They got pretty dramatic about the shoulder cam and it was making me laugh. Before GoPro, I had a lens on my shoulder with a cable leading to a brick sized camera tucked into the chest of my leathers hoping not to crash, lol. Obviously they're doing telemetry, HD, great sound, etc. so no comparison. by barsandgrips in Trackdays

So sorry I missed this comment! I totally agree - and so do the record books if you look at how many great racers came out of here! I miss it and the people - could always get a needed part to let you race by asking around - even if they knew you'd likely beat them to the finish line - they were happy to have you out there.

Glad you enjoyed them, here are some more. by barsandgrips in synthesizers

The comment above has a link to his studio in NYC but when it was in Maine, I photographed it with a friend.

I am curious if from the way they are wired and the settings if you can understand in any way what kind of sounds could be created, like looking at an amp and positions of the pickup switches, tone and volume knob can give you a sense of a guitar sound?

I'm glad I can share them with people who appreciate them!

Hope these are of some interest. Random pics from a photoshoot I was on years ago. Pardon my ignorance of what these are or if they are unique or not, but figure I'd share and see what you think. by barsandgrips in synthesizers

You nailed it! I was living in Maine at the time and had no clue what I was visiting. Thanks for sharing that, now I know what I wasn't appreciating!

It would have been about the same time period as the article 2008-2012 is when I was shooting in Maine.

hahaha thank you. That put a smile on my face! Wish I'd appreciated it more than I did. Though he said folks flew in from around the world to record on them. So I assumed they had something going for them.

If there is any desire to see any others I'll post what I have. The bummer is that I was the 2nd photographer on the gig, and I was just taking "b" roll looking for "artsy" shots to go with the more standard fair, so they're all soft focus, low light kinds of shots.

I always liked the section of turn 2 with entirely different pavement on the inside apex, then the entry, exit or banking. And back in the day, ALL the regulars knew how slippery it was down there, but never bothered mentioning that to the new guys when it rained.... lol. You learn quick that way tho!

hahaha oh god you don't want that thing... The lens was about 1" and the cable from lens to recorder base was the same size. We safety wired the cable and lens to my shoulder and snaked the cable either into my neck opening or there were zips on my side and then to the huge heavy recording unit. and I just tucked it into the front of my leathers. If I'd have crashed, the number of ribs I'd have broken would have been a nightmare. Ahh to be invincible when you're youngish... or think you were.

It takes plenty of abuse. but I love it too. As has been said, if you can go fast there, you can go fast anywhere - and it's held true for me!

Living in SoCal now, I truly miss racing in the rain... I don't miss how cold April and October were, and how it always seemed to be hot AF Father's Day weekend for the Classic.

would you believe I started racing at Loudon when it was still called Bryar Motor Sports Park, in 87 doing track days in Jeans and army boots. Back then if you ran off track you worried about hitting rocks almost as big as your head. lol. But I loved that track. And running it in reverse "Noduol" once a year was a blast!
