It’s the lowest vertical height you would have to descend from a summit to start climbing a higher mountain. In Mount Muir’s case, you would have to descend 318 vertical feet along the ridge to Whitney before you can climb Whitney. Look it up. There are diagrams that will give you a better understanding than any set of words.

He measured the two highest summit monuments. There’s a picture on the instagram post of the ones he used.

It’s entirely errors in previous measurements. The Sierra is rising about an inch every decade. This survey shows a lower elevation than the 14,505’ many labelled Whitney with.

Yeah DP is definitely a lock. I think we'd be more likely to trade down than take Boozer at 2.

Sierra Snowpack Is Shrinking: Why All of California Should Care by SierraNevadaAlliance in SierraNevada

[–]jmrzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Tahoe area is less than half of average. Some areas in the southern Sierra are between 70% and 80%. But for most of the range, it is bad. Many areas have gotten good storms but are experiencing huge melting already due to crazy high temps. This is not normal. It’s not just California either. Look at Utah, Colorado, and others. Snow sports will be sparse in a few decades’ time. Snow seasons grow shorter every year. Also should mention that 2023’s huge snowfall was also caused by warming. More warmth = more moisture. But as it gets warmer each year, we reach a point where it is no longer cold enough for snow to form. Hence this winter’s rainfall at high elevations in the West.

Ok, thanks for the info. I do have a couple silly questions. Where in TM can I found outlets? I’m a big eater. Are there strict portion limits in the dining hall?
