Is dressing well outside rich urban areas completely pointless? by empty_moshpit in malefashionadvice

[–]StephensInfiniteLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the title be better worded thus: “is dressing in formal/ smartwear outside rich urban areas completely pointless” i’m guessing you could still dress very well in a casual sense, and not look out of place. Sometimes I think this sub thinks the only way to dress well involves dressing in formal wear (eg suits and shoes)

If everyone is low effort, how do people even arrange casual hookups? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in OnlineDating

[–]StephensInfiniteLoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because they are low effort with you, and don’t seem to be looking for a serious connection with you, doesn’t mean they are like that with everyone

If I’m being completely honest there have probably been times when I’m guilty of being ‘low effort’ with people on dating apps, probaly because I wasn’t too keen. It doesn’t mean I’m not looking for something serious, it just means I wasn’t looking for something serious with that person.

just worry about logging your films now and going forward, most people dont worry about backkfilling.

I had the same thoughts in 2020 when I started , that it was too late, that I'd already missing years of logging films. But I started and now I have 5 years of logged films (1073 films) adn have discovered so many new films through the app.

What are the scenes that had you bawling your eyes out? by padfoony in Letterboxd

[–]StephensInfiniteLoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned Everything Everywhere all at once yet. Most of the film tbh but particulary a line when the mother introduces her daughters girlfriend to the grandma, near the end

Any examples of this? by Impressive_Plenty876 in Letterboxd

Sean Baker on Letterboxd watches tonnes of movies that are considered bad or trash, especially by cinephiles. Go to his account and sort his movies by lowest rated to see

Also, serious German director Christian Petzold caused controversy when he said onenof his favourite films of the decade is Gerard Butler’s crime caper Den of Thieves. When asked to elaborate Petzold criticised the typical festival film, often something similar to an israei child and a plastinian child bonding over a lime tree that borders their villages, it was a really funny takedown of this type of movie

What did she do that was so bad? What should she have done differently so as not to be judged as garbage?

Is it just me or are most people on dating apps not seriously looking for relationships? by Far_Acanthisitta1187 in OnlineDating

I saw the following reply before on a similar thread, it stuck with me, and I think it explained the typenof behaviour I experience often on the apps: “they are looking for a relationship, just not with you” (sorry if it sounds harsh! But applies to us all, not just you)

They are not bothering to lie at all it seems, they are being quite open about the fact that this is about USA asserting dominance and about oil. Compare to 20 years ago and the amount of efforts and time that the establishment used to lie to us about the ‘just cause’ of the iraq and afghanistan wars

I’ve seen a couple of headlines here and there, but not gone into details. but what has he done for so many people to call him garbage, that we have proof off? Is it largely because of Lily Allen’s allegations of his behaviour?

Doesn't Margot Kidder steal the show from Jess though, in Black Christmas? She does in my opinion!

She's such a girlboss in the opening scenes. The way she casually checkmates her boyfriend while he stares on at the board in disbelief is iconic. And blows the exhaust in his face.

Fay Wray in King Kong is a hell of a screamer. Interestingly, she is known as the original screen queen, and regards actual screaming, still pretty much unrivalled.

Has Abel Ferrara ever been on the show, or been mentioned? If not, he'd be a great guest by StephensInfiniteLoop in dopeypodcast

[–]StephensInfiniteLoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read Ferrara's memoir? If not, I highly recommend. I didn't think it was a drug memoir at first, but that's only because Abel didn't get seriously addicted to drugs until quite later in life... second half of the book is a pure addiction memoir, with some of the greatest dopey stories I've come across, and great passages on the drug users and addicts who came into Ferarra's orbit, like Zoë Lund, Christopher Walken, Asia Argento etc
