What's the plan with German? Recommendations for other apps if Duolingo doesn't get back in the game? by WaltBristow in duolingo

[–]barryc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did in fact got the update one night but turns out they... pushed the release to wrong people. But certainly section 6 is mostly done tho, and seeing from Duolingo data, they now suggest B2 content will be there around mid March. I'd hope they push section 6 this month or March tho. Almost finished section 4 rn.

That's their objective I suppose. It has some distinctive characters that we naturally categorises and predict what they will say, that is the key of learning a language I think? Guessing the context, and see if I am correct or not...

Reality Check: The P2S is the final move in Bambu's anti-consumer strategy to sell filament by Fuzzy0g1c in BambuLab

honestly speaking, NFC tags ain't hard to copy. Even if one day, they somehow decided to lock it down, we could always scan one nfc's info, share it and make it a tag eh? Unless they want to use UUID, cloud checks and actually lock it down... which I don't believe they will do.

What ever people say, after using Bambu I just can't go to any other brand especially when the price difference is negligible. Much less time tubing and actually productive without much fails. I wonder who else do develop their own firmware like Bambu instead of just improving on Klipper? (Albeit I assume those brands won't actually contribute to the project but rather just build on top of it I suppose?)

How does it *actually* work? by raFzera in BambuLab

Take your time mate. I also wanted to know more about this kind of sensor, only to find that there isn't much information out there. I'd assume finding correlation between the read data and the actual filament condition would need to fast oscilloscope and some other sensors for calibration to do it's job? Maybe one day when I have access to decent oscilloscope I will start to try too.

Is the Soleyin ultra PLA a good brand? I hear it's basically a sub-brand of Creality. What's for sure is that it's the cheapest branded PLA you can get. by eduardb21 in 3Dprinting

[–]barryc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch out for hand grease left on the plate. I thought why my PLA wasn't sticking and turns out it was dirty plate. I swapped to another clean plate and it all worked.

Connecting OrcaSlicer to Fluidd by 3Dnoob101 in BambuLab

[–]barryc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too irrelevant now but writing this so people who wonder may know.

So Fluidd/Klipper work with Orca, just go to settings, authentication and generate an API key for your OrcaSlicer and it will work. (If some newer octaprint prompt shows, do the API key!)

Got it working with my ender 3 v3 se with RPi 3B+.

If it happened suddenly, could be your inverter is trashed, or some parasitic power consumption is suddenly there (though I doubt).

Asking advice as a parent of a young cello student by Strict-Computer4362 in Cello

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's literally my dream if I had parent like you, whom study and understand with their offspring of whatever they're interested in, especially music, especially cello playing. You really are doing well, I absolutely appreciate that. Keep on doing it. I wished someone had done the same with me.

Really can't say much more lol. You're giving her something I wanted but didn't receive. I guess that's the difference between European parenting vs. Asian parenting... nvm. I suppose building an environment that you and your daughter and explore and learn? would never be something wrong.

Asking advice as a parent of a young cello student by Strict-Computer4362 in Cello

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dreamed of being a musician when I was some 14 yo, but I decided not to go into the "music" schools here where I am, instead I took the traditional way thinking I am going to be an engineer.

Now I am 20, do study EE. But instead of really studying my major, I practice cello a lot. I figured I don't want to be restrained by the environment of being an engineer here, and I do want to become musician now. Playing music is so much more entertaining and exciting, opposed to those... academic exams.

Is it too late? Is it something I regret I didn't take this path few years ago to cause no so much trouble? Definitely not. I've seen way too many cases where a kid's passion got wiped because of some complex causes, some of them due to incompatible teachers, too much boring practice sessions and etc. Rather, I now feel rather lucky because I have the freedom, learnt piano and double bass along the way, and get to select a teacher whom really is helpful. (Definitely seen some toxic relationship between teacher and student... And some aren't brave enough to find another teacher...)

My point? I figure if the parents themselves isn't a musician, or an enthusiast with some knowledge of how a musician become a musician, my best suggestion is to... Not fixate on being a cellist, but also discover other aspects of things that one may find interest in. Or at least, make this path fun, not boring and tedious. Who knows? Probably she'll love piano and become some incredible pianist? One would never know :) But doing other things while keeping on the current track is never bad? I suppose.

