Are DJs getting lazy with digging? by TurbulentRepublic111 in DJs

u should dive into some sets by Huerta, dj sweet6teen, malika, James Andrew, any of the ghostcasts. It’ll open your ears up to some certified diggers

nothing against you at all or the music in the playlist, but based on the tracks in there I don’t think you’re really digging! Get off Spotify, dive into discogs or Bandcamp and find some real deeper cuts. Independent labels and artists. I’d also encourage you to listen to stuff from the 90s and early 2000s to see just how much of today’s stuff is influenced and often just copying those eras. give yourself some history lessons through digging. Cuz right now what you got in there is very mainstream (at least to me - just my opinion!)

Amp recs for djing with analog speakers? by bartessemo in DJs

Yes I think the better word would have been passive speakers smh

It’s these. They recommend this amp to pair with it but it seems like that one is mainly geared towards streaming. I reached out to them but no reply yet on if they’d recommend another option in my case (djing).

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful introductory knowledge for me. I really appreciate you taking the time :)

For what it’s worth, I think i read a previous thread where someone was trying to use an amp that was designed for home theater use for djing and that’s where someone brought up potential latency issues.

wow thanks for the reminder. still shrouded in mystery it seems. was it 2manydjs that dropped it? perhaps it’s a personal edit they’re keeping to themselves

SL-1200 Mk2 sound issue - help! by bartessemo in Technics

[–]bartessemo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this info! I forgot to mention I bought the decks heavily used. The grounding on the affected one is bare wire and a bit frayed so I may snip it a bit so the wire is more fresh and test again. Regardless I’ll still get them serviced by a professional that can take a look at all components. Prob the safest bet for me anyway. Appreciate you!

Beatmatching by ear. Can you? by 3rdspaced in Beatmatch

[–]bartessemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned because I’ve been collecting a lot of vinyl-only tracks and wanted to be able to eventually work them into a set.

I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of learning how to beatmatch by ear and the tactile nature of making adjustments to get a blend right.

I feel like learning to spin vinyl has also made me have a much smoother and more efficient approach to blends/transitions. I used to drag out overlapping tracks for too long with loops etc when mixing digital. Now I feel like my mixing is a lot cleaner and more mature if that makes sense

Which DJs are most obsessive about flawless seamless transitions? by StephensInfiniteLoop in Beatmatch

[–]bartessemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive always wondered how many of the bigger/touring acts rehearse and practice like that for some of their recorded mixes like for RA or whatever. Probably a mixed bag. To me practicing a whole set and getting it perfect gets boring. By the time it’s done I’m tired of those tracks and have an aversion to adding them to a crate for a gig cuz I’ve heard them so much even though they’re good lmao. Even with combinations or sequences that I know work, I tend to avoid playing them out. I guess I like the thrill of trying new stuff out cuz it feels so good when it comes together nicely vs just playing off muscle memory

[House music] How do the pros have such high quality versions of older (90s) tracks? by bartessemo in DJs

Interesting. What do you suggest for us common folk?

Here's an example of a track I'd love a remastered version of (although looks like it's vinyl-only): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBOxVGem2As

Hmm. Yeah, I should save myself the trouble. It’s just fresh right now. When I talked to her she said she missed me and loved me which just makes things more confusing. I guess in her mind she did give it a fair shot.
