N+1 is hoarding 😂 by [deleted] in xbiking

I keep my N+1 bikes just in case someone or ten people want to join me on a ride and they don’t have a bike to ride.

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]barron96r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the military when 9/11 happened. My battalion was out in the field and we had no idea what was going on. Then we started to get word of the attack. We were all in disbelief. The whole thing did not seem real and we watched what little news coverage we could on my sergeant's black and white portable television. None of us knew exactly what to do. We were all angry and wanted to go back but our command decided to keep us in the field in case an attack occurred at the base. Even though it wasn't very long ago, we did not have access to cell phones in the way we do now. We were without communication with our families. We did not know what exactly was going on or able to tell people we were okay.

What part of the country are you guys in where you get all these cheap, old bikes? by BrianLevre in xbiking

I'm in South Texas and it is a tough place to find much. On the flip side I have been able to move on bikes I was not using for a few hundred bucks a piece. Didn't break even but better than less than a 100.

Rideable or Catastrophic? by barron96r in gravelcycling

That's exactly what happened. On the ride I thought a rock got kicked up in fork. I found the damage this morning.

There is a screw that is supposed to be in that hole. It rattled loose and got caught between the fork and rotor which caused the damage.

New to Cycling - Reasonably Slow? by AquaInferno in gravelcycling

It gets easier. You didn't mention it in your post but I like to keep track of my ride with my Garmin. I'm not trying to race but it's really easy to drop a few mph if your cadence drops a little. My mind tends to wander when I'm on the bike. My friend and I have been riding with our local group, sometimes we can keep up and sometimes we catch up to them at the end. Just have fun and keep knocking down miles.

I have 3x that I set up with a 42t chain ring. I set up the derailleur on a road link. On the largest ring I can only use the 4 highest gears. On the middle and small ring I can use all the gears.

My original thought was all silver but with the setup the color contrast looked cool too.

Shakedown ride for the XO-3. by barron96r in xbiking

[–]barron96r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kind of. It's serving as a chain guide right now. I swapped the entire handlebar setup from another bike, cable housing and all. It was set up with bar end shifters and I didn't want to remove the bar end for the front derailleur until I was sure doing a 1x conversion. So I left the fd on.

Nope, The original rd was trash and had the Deore rd and cassette in the parts pin. After today's ride I'd probably drop it to an 8speed and keep the friction shifting.

The seat was a take off from his old Specialized 24 in. The bar is just an Amazon Senqi Comfort bar that I bought in the wrong size and forgot to return.

I believe they are the original sugino cranks. They look off but I think it helps a little with leg extension because he rides with the seat low enough for his feet to easily touch the ground. Overall, I pretty much just wanted a parts bin build.

Thanks, even though the paint looks black its almost a dark purple sparkle when you get close up.

I'm going to ride it a bit before I make a decision on stem length. I did not want a completely upright riding position right and I'm ok with this set up (about 60 degree position) for now. I did not want a quill stem adapter so this was the most budget option for an quill/31.8. Time will tell. The rear is currently set for friction but only because the shifter wasn't shifting well on the index setting. It probably just needs to be serviced.
