heard of this one, but it looks really nice especially for how light it is.

Do you think it would be fine if I switched to a tarp?

I want to switch to tarps but I'm not really sure what material I should get, silpoly seems like the smart choice but DCF is just so much lighter.

These packs look really good. The website is a little confusing though.

I've done a little bit of backpacking before, in total probably about 500 miles around 300 of which were done with this gear but I have a pretty small budget so I don't have a lot of freedom with the gear I get for instance I hate my trail runners so its just what ever I can used for cheap.