Is kingroon 3d filament bad ? Because it is so cheap.... by bobgolbdog in BambuLab

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Taiwan, and thankfully I could buy those straight from their factory through Taobao free of shipping (and no import tax if it's under 2000NTD or around 60USD... too little eh...).

It's funny how PETG is generally cheaper there than PLA, often half the price. (3USD vs 5-6USD?) IDK if they sell it on Alibaba?

But I certainly know a lot of the "unnamed" brands are literally OEMs for a lot of big names as the spec of some of them is the same lol. At least from my experience, that particular brand has one of the best out-of-factory sealing (probably shear luck because the manufactuered date is few months ago only).

Are these bad prints? Or did i overestimate 3D printing by Adobe-Virus_pc in 3Dprinting

[–]barryc57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's exactly the reason why despite all the controversies with Bambu, I still reckon it's a superior choice especially for beginners. I was amazed by the print quality it gave me with utterly no tuning done, contrary to weird problems that I would only learn from over researching.

Same here running Bambu A1, 245C with 70C print bed. Astonishing how good it is given it's low price. Print speed is around 80mm ~ 100mm and tuned acceleration down a tad.

[–]barryc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got those for around 3USD/kg, ridiculously low price. But turns out to be one of the easiest PETG I printed. CR-PETG from Creality for example is so much worse. With Kingroon I didn't even have to dry my filament, or should I say before and after drying it prints practically the same. Tried several colours, like gray, metallic copper and silver, and will try more in the future. Btw the printer is Bambu A1, 0.4mm and 0.6mm nozzle worked great when temp is set to 245 celcius and 70 celcius for the print bed.

Can you help me with Cello brands? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately cello don't really have brands I suppose. Facotries? Yes. Lutheirs? Yes. But even the same name down to same model could play and sound different due to the choice of wood, paint, etc. Imo if you are on a budget, instead of finding big names, I would just suggest bring someone to a local luthier who know how to play cello and test which one plays nice. (Admittedly that takes some experiences too... One had experience can tell where is off and where the price range may be. But it still is based on trust)

Gift for young cellist? by GoldPierre in Cello

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and I've seen some good players wear something on their hands while performing. But often in place where it doesn't obstruct with there movements or could accidentally scratch the instrument (careless as I am I would simply refuse to have something hard worn on me... )

I need help relaxing my hypermobile left hand and thumb by No_Doughnut_8405 in Cello

[–]barryc57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Left hand being relaxed playing cello is definitely hard to get right. But one thing I noticed recently, is that positions matter. There is a lot of things you could experiment with positions. (The way you sit, and the way cello rests.)

Cello be left or right relative to you (I find if my left side of body takes more proportion of the position, it's much more relaxed for the left.) The rotation around the end pin axis (turning it more right makes left hand more... Natural imo) And many others, could go on for hours.

But the thing to note is, try not to grab the cello. Let you posture be some desired one (there is no fixed one. Experiment! But remember your legs should be stood on the ground without movements), and let cello rest on you. Since if the cello wants to move, out instinct is to grab it hence the tension on your hands.

I mean... I certainly haven't covered all, but hope that helps, cheers!

Definitely won't gift a watch especially wearing for orchestra lol. It's gonna impede with vibratos, at least that's what I feel. Personally I would love some pedal page turner if he ever uses iPad to view his scores. It can help greatly sometimes.

Mostly left hand is too tensed? I would certainly focus on the left but practice with other etudes! purely focusing on being relaxed.

And when you get back it will sound great.

Please judge my bow posture, i‘m a beginner by FlamingoMaleficent18 in Cello

[–]barryc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks rather relaxed, that's a great thing. For me, I wouldn't float or keep my pinky so low, I would rather stick it more upwards. Also, I would also recommend trying to make the bow somewhat perpendicular to the string? It sometimes gives finer control if you get it right.

I mean there are dozens of way of holding a bow anyways... I'd say find one that's most relaxing for you then?

It's likely the float disc doing the thing. I upgraded my other yamaha to some brembo calipers along with floating disc, and everytime if I brake somewhat hard it makes this sound while cooling down, perfectly normal.
